Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

1000 replies

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

If I pay my money I'm stroking a rabbit.

MyLifeInBooks · 19/10/2026 12:46

Where does it say looking at fish, stroking a rabbit or feeding goats is exclusively for children?

XenoBitch · 19/10/2026 12:47

YABVVU
I have never seen anything to suggest that petting zoos are for kids only. Never.
I love animals, and love buying feed for the goats at a place near me. They are so funny, and lift my spirits.

Needmorelego · 19/10/2026 12:48

I am an adult.
I like animals.
I didn't realise I wasn't allowed to go and visit them 🤔

nomas · 19/10/2026 12:48

YABU. Those adult entrance tickets are subsidising your child's ticket price.

Animals are not just for kids.

TimeForTeaAndG · 19/10/2026 12:49

Oh no, your precious will have to learn how to queue 🤷

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 19/10/2026 12:50

After further consideration I actually think adults shouldn't have queue behind children to stroke animals. Adults usually pay higher entry admission than children. Let those little freeloaders wait in line.

Cherrysoup · 19/10/2026 12:50

Following the OP’s logic, should only kids go on theme park rides while accompanied by strictly only one adult who holds the bags and looks on indulgently?

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:50

It’s a childish activity. It seems to be in the wider picture of adults acting like kids.

What's childish about it?

shepherd00 · 19/10/2026 12:52

Have you considered maybe they didn’t have the opportunity to go when they were children.

How is wanting to stroke an animal a childish activity?
At a petting place, I have also held a snake and a tarantula. Is that childish too?

Is it children who are looking after the animals too?

FillerTrackOnTheAlbumOfLife · 19/10/2026 12:52

Wanting to spend time with animals isn't the sole preserve of children and disabled adults.

If a venue wants to make an attraction for children only, then they're free to, but if they are happy to admit adult visitors, why on earth shouldn't they?

I love meeting animals I wouldn't routinely encounter, such as goats. I would never barge children (or anyone) out of the way, or 'hog' a viewing/petting spot but if I wait my turn I'm no less entitled to interact with the animals, and incidentally I am in my 50s!

Yes, it’s childish. I would feel silly making a 4 year old wait so I could hold a rabbit. I’m a grown woman!

I didn’t get the opportunity to go on the teacup rides, doesn’t mean I’m going to do it at 35!

I don't have a rabbit, or know anyone who does, so I would absolutely wait in line to hold one.
I pay my entrance fee like anyone else. I can do the same experiences.

vodkaredbullgirl · 19/10/2026 12:54

Aww no, are we not allowed.

I find it really petulant towards small children. But ok!

Petting zoos are for kids and disabled adults according to OP 🙄

You’re allowed to do lots of things other people find silly!

Let me guess - you also think single women and men should let mums have Christmas Day off?

Swissmeringue · 19/10/2026 12:55

YABU, of course adults should be allowed to enjoy fun days out too. Your kids (and my kids) are just going to have to wait in line like all the other paying customers.

The world’s a shitshow at the moment. If adults get enjoyment from surrounding themselves with animals, why the heck shouldn’t they? There’s so much horror and darkness in the world, sometimes we all need to remember the joy the world does have.

Because it encourages them to infantilise themselves. We’re adults for gods sake 😂
