I did one of these threads under a different username a couple of years ago with hundreds and hundreds of replies and it genuinely brought me to tears. I can't find it to read back on.

I'm recovering from surgery and laying horizontal and was hoping some of you could revive your funny / cringy experiences to brighten my day.

After a long marriage, I have spent the last 3 years being superbly single and here are some that I have been through, which immediately gave me the 'ick.'

• I was taken on a lovely date in London. Really hit it off well. He drove me home (rooky error) and proceeded to indicate around every bend and curve in the road. I got home, thanked him for his time and blocked him.

• next one was a guy I was seeing for a few months. He told me 6 days in 'I generally really love you.' And would type Mabye instead of maybe. I just couldn't get over it.

• getting jiggy with someone. I proceeded to use my hand to help me along. After the deed was done and I (finally) got there, he proceeded to well up with actual tears and told me I shouldn't need to do that, and to give him constructive feedback on his performance so I wouldn't need to do that in future. I didn't sleep with him again.

• Those fucking ridiculous ballerina socks men wear. This might be trivial but I just wait for any bloke wearing them to burst into a full pirouette. This was also the same guy as above.

• Another hinge guy would send 😂 after every message. What are you up to today? 😂
I'm just getting home from work 😂

I have so many more. Many many more. Please tell me your experiences to remind me why I need to stay single!

Solidarity @BakedInAButteryFlakyCrust I too had major surgery yesterday and am feeling sore and a bit miserable!

I dated a guy about 16-17 years ago who was very attractive and tall. Think Dominic West. But, every evening he'd call me on the way to the tube station when he left work (I was home by then, as he finished at 8pm). Every day when he got to the top of the tube stairs he'd say "OK I'm going down now... And hopefully later on you too!"

How ick is that! I didn't see it at the time as I was in my early 30s and hadn't had much dating experience.

Oh those - I don't currently have any, but I have worn them - essential for the sockless loafer or boating shoe look. Any stylish gent will know what I mean. Without them the shoes/feet very quickly become sweaty and stinky, which is unappealing.

Sweaty is much more preferable to these ugly fucks.

Kind of liked this chap . We had a couple of good dates.
First time doing the business 🫣 As he was finishing he literally shrieked. There was a pause then his whole body started vigorously twitching . Initially I actually thought he was taking some kind of fit and I froze.
Then when i was pulling up my trousers he told me It wouldn’t take much for me to get in good shape, that most of the weight I was carrying was water weight !

Mine glanced at my stomach and suggested I join the gym. He said ''You'd soon lose that''. I was about 9.5 stone at the most.

He worked from home. He had two computers. One for work, the other for video calls with his mother throughout the day........

A different bloke made me watch a video on his phone of the ''annual family game of rounders''.......😂

I’ve got some funny ones..
A guy invited me to his house for dinner, went on and on about this meal he couldn’t wait for me to try.
Dished up, roast chicken, smash potatoes, ketchup and lambrini in a mug.. not a student btw he was in his late thirties.
If this wasn’t bad enough he was a ok pub singer, he got his Mic and guitar out and serenaded me with Jolene and the Artic monkeys, I’m a scumbag don’t you know.
Another guy.. Very sexy but the sex was awful and he couldn’t cum. One night I was determined to fix this (wish I hadn’t) riding like my life depended on it and it worked.. he closed his eyes, cum while shouting mmmmmm mum mum mummy. Fuck my life.
I asked him why and he said that to stop premature ejaculation he thought about the time he caught his mum and Nan sunbathing topless.
I went on a date once and the guy ordered lamb chops. He sucked the bone and then I kid you not licked the plate.
Had a one night stand years ago, was good. When I got up in the morning saw he had long long toenails. Blocked him.

These are excellent and dreadful in equal measure 🤣🤣🤣

Nah sweaty feet can be washed, however I'll never get the image of a 6'2 man flouncing around my living room in those absolute monstrosities.

I have to disagree 😀 Who wants an expensive pair of shoes to be ruined because they stink?

He would change down the gears going round slight bends, like he was driving a motorbike instead of a car.

