Would you spend your 50th at Disneyland?

Would this be weird?

I'm definitely not a Disney adult 🤣
My Dd has wanted to go for a few years, by my 50th (just over a year away) she will be 9, and it feels like time is running out to take her and for it to be magical.
As cheesy as it sounds, i'm happy to go as it makes me happy to see her happy. Of course I would rather be on a beach in Hawaii, but can't afford that and love Paris and we can see the sights and show her Paris too

It just seems a bit 😂 to spend your 50th there. The last time I was in Paris was for my 30th when we got engaged

I would rather spend my 50th in Mansfield than in Disneyland.

Ghastly, American consumerist corporation-worshipping nonsense.

CarbootJunction · 26/10/2026 17:08

You know it's about 30 miles from Paris?

Needmorelego · 26/10/2026 17:30

@CarbootJunction There's a train from Paris to Disney.
30 miles is nothing - probably takes less than an hour.

mondaytosunday · 26/10/2026 17:42

No. But would I take a child that would absolutely love it? Yes. If it happened to be in my 50th, couldn’t care less.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 26/10/2026 17:46

Have many of the Disney haters actually been to Disney, or are they trying to pretend to be cool and just being snobbish. We have had some terrific memorable fun family holidays in Disney World Orlando combined with Universal Studios.. Two sets of my children loved it so much that they had their honeymoons in Disneyland.
OP you will make your child very happy by doing a Disney holiday and even if you find that it's not for you at least you've done something caring for your child's happiness.
Ignore the fun sponges.

I just went for the first time at 50, with younger relatives. I was not expecting to enjoy it much at all but it was great. It was sunny in Oct.

the shows were amazing, the rides good fun, the Halloween parade was top notch. All the actors giving it their all.
The frozen bit cafe served Swedish meatballs. I loved the attention to detail.

I would def go, we stayed in a centre parcs place that is a bus ride away and it was also really good. You could stay there a week, do two days in Disney and then other things in Lille / Paris. The centre parcs had a great indoor water park.

I would do it and I would NEVER have thought that before I went

SexyFrenchDepression · 26/10/2026 17:51

I went with 7 friends, all adults for my 40th and no doubt I will go for my 50th, will be doing Tokyo disneysea next year also (with my older teens) and its DHs 60th (he definitely wouldn't pick disney but its how it falls)! It was fab for my 40th, we drank champagne on main street, cocktails in the evenings and rides/shows in the day. We went to Paris for the day also in the middle, dead easy on the train.

We arent full on disney adults in the derogatory manner people elude to on MN but we like to have a laugh there and do lots of different holidays. I would love to have a 9 yo to take 😂 mine are a lot older so its different.

I wouldn't over think it, as an adult does it matter if you're there on your birthday, surely its for your daughter and you can do something more grown up for your birthday also.

Ah I have not seen the new Frozen bit yet, we went last year and it was being built so I have just booked a little trip in January to check it out 😂 (just adults)

lifehappens12 · 26/10/2026 17:54

We took our 13 year old in the summer and she still loved it. And said she still wants to go as she gets older.

time isn’t running out.

but I was a massive you wouldn’t get me at Disney unless you paid me. I don’t like big scarey rides and ‘exit through the gift shop drive me crazy’. But there is magic and while I am not completely selfless - making my children happy makes me happy.

Deadringer · 26/10/2026 17:55

Disney isn't my thing, i have lovely memories of going there when the dc were small, but its not a place that interests me as an adult (60). However I went in February with my adult dd as her friend let her down last minute and she didn't want to go on her own. We actually had a great time, its clean, safe, and has a lovely atmosphere. Combined with a visit to Paris, I reckon you will have an amazing time!

FettleOfKish · 26/10/2026 17:57

I’m not a ‘Disney Adult’ but I’ve been to DLP a couple of times as an adult and would absolutely do as you plan (in fact DS will be 9 just before my 50th, so I could do exactly that, although it’s a few years off) combined with a couple of days of lovely things you want to do in Paris.

