What it is about television, or is it patriarchy, or what, that these vile people are promoted and lauded and become so popular?

Why do we (or is it other men) like loud-mouthed, narcissistic, vile people?

David Walliams was another one. Star guest at every show bizz event, his terrible children’s books were published and praised, hob-knobbed with the rich and famous?

Why? Anyone with half a brain could see they were hideous from the very beginning of their careers. It baffles and worries me in equal measure why people like this are still promoted.

And agree, I find Jonathan Ross equally unpleasant.

Darlingx · Today 02:59

I am holding his employers more to account because of all the people who are lauded why is it such corrupt broken ones where are the decent talented role models instead we get these sleazy court Jesters its so hard to break into Television or entertainment and all the fame and priviledge that comes with that and the huge wealth. The Devil does indeed crap on the biggest heap if this is what the media culture is offering us. He wouldn’t have has access to most of those women if he wasn’t put in such a lauded and privileged position and those who don’t make it clearly were too clean a slate with no contra to reprise down the line.

He seems to have been another useful idiot in the culture who was befouling young women even at one point he was circling political dynasties of the Goldsmith and a cult following where he often hinted about having his own cult rather than worshipping I believe he thought he was some kind of messiah who could start his own religion or at least drink his own kool Aid .
I met some women who had encoutered him one had him notched on her sexual adventures list and it grimly sounded like a turnstile. It surprises me why women want to be in such a catch all ? His Casanova image fell flat when he was dressed like Bin Laden 🫣🫠 in a loin cloth didn’t look like much to notch to me?
I hope the women who need closure get justice because he was allowed into the Culture of the higher ups and you have to wonder what we are looking up to in the minds of the fame cult.

Sorry crosspost talk about thinking along the same lines Couldn’t agree more and there is a distinct pattern of questionable morals that seems to be the emblem of adoration ? I am now cynical of what the culture offers us as Talent

Great post. Sleazy court jesters is the perfect description.

I’m not sure I’d describe RB as a useful idiot though. I think he is more malevolent and intentional then that. But I don’t know how the inner machinations of the tv industry work and I agree that there appears to be something very rotten at the core of it.

Sorry, I just cross posted too!

Couldn’t agree more. Is it as simple as tv being run by thirty to forty year old men? And women not having as much say in the scheduling?

Or is it that the camera’s eye has always been exploitative? And it corrupts the objects it surveys?

I have never understood why entertainers are so vaunted and valued in our culture when there are so many other more valuable professions. Why do we afford them such high status in the first place?

And why are we meant to adore in particular the rule-breakers, the charmers, the ones with swagger, the braggers, the ones who are
“getting away with it”?

They make my stomach turn quite frankly. And I agree about the questionable morals and how somehow anything goes for a cheap laugh or higher ratings.

Darlingx · Today 03:31

There are so many talented young people who are probably never going to make it believing they haven’t got what it takes Thankfully it seems!
Luckily we don’t know the inside track because it seems a lot of looking the other way for the sake of your career . What annoys me is we are being sold this idea constantly that is questionable but if its in the Hall of fame its allowed wholesale

People are sometimes falsely accused.

I'm not a fan, but we can't just decide he's guilty because he looks like he needs a good wash and is irritating/arrogant.

Agree with this. I’m not a fan of him or seen anything he’s been in to my knowledge. How is thread allowed when he’s on trial? Thought we weren’t allowed to comment.

I am again Cross posting because my thoughts are in Tandem .
They was a brillant quote someone said about creating Chaos so that lines get blurred basically we don’t want an even playing field so you constantly create Chaos as in those with Swagger the Pirates who will steal and change the narrative to suit their needs.
All its about is not having an even playing field because then there would I suppose be enough of the abundance for all. For everyone to have a decent standard of living but if you have Chaos creators in Media in Politics in the Sexual liberation you create the Chaos to keep the playing field uneven.

Yeah why IS that? Hmm

Brand is a first class vile creep. He's giving Gary Glitter vibes. Arrogant and creepy, probably blames the girls/women.

Why on earth is his girlfriend standing by him? Vom.

There's a video on YouTube of Russell Brand in his early days (RE: Brand - Episode 7 - Wanky Wanky), and it's hard to believe this aired on TV, let alone is on YouTube. Not only does he get his genitals out on camera (this is why I'm surprised YouTube didn't ban it), he jerks off a guy in a toilet... If he's not gay, and doing this stuff on camera, goodness only knows what he got up to without the cameras rolling.

