Do you agree?

Dd when she finished her bowl of pomegranate seeds on the sofa asked Dh to go and put it in the kitchen please. Each time this happens or she asks for a drink/snack, he says she should take it back herself etc. I tend to do it mostly for her, she's very independent, always has been, sorts her own school bag, homework, showers etc, but she's still only young and it's not too much that a parent brings her food and drinks, is it?!

Dh and I disagree a little on this

How much do you do for your 8 year old (or around that age)?

You're her mum, not her servant. She should take her own plate to the kitchen.

Thegirlwhowent · Yesterday 21:30

It sounds like you're encouraging her to treat you as her servants.

Hummingbird233 · Yesterday 21:33

Not taking her bowl to the kitchen herself is just lazy. Yes she’s young, but your job is to teach her, you’re not helping her by allowing her to treat you all as skivvies.

How about breakfast's at this age, do you all make or do they sort themselves?

Honestly, I think asking another person to do something that you can easily do yourself smacks of entitlement. You might find it quite sweet but it's actually little things like this that I think end up with children coming across as quite bratty.

I'm not engaging as you're obviously not a nice person with all the comments. There's no need for it, find some happiness in your life.

Any over 5 sort cereal for themselves. Toast by about 7 or 8

My 6 year old gets his own breakfast (toast, cereal or sometimes yoghurt and berries) each morning whilst DH is supervising in the kitchen.

At weekends one of us will often sort it whilst making our own but he doesn't expect it. This is quite normal amongst his peers.

There's not much to improve, it's no big problem, but thanks 👍

People eat pomegranates. I thought it was just something people do so they spend the rest of the evening and the next month picking the seeds out of their teeth.

No op it's kinda normal a child takes it's bowl back to the kitchen and puts it in the bowl to wash up... certainly at 8. My dd has been doing that since a toddler but no pomegranate just orange, kiwi, crops, popcorn and cake. ...

Gremlins101 · Yesterday 21:43

Mine are 4 and 6 and I expect them to bring their plates back in after a snack, unless I'm pottering about anyway. They are expected to hang up coats, put shoes tidy, help lay table, put plates in dishwasher (especiallythe 6 year old). Of course they need reminding. I think it's great for self esteem to be able to participate in tasks.

😂 Tiffs are not really a big deal and the benchmark is not that low. I do feel that you are making much more out of it and your faux shock at just how'Weird' it is, is strange.
But again, I should not give in to your attempts at trying to very obviously get a rise out of me for no reason, which is also very odd.
Have a good evening.

They are quite high in oestrogen and I would imagine poster is possible suggesting that an 8 year old girl probably doesn’t need the boost…surely quite a lot/v regular consumption would be required to have an effect?

Ahh really? had no idea. She was intrigued as her friend had them as a school snack, I was happy to get, although I don't bother with them as it's just annoying with the seeds

It depends what they are having. Cereal and toast they will do them selves if they want egg i will make it but they usually help like cracking the egg or helping flip it. ( they want to help i don't ask them to)

I think the problem is she is asking someone to take away her dirty plate rather than someone takes it because they want to or are going by.

Asking him if he was getting up can you please also take my plate fine.

Asking her dad to get up and take her dirty plate because she cnba she should be told to take it herself.

This.

If one person is leaving the living room, and another asks 'Can you take this please?' = Fine, whoever is asking or being asked

8 yr old expecting adult to get up from what they are doing / where they are relaxing, just to take a bowl or plate they have finished with to another room = ridiculous. As a pp said, in this house they would be being asked what their last servant died of.

Error404FucksNotFound · Yesterday 21:49

Maybe need to teach her the difference between asking for a favour when someone's up themselves, and asking someone seated next to you to get up for you.

Eg if her dad was getting up anyway to go to the kitchen, its appropriate to say while you're up, would you mind taking this please...

Both sat curled up on the sofa then not so much.

After meals my 3 year old daughter has to put her cutlery on her plate/bowl and bring it from the table to the sink/dishwasher so…. Yeah, your 8 y/o should be up to the task
