Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

No

Sure you don't

I find it really petulant towards small children. But ok!

Petulant? I wait in line. I don't get mad about it. Kids can wait too and get their turn. It is vital you teach your kids that.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:55

Because it encourages them to infantilise themselves. We’re adults for gods sake 😂

By your logic, only kids should have pets.

Did you not have a pet?

I didn’t get the opportunity to go on the teacup rides, doesn’t mean I’m going to do it at 35!

I did go on teacup rides as a child, I still enjoy them as an adult (obviously not the tiny kid sized ones).

Since you're so gracious to allow for disabilities, just assume they're autistic and animals are their special interest. But either way, maybe just accept that people like things and are allowed to take part regardless of your feelings on the subject.

Everydayimhuffling · 19/10/2026 12:57

You need more joy in your life, OP! I suggest finding some ways to have fun instead of judging others for finding joy.

Also, you are using petulant wrong

Yes, it’s childish. I would feel silly making a 4 year old wait so I could hold a rabbit. I’m a grown woman!

I like rabbits.
I live in a flat so can't exactly keep one as a pet.
I love popping into Pets at Home to see some. If I had chance to give one a stroke.... then I am going to.
I say hello to every cat I pass in the street (and a stroke if the cat is up for it).
I say hello to dogs I pass in the street too.
I one said hello to a guinea pig that was in a carrier at a train station.
I also chat to the squirrels in the park.
Guess that makes me a very childish 51 year old.
Oh well.

Nobody else is queuing to hold a personal pet

I’m getting two kittens today. I must be very childish.

Holding a rabbit is not infantilising. It is just that... holding an animal.

FTMJul26 · 19/10/2026 12:57

I can’t believe we’re not allowed on the teacups either now lol

MyLifeInBooks · 19/10/2026 12:58

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:50

It’s a childish activity. It seems to be in the wider picture of adults acting like kids.

Did you get out of bed on the wrong side?
I love animals, I love petting them. When DC were little, I went with them feeding the goats and I had all sorts of creatures sitting on my lap or in my hands (tarantula anyone?).
We don't have pets, soo going to a petting zoo or farm this is the closest I get to having one.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 19/10/2026 12:58

Our local petting zoo has regular adults only nights.

Its on my to do list.

They should queue… behind other kids

No adults did this when I was younger. They watched, like adults should!

There’s a miniature donkey place near me that does adult only sessions because they recognise that adults like stroking donkeys too! I went along to one and it was great as I didn’t have to feel obliged to let the kids do all the petting and stand back!

There is no rule that petting animals is only for little kids.

It’s mostly adults who own and pet cats and dogs. You’re being ridiculous.

abathofmilkwithladydi · 19/10/2026 12:59

So if you don’t have children you’re not allowed to go to farms or zoos or safari parks or theme parks or basically anywhere where children may be going to have to wait to take a turn on something?

I mean when there’s limited spaces as part of an activity, it’s a bit sad and selfish for an adult to take a place when a kid is waiting

Maybe you just knew the wrong adults.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 19/10/2026 12:59

The endorphins from stuff like this is good for mental health.

Maybe you should try it OP. Might improve your mood.

Stop being miserable, find your inner child.

Theres a farm I follow online, they have 1.5m followers, those are not all children, lots of people with no link to farming just enjoy seeing animals being well cared for and their antics.

Goatinthegarden · 19/10/2026 13:00

I actually avoid petting zoos because of the children.

If they had adults only opening times, I’d totally go and stroke a goat.

Maybe they should restrict the times children can go….

DebbieSavage · 19/10/2026 13:00

You should try going to DisneyLand, my kids can't even get on any rides without 40 year old men and women with mickey mouse ears plastered to their bonce clogging up the lines and getting in the way of all the exhibits.

Little Johnny will have to wait his turn then, won’t he?

TeaDrinkings · 19/10/2026 13:00

Wow. The entitlement.
I bet you let your kids run amok in pubs and other such "adult" premises.
Your kids will have to wait.

dizzydizzydizzy · 19/10/2026 13:01

Well I hadn’t noticed but it’s a simple pleasure and I’d rather see young adults stroking rabbits than smoking on street corners or getting drunk.