Lhori · Today 06:33

I always found his popularity completely mystifying. A long time ago, I was blocked by an acquaintance of mine because I expressed a negative opinion about Russell Brand. That person must be really upset by how their hero has turned out.

Me neither.
I can’t see what Katy Perry or Laura Gallagher saw/see in him.
He spoke highly of his mother. What a shame she wasn’t able to instil in him respect for

Don’t forget Jemima Goldsmith too!!

So many of the vile men listed in this thread employed and promoted by the BBC: Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross, David Walliams; John Peel, Huw Edwards, Jimmy Saville, etc.

I think it’s unfair to lump JR in with these others. The Andrew Sachs granddaughter incident was appalling and poorly judged. I imagine he regretted it immensely as a father of daughters not just because of the consequences.

I’ve had minor dealings with him. He was lovely and generous in a way that he didn’t need to be (and didn’t bring him any benefit).

I watched a documentary about him after it all came out about what he’d done. There was some footage of him just wearing underpants in a busy street and he stood there urinating in them. It was before he became famous and they said it was a publicity stunt to get noticed. A bloke nearby shouted something at him like “you’re fucking sick!” Or words to that effect. They also showed some clips of his stand up. Really disgusting sexist misogynistic jokes about having sex with women.

Yeah, I went to see his stand up show when he visited our local theatre (years ago). He came across as very intelligent/eloquent but also rather vile when he literally invited any ladies who were interested to meet him in his dressing room after the show 🤮

To be fair, I personally did find him very funny, eloquent (and quite attractive back in the day)....but yes he's creep inducing to me now

I always thought he was unintelligent underneath the cocky BS and creepy. I had met his type quite a bit in real life though.

Then he's not repulsive or unattractive...

I personally believe Donald Trump is repulsive and unattractive.

But women have slept with and married him. It doesn’t change my opinion that he is repulsive and unattractive.

You seem to be confusing women sharing a personal opinion with women making a claim on behalf of all women.

Women aren’t a monolith, we are individual people with individual opinions.

Longtermmuser · Today 07:46

Some men, when you find out they are a vile sex pest rapist, you are surprised. Russell Brand is not one of those men.

Has he claimed he “suffers” from sex addiction yet? If he hasn’t, he soon will.

Yes he's been claiming to be a sex addict for years. Probably in preparation for the inevitable rape trial.

Appalled that's it's a majority male jury. That should never be allowed in a rape trial imo. I hope those women get justice but I won't hold my breath in a country where boys are free to stab girls and go unpunished.

Yes dont beat yourself up..he wa one of those charismatic personalities (apparently 😂)

interested to ask you what you think of hm now? Does he appear creepy to you now?

What do I think of him now? With the allegations plus all the 'turning to God' and 'I'm a better person now'? Absolute scumbag, grifting charlatan and creepy as hell. (If you want to amuse yourself for a couple of minutes find the video of him looking for a Bible passage on Piers Morgan - hilarious.)

UncleColm · Today 08:11

I remember when he did the after show for Big Brother...he used to walk amongst the audience and really invade their personal space. Like draping himself over women or rubbing against them...it would all be presented as 'a bit of fun' but even back then I thought ughhh.....

Greenmouldycheese · Today 08:12

I find it odd that he was given awards for shagger of the year because he was sleeping with so many, praised. How times have changed. Goes to show the media have the power to influence how people thunk. He always seemed like a kind man to me in every show he did. Ive not followed this case, so I'd rather wait for the verdict and evidence.

Rationally, I know that a major plank of English Common Law is the right to trial and innocent until proven guilty but I'm slightly questioning why there has to be a trial for this: of course he did it; they wouldn't have accused him for no reason. Maybe the trial is just to determine how bad RB really has been and thus to decide the length/severity of his sentence?

I must admit, I have judged him guilty. It’s wrong to do so but I genuinely think there has been too much smoke for there to be no fire.
The trial is for him to defend himself and he will likely love it and grandstand all the way.

Urgh really???🤮I must admit I did have a bit of a thing for him in the days of Big Brother’s Big Mouth. And I even had his first book. It was pathetic really as at the start of the book he talks about when he was in some sort of sex clinic as he was a sex addict. I tried reading it but I got bored as I thought he was just being childish and bragging. I lent the book to my friend having never read it and I wasn’t bothered. Over the years I just went off him and that was before the accusations came out.

Cloverleafygreen · Today 08:19

If he’s guilty he’s not the only one /seems like a lot of this these days.
