AIBU - the Green party has become a racist organisation?

Twiglets1 · Yesterday 19:35

The Green Party of England and Wales has been declared a racist organisation by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

The Jewish body, which is the largest in the UK, was responding to the "Zionism is racism" policy motion passed at the Green Party's conference earlier this month.

Board of Deputies president Phil Rosenberg said a vote passed by 118 votes to one to declare that the Greens had, "by adopting an antisemitic platform, become a racist party".

I agree with this assessment but AIBU?

To put it mildly, the Green party need a stronger vetting process.

What on earth were they doing accepting a new member who has argued that Hamas should not be proscribed as a terror group?

It's one thing wanting your membership to grow but having members like that within the party do it no favours with more moderate Green members/voters.

They could rebrand themselves as a provision party and no one would mind - it would be the honest thing to do. But in their current guise, pretending to care about the environment still is deceiving those who give them their vote under false pretences. It’s dishonest.

The Zionism is Racism motion was proposed by Lubna Speitan, a British-Palestinian artist.

Speitan had joined the Green Party within the prior year, having formerly been a member of Your Party.

She has argued that Hamas should not be proscribed as a terror group.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zionism_is_Racism_(motion)

The Green Party has launched an investigation into party member Lubna Speitan, after it emerged she was listed in court documents as a "close friend" of a man later jailed for supporting al-Qaeda.
Speitan* *was behind a controversial Green Party conference motion which described Zionism as a form of racism.
A Green Party spokesperson said: "Where members have expressed views that do not fit in with the party's values, we have internal processes to investigate and an investigation is underway."
In a post on Instagram, before the Green Party had confirmed its investigation to the BBC, Speitan said: "I reject all defamatory and nonsense claims made about me."

What a lovely human being….

I want to know what her idea of a one (Palestinian) state solution looks like.

Good to hear that an investigation is underway. Maybe if they can chuck her out of the party they can justify a second vote - this time encouraging every member of the Green party to participate.

Yes, rather than the 0.4% of the total Green Party membership.

Maybe Polanski will turn up next time…

The greens have been infiltrated by Islamists

And the far left.

But a party that got more press than it's quota of votes, elected representatives and policies that would never be acceptable to the majority was just open to that infiltration.

Labour suffered it pre Kinnock and pre Corbyn (it was better done in the latter case).

It only takes a small minority to make a huge difference in party politics, group think takes over so a left wing, islamic group of a 50 can sway a whole party

Keyboardkaties · Yesterday 21:00

See also the trans activists infiltrating unions. There needs to be a minimum 50% of voters agreeing to a policy or appointment before it is introduced, otherwise we’ve seen in situations like this how the crazies can take hold..

He seems to have a pattern of not turning up/being eligible to vote. The mayor he assured of his vote, his not being registered/paying council tax and not being there for this crucial vote. Oh well, he is not an MP - but he is not then accountable to Parliament.

I've just realised my title really should have said AIBU the UK Green party has become a racist organisation.

The European Greens almost immediately expressed “deep concern” about the “Zionism is racism” motion and issued a statement saying “We unequivocally distance ourselves from it.”

The one we are talking about is the Green Party of England and Wales - the Scots fell out over the trans issue.

They are utterly absurd these days. They are the Trans-Gaza party.

Yep, which is a strange contradiction in itself

They sold 'The Invention of the Jewish People' at their conference, and Mothin Ali aggressively singled out a Jewish reporter. There's no debate over whether it's a racist party, the question is whether that is acceptable to people, or not.

Unfortunately it is acceptable to thousands of people in this country. However hopefully it will never be acceptable to the majority of the population.

Neverstopwondering · Yesterday 21:15

TheBlueKoala · Yesterday 20:28

No, they are not racists because they are very pro islam. They are definitely anti-semitic and bonkers though.

You can be racist against just one or more groups of people. It isn't a everyone or nothing thing.

The decision was the latest blow to the Greens after Labour pledged to end power-sharing deals with Green councils that back the motion.

Ed Davey has ruled out the Liberal Democrats entering a national partnership with the Green party over its policy declaring “Zionism is racism”.

Kemi Badenoch told ITV News' Political Editor, Robert Peston she thinks the Green Party is "full of a lot of people who are antisemites and are quite frankly not okay".

That’s pretty clear from all of them.

Neverstopwondering · Yesterday 21:21

BrandiedAromatics · Yesterday 20:34

It is confusing ... they have trebled their membership in only a year - since Polanski became leader.

They are just doing very well compared to how badly they were doing previously

He tripled membership yes but the way he has done it by inviting the worst of tbe worst into the party is possibly going to destroy the party for good. He courted large numbers of people that support various extremist thinking. Not a particular wise thing to do and a little short sighted.

No they didn’t. They Scot’s green leadership is rabidly pro trans, they think the English Greens didn’t go nearly far enough on Palestine and have called for the decision to proscribe Hamas a terrorist organisation to be repealed, they have managed to roll back from the verge of doing something actually good for the environment when they nearly dropped their opposition to nuclear power stations, and narrowly avoided the motion calling for polyamory to be legalised. They also have an MSP that went on national radio and said they didn’t know if they were male or female cause they hadn’t had their chromosomes checked (TAKE A LOOK IN YOUR UNDERWEAR!!!).

They’re mad as a box of frogs, far, far madder than the English Greens and that’s saying something!

It certainly is. Nobody ever accused these woke types of having even the most basic critical thinking skills.

Neverstopwondering · Yesterday 21:24

They were doing quite well until recently.

Polanski is now the political leader with the lowest popularity rating, according to Pollcheck (Approval ratings and popularity of UK political leaders, from all major pollsters).

It lists Andy Burnham as the most popular, followed by Kemi Badenoch then Ed Davey then Rupert Lowe then Nigel Farage then Zac Polanski.

www.pollcheck.co.uk/favourability-ratings

Imagine being less popular with the general public than Farage

I mean even people that are very right wing argue about whether they can possibly vote Farage

I genuinely don't know. Always thought you just pay membership and only get vetted if going to stand for MP. That is why councillors are often in the news because of iffy past or they turn out to be racist. Councillors not being a very high up position.

JohnofWessex · Yesterday 21:32

Have a read of this

https://jonathonporritt.com/zionism-is-racism-green-party/

Now will those who oppose the basic idea that Zionism in its current form is racism please explain to me, a Bear with a Small Brain why the current behaviour of the State of Israel is OK.

In particular the treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank.

I would also point out that I have visited two states that no longer exist - the USSR & Czechoslovakia, one that had just ceased to exist - the DDR and DW had been to what was then Yugoslavia so the idea that any state has a God Given right to exist is clearly not sustainable.

Finally if you do want the State of Israel to continue existing do you think that its current behaviour is helping its long term survival, if so please explain.

Oh and a 'Security Zone' in the Lebanon is what most people would call an invasion again if this is OK, please explain why

ZIONISM REALLY IS RACISM - THE GREEN PARY ARE RIGHT - Jonathon Porritt

Jonathon Porritt on the Green Party’s Zionism is Racism motion, the backlash from its own MPs, and why the party is right to make a call others won’t.

I guess you’re right. Maybe they should at least do a cursory check of social media to check new members aren’t Hamas sympathisers.
