…… so saved thousands of pounds & on holiday at holiday village turkey & the weather is appalling, I may be being precious but I’m so so sad, nothing much to do with two teenagers & it’s not meant to be any better all week, saves hard for this holiday & feeling super sad :(

Sadly, it's the wrong time of year to be holidaying in Turkey. The weather starts to change come October, and there can end up being more rain. We're at the end of October, nearly into November too, so there's definitely going to be more rain. A lot of hotels, bars, restaurants will be closed or closing up now, and excursions decreasing or stopping.

Unfortunately, it's a case of making the best of it. You can't change the weather. Next time, research the country/resort, before booking. Often you'll find last minute deals to Turkey or the Balearic Islands, this time of year, it's for a reason... End of season or out of season. Just because the holiday companies are selling holidays to these countries now, it doesn't mean, it's the right time of year to go!

Ginmonkeyagain · Today 11:08

@Cherrytree86 Who brings raincoats on holiday? People going on holiday to a destination where rain is forecast?

I always take an umbrella and little fold up mac on summer holiday - and have often used them. In Toulouse this summer - at the back end of the June heatwave we had a day when it was constant thundery showers all day.

TBH I wouldn't go anywhere in Europe in October without an umbrella and at raincoat.

Wolmando · Today 11:17

What a shame, hopefully you will find something to do. I was reading a similar thread yesterday from a poster in Rhodes so it seems pretty widespread rain over there

Emptyandsad · Today 11:22

I've just spent a week in the South of France in a campervan; rained every day, it's dark early and I had the worst cold of my life. It was so shit it was comical

FloraSpoke · Today 11:34

Currently in the Algarve where it is a very pleasant 23 degrees, blue sky and sunshine. Apparently fairly typical for this time of year (and I prefer this to baking in high 30s temperatures during the summer months). But you can always get unlucky with the weather wherever you go, sorry that’s been your experience OP. As others have suggested, maybe an excursion further afield? Or hunker down and try and enjoy some quality time indoors together.

Bunnycat101 · Today 11:39

Unfortunately late October is a bit of a gamble. In other years, you’d have potentially had wall to wall sunshine. Are you sure you won’t get a few nice days? We did corfu in May half term and had a few days of rain. I think the problem is that resorts are often only set up to deal well in sun eg outside tables, outdoor activities. I know a lot of people who have gone away for October half term thinking it would be better than being at home and taking the risk. We were away last week and had some rain

SmolBlackKitten · Today 11:55

Happened me too in the Maldives.
I went at the right time of the year for dry, calm, sunny weather but it was a bit windy and cloudy at times.
And it fuckin' rained the day I arrived there.
It absolutely didn't look its best at all for most of the time and I don't remember that holiday fondly - even though we had a handful of fine days.
I would try and get home early if I were you.

@greenleaf01 YABU.

No such thing as bad weather. Just bad clothes.

Find some suitable clothes and go have fun. Swimming, excursions etc...

It often rains in Turkey at the end of October but I bet its over 18C and warm ish??

@TwinklyAmberSloth

there is such a thing as bad weather! Let’s not be disingenuous, what about the weekends storms for example? I think most people would class that as bad weather not merely an incidence or not having nice waterproof garments

EveningSpread · Today 12:09

You’re not unreasonable to feel sad. But weather is increasingly unpredictable, and spending thousands on a resort holiday is a sure fire way to disappointment - the stakes are always so high when you’ve spent so much money, everything needs to be really really good all round to justify the price!

We just book a flight and an Airbnb in a European city / seaside town / mountains. It’s super cheap and the stakes are low. Never had a bad trip.

Had many a rainy caravan holiday in Cornwall! Back when that was cheap. It’s not anymore!

Newyearawaits · Today 12:12

I understand how you feel OP but I don't know anyone who hasn't had a negative experience on a holiday at some point.
I remember going on a summer holiday caravan holiday with the kids years ago and it poured with rain every day.
I went to Sicily about 8 years ago and the same thing happened.
Plus it is riskier in October.
Put it in perspective!

Are you deliberately trying to be horrible or are you having a bad day? Clearly this lady from her message has saved and come here on holiday, why are you trying to rub it in?

Some people on this thread just can’t miss the change to have a gleeful and pointless dig at the OP. Who is feeling sad and disappointed. I am so glad I don’t have people like that in my life.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · Today 12:21

Oh what a shame 😿
Unfortunately the weather can e very unpredictable in October. It looks like a couple more days of rain then hopefully it will clear up.

8remaining · Today 12:31

Oh, what rotten luck, OP. I hope you find something fun and/or interesting to do despite the disappointing weather.
I've had a few holidays that were similarly disappointing. Have a look in the hotel lobby or ask at reception for any information about local attractions, excursions and so on.

malefields · Today 12:45

Bad luck but I’d rather enjoy the bad weather in Turkey than bad weather in the UK.

Member968405 · Today 13:07

There was a very similar thread on here the other day - someone was on holiday in Rhodes (having decided against August) and the weather was terrible

I wonder whether travel companies are trying to nudge us all towards booking in August again, after booking habits changed…

MyballsareSandy2015 · Today 14:02

I sometime mention a miserable rainy holiday to my adult kids … they have very different memories of that holiday!

BetterWithPockets · Today 14:30

All those effectively telling the OP they’re stupid for expecting anything different, given it’s October: Turkey is recommended by several online tour operators as a reliable, even desirable, destination for October half term sun…
And, @Catza, your ‘even more baffling that they can't possibly find anything to do in bad weather’ strikes me as incredibly patronising. Not everyone wants to wrap themselves in blankets on the beach — especially if it’s raining, as OP says…

OP, as @ChateauMargaux says, this week’s been a funny old time, weather wise, across most of Europe. So sorry, and hope you find something to enjoy.

This is the problem though. Tour operators recommend Turkey for October sun but it isn't always sunny. I used to live in Turkey and we had some amazing October weather. We also had some really cold miserable weather.
It's too unpredictable.

Smokeywater · Today 15:30

It surely is quite warm - scuba diving? sailing ? quadbikes? Wouldn't some of the sellers give a discount for hiring things as it must be dead quiet for them.

We'rein Scotland at the moment and we are still biking and walking in the showers, fishing ......

HappyViewer · Today 17:25

My friend went one October half term to a Turkish water park hotel, she said the water so cold her DC turned blue and she had to buy the whole family sweatshirts as the evenings were chilly.

The thing is not everyone travels a lot or knows this. Or they may think it’s 5k in the summer and 3k in October and go then.

Well each to their own. We are having a fab time at the beach in the UK this week despite the storms and rain!!

Bluedenimdoglover · Today 20:22

It's a shame, but it is October and weather can be dodgy in the Med at this time of year.
