Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

They spit at people they don't like, don't they?

they do spit but only if they feel threatened. They are actually very calm patient animals.

we often go to walk them and it’s lovely. The llamas are nice too but much bigger and I think they like their own space a bit more!

@vodkaredbullgirl I went to a wildlife park a few years ago.
They had alpacas or llamas (I can't remember which).
They had all just been sheared except for their heads which had been left with that teenage boy style of short sides and a perm on top.
I laughed at them so much they gave me the most terrifying and evil looks ever.
I am now slightly scared of alpacas/llamas.

Needmorelego · 21/10/2026 12:50

@vodkaredbullgirl not the best photo.
This one is more fluffy head.
Some of the others definitely had more curly perms.

My Dad used to walk his dog up to a field of Alpaca and back every day. They definitely helped him live to 90 as he had high blood pressure. I am sure they have a calming effect. They have gone now, which I find quite sad.

Needmorelego · 21/10/2026 12:53

My sister did a llama walk (where you essentially take one for a walk) for her 40th birthday.

RaggedRocks · 21/10/2026 12:59

After he died, periodically I would visit the Alpacas, because I thought that might be where his spirit might be.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/10/2026 13:00

There's 2 Alpaca walks near me, might have to book before they close next year.

CrystalSingerFan · 21/10/2026 13:16

A long time ago I was driving in one of wilder bits of the Lake District, though winding lanes and drystone walls, in thick fog. Suddenly I rounded a corner and there was a bunch of llamas in a field, looming out of the greyness.

I was so shocked at the unexpectedness that I nearly totalled the car. (Llamas were less common then.)

Perfidiousalbionn · 21/10/2026 13:19

Llamas are intelligent animals and are used to guard sheep, goats and chickens.

I think it's really obvious why the OP started the thread and has been so obnoxious. She took her children to a petting zoo and they had to wait their turn behind adults with no kids and made a fuss about having to queue. Then the OP started this thread expecting everyone to agree with her. And they haven't.

Of course queuing is part of British culture. I would have thought that @ExtraHotDoubleShot would have been delighted that her children were exposed to quintessential British culture so early.

Not all Llamas and alpacas are gentle!
Look up Elvis the twat at Rowhead farm!
He spits at small children 😂😂😂
He's amazing

Elvis The twat! 😆

This reminds me of the time my autistic teen by passed the dinosaur queue at Paultons Park to ride George's Dinosaur. I could actually feel the eyes burning into the back of my head. He looked like any other teenager but there's no way he would have coped that close to people in a queue and all he wanted to do was ride the dinosaur 🤷😂 He's an adult now and goes out on his own with his equality autistic girlfriend to do the exact thing you're complaining about.

Animals called Elvis are nutters. There's an emu at YWP called Elvis who thinks he's an ostrich and not an emu.

I was given a hen called Elvis by her previous owners and she objected to blackbirds entering the garden. She'd go barrelling down the lawn to chase them off (pre-bird flu era).

ThisCraftyAquaHedgehog · 21/10/2026 16:53

Thing is all these new fab places have opened up over the last 20 years and my partner and I didn't have children.
So we can never go or we can go just as a couple.

No reason for us not to go... other than small minded people who think somehow parents with children should get priority!

I have to say, one of my parents old neighbours (in the 1990s) had a Jack Russell called Elvis, and he was a vicious - and slightly bonkers animal too! 😆

Yes, we have quite a few in my county. On a few farms. They're lovely. 😊

You need to go to all these fab places.

And get there early so you can join the queues and experience everything.

Exactly! Definitely go. Smile Take no notice of the minority of judgy people who sneer at adults enjoying things that are apparently only for children!

Zov · 21/10/2026 17:51

So the thread is nearly full, and nearly 90% of almost 2000 people have voted to say the OP is being unreasonable, and the vast majority of posts say so too. She hasn't been on the thread since yesterday morning, so I think she must have finally accepted she was in the wrong. Nearly 1800 people out of almost 2000 saying YABU cannot all be wrong!

The poll is open for another 19 hours at the moment (even though the thread is nearly done,) but the % won't change I don't think. I suspect it will stay at 89% of people saying the OP is being unreasonable!

I know you are still reading @ExtraHotDoubleShot so maybe try and chill a little bit, loosen up, and accept that MANY adults like some things that children like. Smile And many are intelligent, educated, hard working adults. You will realise how unreasonable you are being (now,) when you're a bit older, and have a bit more life experience.

And please don't bring your children up with the same opinions as you. Let them enjoy their life, even when they're adults! Grin

Zov · 21/10/2026 17:51

Zov · 21/10/2026 17:51

THE END! All the best everyone!
