AIBU - the Green party has become a racist organisation?

Twiglets1 · Yesterday 19:35

The Green Party of England and Wales has been declared a racist organisation by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

The Jewish body, which is the largest in the UK, was responding to the "Zionism is racism" policy motion passed at the Green Party's conference earlier this month.

Board of Deputies president Phil Rosenberg said a vote passed by 118 votes to one to declare that the Greens had, "by adopting an antisemitic platform, become a racist party".

I agree with this assessment but AIBU?

The decision was the latest blow to the Greens after Labour pledged to end power-sharing deals with Green councils that back the motion.

Ed Davey has ruled out the Liberal Democrats entering a national partnership with the Green party over its policy declaring “Zionism is racism”.

Kemi Badenoch told ITV News' Political Editor, Robert Peston she thinks the Green Party is "full of a lot of people who are antisemites and are quite frankly not okay".

They certainly aren't about recycling and cycling and composting anymore

No, I think the Zionism is Racism vote has been disastrous to their credibility as a party that is mainly concerned with environmental issues.

Which is a shame because it's not as though those issues have become less important.

They are utterly absurd these days. They are the Trans-Gaza party.

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 20:07

Well they like their votes don't they, so they can't complain about this one. YANBU. There was no need for the 'Greens' to have passed that motion in the first place, except to be pressurised into being antisemitic. FAFO.

Twiglets1 · Yesterday 20:15

The motion has split the Green party and reduced their chances of gaining seats in the next General Election. An own goal scored by idiots.

Though I do feel some sympathy for traditional Greens who DO still care about the environment, I also think it was obvious they had a problem with antisemitism in the party before this vote made it so transparent.

You missed out 'hypnotist tits'...

They sold 'The Invention of the Jewish People' at their conference, and Mothin Ali aggressively singled out a Jewish reporter. There's no debate over whether it's a racist party, the question is whether that is acceptable to people, or not.

MerryAquaKoala · Yesterday 20:27

Of course YANBU. Racist and sexist (they think men can be women). Dreadful.

TheBlueKoala · Yesterday 20:28

No, they are not racists because they are very pro islam. They are definitely anti-semitic and bonkers though.

Eh? You can be racist and pro Islam.

I thought they were doing quite well but saw a poll today where they are second from bottom. I think recent events haven’t done them any favours.

Sunworshipper72 · Yesterday 20:33

Zionism seems to be pretty racist ideology these days (let's remember , it wasn't that originally) but I'm not sure why Green party had to make that statement. I don't see any point them getting involved in that. I used to be a Green party member, but then all their focus seemed to move to trans rights and now this. I no longer vote for them.

It is confusing ... they have trebled their membership in only a year - since Polanski became leader.

Keyboardkaties · Yesterday 20:35

Every time someone says they vote Green, you say back to them ‘I had no idea you were quite so antisemitic!’. They’ll get the message eventually that the party that used to stand for the environment is long gone, swamped by crazy extremists and their vile ideas.

They were doing quite well until recently.

Polanski is now the political leader with the lowest popularity rating, according to Pollcheck (Approval ratings and popularity of UK political leaders, from all major pollsters).

It lists Andy Burnham as the most popular, followed by Kemi Badenoch then Ed Davey then Rupert Lowe then Nigel Farage then Zac Polanski.

Surely that’s just from extremism factions hoping they can buy enough power to secure the votes of the fools that still think they care about the environment. I mean no actual person that cared about the environment thought that sympathising endlessly to men larping as women would be a good thing? Or that centering the politics of a war in a far off place that the UK has no influence over would be a good use of the UK publics resources.

There has been a concerted campaign by a lot of groups like Greens for Palestine as well as the Corbynite Left who were expelled from Labour and disappointed by Corbyns latest vanity project to join the Greens, specifically to vote on the Zionism is Racism policy. They have eaten the Green Party from within and completely taken it over. The old environmentalist Greens are completely outnumbered almost 4 to 1 so it's going to be almost impossible to get their party back.

Yes ...would like to see what has happened to their membership since that controversial vote though.

I guess we won't see the results reflected in membership rates for a while but I would certainly expect quite a few people have left the party or won't be renewing their membership.

The Zionism is Racism motion was proposed by Lubna Speitan, a British-Palestinian artist.

Speitan had joined the Green Party within the prior year, having formerly been a member of Your Party.

She has argued that Hamas should not be proscribed as a terror group.
