AIBU - the Green party has become a racist organisation?

Twiglets1 · Yesterday 19:35

The Green Party of England and Wales has been declared a racist organisation by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

The Jewish body, which is the largest in the UK, was responding to the "Zionism is racism" policy motion passed at the Green Party's conference earlier this month.

Board of Deputies president Phil Rosenberg said a vote passed by 118 votes to one to declare that the Greens had, "by adopting an antisemitic platform, become a racist party".

I agree with this assessment but AIBU?

Yes the Scottish Greens did fall out with the E&W greens at one point and called them transphobic ( yes really!) The SG are even further off their trolleys. Although SG were not part of this vote they are thoroughly supportive of it. If you want to understand why we should never have proportional representation look at the excessive amount of power the greens have in the Scottish Parliament.

Yes, rather than the 0.4% of the total Green Party membership.

Maybe Polanski will turn up next time…

That would take for him to grow some balls

Think he has shown everyone lately no matter which side you supporter he hasn't got any

Now will those who oppose the basic idea that Zionism in its current form is racism please explain to me, a Bear with a Small Brain why the current behaviour of the State of Israel is OK.

In particular the treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank.

I would also point out that I have visited two states that no longer exist - the USSR & Czechoslovakia, one that had just ceased to exist - the DDR and DW had been to what was then Yugoslavia so the idea that any state has a God Given right to exist is clearly not sustainable.

Finally if you do want the State of Israel to continue existing do you think that its current behaviour is helping its long term survival, if so please explain.

Oh and a 'Security Zone' in the Lebanon is what most people would call an invasion again if this is OK, please explain why

Any other existing countries that you feel should no longer exist?

Maybe if a country has a government behaving badly they should all be at risk? Goodbye US, Goodbye Russia… I could go on.

No they didn’t. They Scot’s green leadership is rabidly pro trans, they think the English Greens didn’t go nearly far enough on Palestine and have called for the decision to proscribe Hamas a terrorist organisation to be repealed, they have managed to roll back from the verge of doing something actually good for the environment when they nearly dropped their opposition to nuclear power stations, and narrowly avoided the motion calling for polyamory to be legalised. They also have an MSP that went on national radio and said they didn’t know if they were male or female cause they hadn’t had their chromosomes checked (TAKE A LOOK IN YOUR UNDERWEAR!!!).

They’re mad as a box of frogs, far, far madder than the English Greens and that’s saying something!

They did. I didn't say which way they went!

Scottish Greens 'suspend ties' with Green Party of England and Wales over trans views

THE Scottish Greens have formally "suspended ties" with the Green Party of England and Wales.

I went to Yugoslavia skiing as a teenager. Lovely place but may have been served horse even though they swore it was goat.

Don't think you understand what most zionists believe as that has been greatly overshadowed with what some political zionists say.

I don't think Israel has the right to exist anymore than any other country does. However it happened, not in a way most people approve of but it did. Therefore the only sensible argument now is what can be done to help millions of people living in the area to have peace. Declaring antizionism on most Jews that only believe Israel is needed for Jewish safety and that Jews should have one place on this planet to live free from prejudice isn't actually very constructive really.

As the OP it would be really helpful if you answered the question.

I have no views as to whether a particular state should or should not exist and I omitted to point out that under the terms of the Good Friday agreement the UK has agreed to a referendum on the Unification of Ireland which would mean the end of the British Province of Northern Ireland.

Personally and for a number of reasons I dont particularly want the State of Israel to cease existing but I certainly would not want the UK to become involved in propping it up.

I wouldn’t say the UK is involved in propping it up though. The UK has zero influence over what happens in the Middle East and so our politicians should waste zero time in discussing it. It is totally and utterly irrelevant to our lives.

I am concerned at the treatment of the Palestinians trying to harvest their olives. Oxfam have some of these products for sale - so that you can support their livelihood. The behaviour of the settlers is appalling and Netanyahu has a responsibility to protect these farmers in their occupied land.

I don’t shop at Oxfam due to their TWAW stance. 🤮

There are other fair-trade sources but this is vital for these people. The settlers are attacking them and stealing their harvest.

I dont support Hamas and they have clearly been a disaster for Palestinians

BUT if you are supporting the actions of the current Government f Israel you are supporting some pretty appalling violence that threatens its long term future

No one is supporting the current government of Israel though. You’re trying to make Middle East politics relevant to the UK politics and it’s not working because what’s going on over there has nothing to do with us at all.

You say you have no views as to whether a particular state should or should not exist.

Yet you also asked people on this thread to “explain” why Israel should exist given the current behaviour of her government.

There is much to criticise with the current Israeli government, yes. But the same could be said of many other countries where no one is being asked to explain why they should exist. Israel is the only Jewish state in the world. That the Green Party is obsessed with their right to exist and only their right to exist seems deeply antisemitic in my opinion.

Who is supporting the actions of the current government of Israel? I’ve not seen anyone do that on this thread. Most pro Israel supporters will disagree with many elements of the current Israeli government- turning a blind eye or even encouraging Settler violence being an obvious example.

Doesn’t mean I question Israel’s right to exist. It is the only Jewish majority country in the world and a place many Jews will see as a safe place for them at a time of rising antisemitism across the world.

Do you not think that it is right to be concerned, also, about the way that Palestinians are being violently displaced in their historic land?

Yes of course.

What I would like to see is a two state solution. And both sides to be able to live in peace. Though realistically we seem a long way away from that.

It doesnt matter what Israel do or don't do, there is another party who want rid of them - permanently. Are they supposed to be more worried about literally surviving or about placating people who think they know what Zionism means but really don't.

Why does zionism keep being reduced to an ideology of the political kind? That's really convenient.

There are various strands, but even political zionism was built on the revival of Jewish identity and survival through ages of persecution.

Johnathon Porritt has some niche views.

He openly supports the designated terrorist group Palestine Action and has been arrested several times.
