I have a first date in a few hours, now he’s texted me something that’s put me off

I have a first date tonight with a man I’ve never met, we started talking online. He knows I’m very into cooking/baking, and just now while texting him I told him I made some protein pancakes. He asked if he could have some, I joked back that I would make him some, and because they’re protein pancakes they will make him strong. He replied “Strong so I can lift you in bed yeah 😏?”. I’ve never even met this man before. Now I feel that expectation and pressure for sex is there now and feel less excited about meeting him. It also feels very presumptuous of him, like he thinks because I’ve agreed to a date I’m up for sexual activity. I’ve not texted back yet because I’m not sure I want to go now.

For context; I have never made any sexual remarks towards him before or him to me, we have been talking for almost two weeks. I am conventionally attractive but I am not provocative in how I dress or how I present myself online. Most of my photos online are of my travel pictures, scenery and food etc. I don’t think I do anything to invite these remarks or give off the impression that I’d be into that so prematurely, but for some reason men will always try and initiate a conversation about sex before the first date. I’m getting tired of it. Am I overreacting?

What did he reply? Are you going?

ThePerfectStormBird · Yesterday 16:09

Well are you potentially up for sex with this man? If you are what time frame are you thinking? I haven’t dated for donkeys but when I was I would have called that flirting.

Jtfrtj · Yesterday 16:09

As I thought, he replied “hahaha it was a joke calm down lol”.

I have no idea if I’m potentially up for sex with him I’ve never met the man?

With someone I’d never met I’d call it creepy…

Uh-oh. Well and truly shot himself in the foot there. Enjoy your night in @Jtfrtj - crack open some wine and get cosy!

Oh god no block and move on.

If he's not able to recognise he made you uncomfortable and apologise then I would decline the date and block him.

hatethedarknights · Yesterday 16:13

Also I hate being told to “calm down” so that would be the nail in the coffin for me 🤣

Exactly.
ask him to come and view your ankle

toiletpaperthief · Yesterday 16:13

That would give me the "ick" too. I would think he's either a) a creep, b) socially akward or c) a guy looking for a shag. I would get rid and reply something in the lines of "how about instead of lifting me in bed I tie you up to the st andrews cross in my basement dungeon and you can see how strong I AM?"

He'll probably won't respond to that so it saves you from blocking him or engaging in any form of explanation.

PuppyKeep · Yesterday 16:13

He sounds like a waste of makeup

MargotLeadbetterOBE · Yesterday 16:13

Calm down dear. Urgh. What’s on the tv tonight?

JMSA · Yesterday 16:15

He could have meant in the future, not necessarily on the first date! 😬
It still would put me off a bit though. I HATE it when men pull that shit.

Omg OP absolutely do not meet him!! He was inappropriate, vulgar, made a cheap unnecessary joke, and when it's the first date he's meant to be charming and on his best behaviour, not talking about sex. Just classless, even just joking about it.
It's jarring because you have Standards.
Ughhhhhh.

aquashiv · Yesterday 16:15

There's your answer… Well done—he was testing your boundaries.

BillieWiper · Yesterday 16:15

If the notion of sex with him seems unappealing then I don't think you should bother seeing him again.
But it's not like he's bombarding you with dirty pics and messages.
To me if I did fancy someone that remark wouldn't really be enough to put me off. But only if I already felt I wanted sex with them.

MeridaBrave · Yesterday 16:15

Reastically the tiny amount of protein is not going to help even if he is already lifting, so it’s a joke in poor taste.

My DH can bench press over 100kg but he has never lifted me in bed. He has (with my agreement) picked me up and squatted with me on his back. I can bench press over 60kg but I have never tried to lift my DH in bed either

cantthinkofagoodusername2026 · Yesterday 16:16

He’s testing the waters and/or trying to make
you uncomfortable.

ToKittyornottoKitty · Yesterday 16:16

I don’t think your joke to him was that great, do you think he’s not strong already? You made a bit of a joke at him and he made one back and missed the mark. But his responses to you would put me off too, sounds like you’ve avoided wasting your time on this date.

I think it’s called standards, but to each their own.

Again? She’s never met the bloke. How does she know she fancies him, likes his personality and might have a sexual relationship with him if all goes well?