He said, "ooo, nom nom nom!" if he liked a meal. He was 49.

He asked what I was getting my son for his birthday "prezzie".

He had slip on shoes.

He snored with a normal rattle but then a hooooooo sound.

He cut his beard off and looked 8 years old.

Normal socks and frequent showers are your friend.

Fair enough, they look absurd, but as I've replied to another poster, it's really about not ruining the shoes, through making them stink.

My worst was a man who ate like a mechanical digger. The food would arrive and he would fall on it like a dog. His food was all gone before I'd lifted a fork.

Otherwise he was lovely so I tried again. On the second date the food was scalding hot. It didn't slow him down a bit. He still shoveled it in but between scoops would make a medium sized O with his mouth and puff out steam like a dragon. I don't think he even knew he was doing it.

I am crying with laughter at this - crying I tell you!!

Starseeking · 24/10/2026 16:44

He talked too loud. As if he was speaking to someone on the other side of the room, instead of sitting next to him. When I first noticed it, I asked him to lower his voice and he did…for about 5 seconds, then went back to shouty conversation. I couldn’t unhear what I’d heard, and blocked him as soon as the date was over.

Woahtherehoney · 24/10/2026 15:48

I went on a date with a guy and within 10 mins of meeting he told me he liked to dress up as a panda and also had all sorts of other costumes that he’d wear to work and he showed me all the pictures (he worked in IT, not any kind of children’s entertainment 😭) - I wanted to leave but he’d already booked us cinema tickets so spent ages with him and it just got weirder and weirder. Never saw him again.

😂
Like Karl Pilkington in a panda suit on Idiot Abroad

grrrlatrix · 24/10/2026 16:50

He wore a jacket with a fake hoodie bit inside like this.

I wear those socks sometimes! I’m female, if that makes a difference. And I take them off when I get home and take my shoes off, I don’t walk around with them on indoors. They’re purely for the no-socks look in public.

MyEasterBonnet · 24/10/2026 16:57

Do people ever give feedback to these oddballs? I’d love to see someone being told that a full blown conversation during sex is not normal.

MozzarElla84 · 24/10/2026 16:57

Had a date with a guy once who i met after weeks of chatting online (before this was really a thing, say 25 years ago).
He was really nice and i thought we were going to hit it off in person.

When i met him he came on way too strong. At one point he lifted me into his arms to carry me over a puddle. On a busy shopping street.

dh280125 · 24/10/2026 16:57

Said they never laughed. Turned out they meant it.

BurntBroccoli · 24/10/2026 16:58

Arranged to meet a guy online dating. He was carrying this rucksack and when he walked it would squeak loudly. It was so awkward walking through this country park with this noisy eek, eeek noise every other step. He didn’t mention it either. Weird!

No more dates ensued after this brief squeaky encounter.

What the f are ballerina socks? I guess I've been lucky...

Dollymylove · 24/10/2026 17:01

Wracking my brains and came up with a couple, forty -odd years ago now. I got chatting to a guy in a club. He seemed nice, we chatted a while and then we went over to the bar for a drink. He told me he needed to put his glasses on and when he did, he looked exactly like Syd Little of Little and Large. . I know I was being shallow but I struggled to stop myself from laughing. 😐
Another one ( me being shallow again) I got talking to guy, good looking, muscular type. Told me he was called Dennis. Time to leave and we exchanged phone numbers (no mobile phones) he jotted it down on a piece of paper and his full name....Dennis Fido.I'm ashamed to say I collapsed into fits of laughter and off he walked. Never saw him again 😆

My view would be why spend money on expensive boat shoes or loafers (at all 🤢)

but particularly when they force you to choose between sweaty feet and tiny special nylon pop socks?

Strawberryfruitstarburst · 24/10/2026 17:07

My male partner has worn the ballerina socks before and we’ve been together 16 years with no ick yet 😂😂

BoilsMyPiss · 24/10/2026 17:08

Used a fork with a closed fist to cut his food.

Really thought I could get past it

But no, three dates was enough....3 months of building up to asking him out undone by his ham fisted dissection of a steak.
