Would you spend your 50th at Disneyland?

Would this be weird?

I'm definitely not a Disney adult 🤣
My Dd has wanted to go for a few years, by my 50th (just over a year away) she will be 9, and it feels like time is running out to take her and for it to be magical.
As cheesy as it sounds, i'm happy to go as it makes me happy to see her happy. Of course I would rather be on a beach in Hawaii, but can't afford that and love Paris and we can see the sights and show her Paris too

It just seems a bit 😂 to spend your 50th there. The last time I was in Paris was for my 30th when we got engaged

Honestly, I’d rather spend it banging my head against a wall.

Malasana · 26/10/2026 12:05

I wouldn’t because it’s not my thing. Can you take your daughter but do something separate for your birthday as well? I’m not saying 2 holidays but it seems a shame to mark your 50th with something that’s not really for you.

Needmorelego · 26/10/2026 12:06

Take her for her 10th and do something different for you on your 50th.

OhHobnobs · 26/10/2026 12:06

Well what do you want to do that is within your budget?

You answered your own question in your opening line. "I'm definitely not a Disney adult"

EnterCaroline · 26/10/2026 12:06

If combined with a trip to Paris, yes, but I'd rather not be in Disneyland on my actual birthday.

Well the Paris part itself would be lovely
I can't really afford that and money on much else, I don't fancy a big party or any attention etc, so I can't think of much else

My initial reaction was absolutely no way. Then I thought, well possibly at DisneySea in Tokyo. But any of the other parks, nope!

God no. I hate Disneyland. Once and never again.
Do something for you.

I feel time is running out until she'll find these things too babyish

Took my mam there for her 50th, she retired that year and we went with my then young kids and we absolutely loved it. She's a big kid at heart. It was mine and the kids first time. Absolutely do it. Its really wicked.

OsfameronTanamoril · 26/10/2026 12:09

I would also rather bang my.head against a wall.

When my dc were that sort of age, the only thing that mattered to me was their happiness. In your situation, my birthday would be made all the more wonderful by knowing my dc was having a wonderful time.

Mind you, I generally can’t be bothered with birthdays, even ones with a zero, so it wouldn’t occur to me to have to do something big to mark it. We’re going to be 50 in a few years, and we do want to do something nice, mostly because our dc will 21 and 18 and we haven’t had a night together alone since before the eldest was born!

Yes perhaps not this, maybe my actual birthday we could do some sightseeing and eat delicious food, then head there the next day

I would. Your daughter is the perfect age only once and hopefully it'll be a memory that will stay with you both for a long time.

I've done Orlando and Paris Disney and loved them both, the children still say the Orlando holiday was the best of their lives. They are now teens and I'm so glad we did it when they were (just) still primary age bout old enough to do the bigger rides.

PistachioTiramisu · 26/10/2026 12:10

I wouldn't spend one minute there, let alone a 50th birthday!

I’ve never gone, despite the fact that we spend a fair bit of time in Paris — but I hate theme parks and rides, and all the delights of Paris are available, so it’s a no-brainer!

DS will just have to deal.

You will not get delicious food at Disney or a lovely hotel, despite the astronomical cost suggesting otherwise. I've taken DD and she loved it, so it was worth it for that alone - but I also combined it with a few days in Paris so we were both very happy (just not necessarily at the same time!)

AliTheMinx · 26/10/2026 12:13

Hell no. It sounds horrific!!!

Well then that will save you £££ 😂
Unless she goes on and on about visiting Disney every single day then she'll probably get over never going.

Yes I feel like this too, it would make me happy to see her happy. I thought if I hate it, I could console myself with a glass of champagne by the eiffel tower.
I also don't like fuss on birthdays, but equally don't want to sit at home on a big birthday
