Would you spend your 50th at Disneyland?

Would this be weird?

I'm definitely not a Disney adult 🤣
My Dd has wanted to go for a few years, by my 50th (just over a year away) she will be 9, and it feels like time is running out to take her and for it to be magical.
As cheesy as it sounds, i'm happy to go as it makes me happy to see her happy. Of course I would rather be on a beach in Hawaii, but can't afford that and love Paris and we can see the sights and show her Paris too

It just seems a bit 😂 to spend your 50th there. The last time I was in Paris was for my 30th when we got engaged

I would! Been twice and I love it!

MrsAvocet · 26/10/2026 12:57

I wouldn't, because I don't like Disney and I actively dislike theme parks, but if you will enjoy it, go for it @Headdoesntfeelclear
Enjoying things because other people you love enjoy them is a perfectly valid thing in my opinion. I went to a fairly niche museum with DH and DS (who is 21) this weekend. It was something that I have minimal interest in but they are fascinated by. We had a lovely day. It was actually more interesting than I expected to be honest, but the best thing was that DH and DS were so excited to see something that they'd been wanting to see for ages and not had the chance to go to before and it made it a lovely, happy day out. With a young child I think that's even more noticeable. As long as it's not something you know you'll really dislike I'd say doing something that your DC will enjoy that's also your celebration is fine. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks though. If it's something you want to do and can afford then just do it and ignore any naysayers.

RosaBaby2 · 26/10/2026 12:59

Yes absolutely.

Fidgety31 · 26/10/2026 12:59

I spent my 50th at Disney world in Florida. So yes I would’ve also considered Disneyland Paris .
I love Disney holidays and would happily go every year !

TofuTuesday · 26/10/2026 13:06

I would. Stayed at the new marvel hotel and it was fun. We’ve been several times and the adult kids enjoy it. You have to just accept it’s a bit of escapism with rides really. Although one of mine is disabled and gets access tickets, so I’ve never been in the really long queues. Food is a bit hit and miss although weirdly the vegan option in Ratatouille restaurant was great.

I had (a series of) zoom cocktail parties for my Covid 50th. I think I’d do that again in preference to going to Disney. Went once. Never again.

Oh no!

I have just booked DLP for next October as my 50th bday celebration! We are going the weekend after my actual birthday because I wanted to make sure it would be Halloween themed when we get there. I am not a Disney adult and I don't like rollercoasters but I love DLP, have never been to any of the other parks so have no comparison. I've been previously with my daughter when she was 2 and 6, she will be 19 when we return and it will be the first time for my twins who will be 6. I'm a lone parent so my bday does have to work around my children but for me this is the best way I can spend it, with my children hopefully having the best time! I'm already excited and it's a year away 😂 if you do decide to go I hope you have a fabulous time.

Oh wow! Hope you have a fantastic time too

When Dad was dying he asked what I'd like to go and see after he was gone. I explained I was going to have my 50th at Disney World. But my partner and I never went. Its now going to be my 60th instead.

Could you plan your trip so you go to Disney Florida and then drive or get a train to make the 4 hour journey and spend a few days on a beach in Miami?

Millytante · 26/10/2026 13:18

Headdoesntfeelclear · 26/10/2026 12:08

I feel time is running out until she'll find these things too babyish

Well then, let time do its thing and your dilemma will be a moot point!

AnotherEmma · 26/10/2026 13:23

I find it very depressing that you would do something for your child and not for yourself on your milestone birthday.

If you want to take DD to Disneyland, do it for her birthday, or during the school holidays (occasionally uk and french holidays don't overlap so it might be cheaper?)

What do you want to do on your 50th? You don't have to have a party or a big trip if you don't want to. You could do a spa day/weekend or a fancy meal out with a small group or whatever you want really.

What time of year is your birthday? Did you say it would be around Christmas time? That's not the best time to go to Paris tbh, it's best in the spring imo.

Wistfultearia · 26/10/2026 13:26

I'd hate it personally, but if seeing your DD happy sounds like a brilliant 50th present for you, then go for it. You could make sure you see something of Paris too.

IAmJaneDoe · 26/10/2026 13:29

The people I know who are meh about disneyland, have said it was horrible and stressful when they’ve taken their kids. Kids have loved it. Adults who love Disney have loved it. I know people can be judgey about adults who love Disney but I think it’s fine and if it were you who loved disney, I’d be saying go for it.

I’d say I personally wouldn’t want to have a significant birthday celebration spent in an environment I’ll find stressful, be it Disneyland or clubbing, but as a parent, and if my child would find it magical and wanted that activity , I’d absolutely put myself in that environment and make the magic happen for their birthday celebrations or maybe as a family Xmas gift.

I took my primary school age kids to Disney and Paris. We did Disney and also the Catacombs, the Eiffel Tower, fed the birds at Notre Dame and visited the Louvre. It was a fantastic trip and they still remember it today. And although I’m not a Disney person, I throughly enjoyed some of the rides, the haunted house, POC, etc etc. So why not? We have just celebrated my dil’s 30th at Disney in another country as there is a Disney in the city we were visiting and we all had a great time-even my dh who is very curmudgeonly about Disney.

When my dc were that sort of age, the only thing that mattered to me was their happiness. In your situation, my birthday would be made all the more wonderful by knowing my dc was having a wonderful time.

Mind you, I generally can’t be bothered with birthdays, even ones with a zero, so it wouldn’t occur to me to have to do something big to mark it. We’re going to be 50 in a few years, and we do want to do something nice, mostly because our dc will 21 and 18 and we haven’t had a night together alone since before the eldest was born!

Why haven’t you been out alone … presuming no special needs?

Yes the thought of showing her Paris itself and making it part educational too is making me feel more excited

I remember getting a 3 day Disney pass but on the 3rd, they wanted to go to Paris instead. I think I took them to the Conciergerie and we wandered around St Michel and had pizza. You could save unused Disney passes on those days (20 years ago) so we revisited Paris and used up the remaining day pass. I was a single parent so an ideal holiday with plenty to do. We did it on the cheap too-cheap Eurostar and a cheap campsite and hotel. We had a lot of fun. I lived in Paris for a few months in my twenties on a work secondment so did have the advantage of reasonable language and how to get about. But Disney can be very enjoyable-I loved seeing people dressed up and having a good time even if I’m not into it all-and if my kid was having a great time, it would make it all the better. Like another app, am not precious about big birthdays etc so as long as it was nice, it would be fun.

I wouldn't cause my birthday is in late June and I wouldn't want to go to Florida during the summer (I live in Chicago so Disney World is closest to me) but aside from that I don't see why not.

I went to Disney for my 50th.
