Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

I didn’t get the opportunity to go on the teacup rides, doesn’t mean I’m going to do it at 35!

I love the teacups, I genuinely feel sad for you that you have lost your sense of fun.

BeleagueredBride · 19/10/2026 13:22

The two pettiing zoos that I used to go to because one was on my regular walk and one was near my friend’s house have both now decreed that adults can only accompany children so I am no longer allowed to go in!

Admittedly I wouldn’t necessarily have gone out of my way to go to one but I don’t see an adult visiting one is inherently bad.

IsaKnows · 19/10/2026 13:22

I work in a really serious job, dealing with difficult heavy themes. Also have caring responsibilities for a disabled child and elderly disabled parent.

You’re damn right I’m gonna spend my free time doing daft whimsical things. Theme park rides, log flumes, feeding grass to a guinea pig. Bring it on. It’s called escapism. The weans can wait their turn.

In the same way I hope you would find a grown adults on a peppa pig ride by themselves a bit silly, it’s for kids.

Peppa pig is a kids’ cartoon.
animals are for all ages, no?

Fucking hell... "adult pursuits" like watercolours and Chelsea flower show 😂

Does it matter what other people enjoy?

"Adult pursuits"? Watercolours were not the first thing that occurred to me. (And I am a (bad) amateur watercolourist.)

And what, precisely, is wrong with being a bit silly every now and then? Being an adult is hard. It's OK to have fun every now and then you know

I do agree. It's more just observing that the numbers have increased dramatically. Particularly for people in 30s-40s who don't appear to have any children (which is fine). It's just observing how society has changed. I definitely don't think the teacups, merry go round, steam train etc should just be children only. But if it becomes majority adult it changes the feel of it all dramatically, I've seen it happen.

Does it work the other way too? e.g. under 16s at gigs sitting with their ear defenders on, dancing in the aisles and obscuring adults views? No? Thought not.

That is brilliant. I used to love going to comic cons. Great fun for all ages.

YABU. Those adult entrance tickets are subsidising your child's ticket price.

Animals are not just for kids.

Since covid children rarely get any discounts now. Sometimes only 50p to £1 off the full ticket price at best.

cartagenagina · 19/10/2026 13:24

Completeme · 19/10/2026 13:21

But why do you think animals are for kids? No-one has ever said this. Peppa Pig is a children’s cartoon character. Goats aren’t

Exactly.

You do seem quite bitter and negative OP. Instead of wasting time wondering why people like animals, maybe focus on improving your mindset.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 19/10/2026 13:25

What about zoos and safari parks OP? Do you think they are only for families with kids?

SabrinaBricklayer · 19/10/2026 13:25

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:50

It’s a childish activity. It seems to be in the wider picture of adults acting like kids.

I hope adults never lose the joy of seeing animals. What a sad world you seem to want when joy in stroking an animal is childish.

Franjipanl8r · 19/10/2026 13:25

Do you have zero business sense? If there’s a market for adults visiting petting zoos then the petting zoos will bloody well be selling adult tickets!

Goanyersel Isa!

Yup. I get it. I was working and a carer for two disabled adults at one point. You need your down time.

I had a lovely watercolour set. It was a 10th birthday present.

Nevermind the tea cups, just try and keep me away from a zip wire, or climbing on bales of straw. Oh, and the dressups room in stately homes!

It's not that it matters, it's interesting to observe these societal changes.

Because it encourages them to infantilise themselves. We’re adults for gods sake 😂

You sound fun

Thanks for the explanation. I was a bit mystified. (Going to a Star Trek con is on my bucket list....)

I don't have a rabbit, or know anyone who does, so I would absolutely wait in line to hold one.
I pay my entrance fee like anyone else. I can do the same experiences.

I have a rabbit, its bloody antisocial. I go to petting farms to stroke someone else's more companionable rabbit.

ImNotAmOnlyFan · 19/10/2026 13:28

Have you considered that the younger generation are making different choices to how we all did at that age, I.e, more likely to go to the gym, choose not to drink etc - as such choose wholesome days out such as you describe. They’re not only for kids days out nor do you own them as a mother…