I couldn’t really give a toss about my own birthday (I spent my last one on a high-speed cross-country train in the midst of a twin-centre holiday) but seeing DS experience things that bring him joy brings me joy, so it would be a win-win.

Your DD won’t be enthralled by the magic of it forever.

Sirzy · 26/10/2026 17:59

It’s not something me or ds have any interest in so I wouldn’t. But that’s irrelevant it works for you and your daughter so go and have a fantastic time!

Pinadaqx2 · 26/10/2026 18:04

Yes I would go its a nice idea. Update us OP!

Zanatdy · 26/10/2026 18:05

Absolutely.

ZebraPyjamas · 26/10/2026 18:05

I wouldn’t be into Disney OR theme parks but I went (years ago) for my daughter’s 10th birthday and did a few days at the park and a few days in Paris and I loved every second of it, park included! If you’re happy to suck it up and go on the rides with her or have someone else to go on the rides with her, the Paris side of things will make up for it even if you don’t love the Disney part

Dandeloosha · 26/10/2026 18:08

Why don’t you take her to DLP for a couple of days - and I think you should while she still gets the magic of it - and go to Paris for a night or two for your birthday?

Coconutter24 · 26/10/2026 18:09

Headdoesntfeelclear · 26/10/2026 12:08

I feel time is running out until she'll find these things too babyish

I took my 13 and 17 year old to Disneyworld in January and they loved it!

FillerTrackOnTheAlbumOfLife · 26/10/2026 18:10

It's not my thing so I wouldn't spend a birthday there, but no reason why you shouldn't. As long as it's what you genuinely want to do within the limits of your budget, go for it.

Sgreenpy · 26/10/2026 18:26

If you like theme parks and Disney, then go.
We took our son when he was about 4 - and we liked it, although the food wasn't great. The rides and the themeing were.
We didn't watch any of the parades - just took advantage of lack of queues at the rides (and some of the queues were LONG even not in school hols). My son is not a fan of people in costumes.
I love visiting Paris too.

TheRealSmurfette · 26/10/2026 18:36

Needmorelego · 26/10/2026 12:06

Take her for her 10th and do something different for you on your 50th.

This

NormasArse · 26/10/2026 18:37

Headdoesntfeelclear · 26/10/2026 12:07

😂 Is it that bad

I hated it 😬

Furrydogmum · 26/10/2026 18:42

Mine were either 5 and 9, or 6 and 10 when we went.. we all really enjoyed it! I'd go back now at 50 like a shot, and the kids would too - 20 years on! I haven't looked it up since we were there so maybe I wouldn't be so enthusiastic if it has had major changes 🤷‍♀️
Edited for typo.

Wowthatwasabigstep · 26/10/2026 18:51

Goodness, I would literally stick pins in my eyes in preference to going to Disneyland. I have a tribe of children and have managed to get them all to adulthood and teens without going. There were a few muttering many years ago about going which was promptly dismissed. I have many more exciting countries to visit before I succumb to mouse shaped pancakes for breakfast.

A safari would be a far more enjoyable and memorable an experience, worth researching I would suggest.

Gothwife · 26/10/2026 18:56

100% but if I had the choice I’d do disney world as I’m not fond of DLP. We’re planning a big WDW trip in a couple of years for our 20th wedding anniversary but we are theme park enthusiasts so it’s definitely our thing.

Aintgointogoa · 26/10/2026 19:03

I am with @TuxedoPark and @PistachioTiramisu. I would prefer virtually anything to a Disney resort and to spend my 50TH BIRTHDAY in one with Paris within reach - well I would weep very bitter tears. It has never been nor never will be a 'thing' for me. When my son was about 10 my bro took him with his brood to Florida Disney. They had a whale of a time. I was very grateful. Son is now 51 and visited Florida, stayed in an onsite hotel with a premium pass and went so often on the Harry Potter ride he was physically sick 🤣
