If I could ban one type of thread from this website…

… It would be one's asking about trousers on flights.

Bearing in mind I've been on here over 20 years, Lived through all the baby pasta, the baby modelling threads and all that crap, that yet this one never dies.

I think it's more than even mother of a bride theme because more people are obsessed with what trousers to wear sitting down for a few hours.
What type of thread always makes you roll your eyes?

(Special points for people who say threats like the one we're on now, very good well done 😃)

I've never seen one about trousers on flights and been on here for 21 years!!! For me it would be any goady posts that get loads of response and then deleted after 12 hours or so as the poster 'is not what they seem'.

They appear with tedious regularity. All these posters who want to look "stylish" at airports and on flights. Nobody looks stylish at airports or on flights. It's a completely pointless question.

Wear something that isn't tight fitting , with layers that can be removed or added for temperature control , and that you don't care if it gets crumpled or food or drink split on it.

The ones nominating their favourite posters or schmoozing up to MN staff like they are the head girl. Both nauseating and quite sad. Its a business, they dont give a shit, they are not doing it because they luv you.

Screamingabdabz · Today 16:53

The ones that start by saying “let me start by saying I love my wife…”

… and you know immediately it’s some insufferable arse of a bloke moaning about not enough sex.

The back story is ALWAYS that his poor wife is probably knackered, as they always have young kids, (and probably has major ick from his oblivious needy-sex-pest personality).

There needs to be an automatic warning message sent out to his wife for these ones.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · Today 16:54

Any thread with Person A and Person B, who is friends with Person C.... just say who they are!

Any thread where the OP refers to their DC repeatedly as "they" instead of just he or she. It's hardly outing now, is it?

AutumnsFinallyHere · Today 16:54

People tripping over themselves to be the first to announce someone famous has died. Often end up with about four different threads about it.

There was one of them just last week, pathetic.

All the transphobic ones, including those where the underlying message is one of transphobia but the OP is pretending otherwise.

Edited

I have a love hate relationship with those. I find them very entertaining to read but at the same time I find the hard line views that have no wiggle room for the slightest bit of flexibility very concerning. I used to live next door to a trans couple - lovely pair. They are just people like the rest of us and would hate anyone to be mean to them.

WokeUpEarlyWalkedTheDog · Today 16:55

Can’t be arsed to edit but I knew … KNEW… I should have added ‘unless you’re Irish’. I get that completely. I’m from an Irish family (and present ‘Will I put the kettle on’ as evidence!).

That said, it ain’t regional if you’re from London, South East, North East, East Anglia, etc etc etc. It makes people sound dim and surely none of you are? 😉

Crumbelina · Today 16:55

Any thread where the person says "bare with me" in their OP.

DrMadelineMaxwell · Today 16:56

The ones where someone races to be the first to post that someone famous has died.

My favourite one was years ago and it was about where you put the fruit bowl as a class signifier. Lots of "Everyone knows posh people like me have it in the sitting room because they eat lots of healthy fruit", "Ekshelly, you'll find we have it in the kitchen because it's so huge and that is where food belongs, it is chavvy to have it on show elsewhere" and "Well I am a duchess and we just go into whichever of our orchards has what we are looking for and get the maidservant to pull it off the tree after we have selected the one we want" and all that.

🤣🤣🤣

When someone posts to ask if anyone has ever done something or been somewhere really commonplace like “Has anyone been to Tenerife at half term”. I always resist replying that no, literally no one has ever been to Tenerife at half term.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · Today 16:58

The “how do people afford X” and the drip feed is always the OP is a SAHM married with school age children to a man on £35k and she absolutely can’t work just incase the kids need picking early up once ever 17th Thursday

AdaBlackjack · Today 16:58

No. I won't even if I knew exactly what the OP is looking for

Similar are grief vultures who want to be the first to tell everyone how devastated they are about some horrible disturbing murder case in the current news. It’s ten times worse if a child is involved, then they’re desperate for us to know they’ll be “hugging their little ones extra tight tonight”. Nauseating.

Shinebrightb · Today 16:59

The posters who have £3000 a month left after paying all their bills and ask ‘is it enough to live on each month’ 🙄

Disasterclass · Today 17:00

Virtually all of the royal family ones. Particularly those slagging off Harry and Megan. I can understand if it’s about a misuse of tax payers money or someone’s done something dodgy, but otherwise if you don’t like them why give a shit what country they live in or where their kids go to school?

SabrinaBricklayer · Today 17:00

I would ban the ones that say ‘Discuss’ like some bossy school mistress, without even adding anything to the OP themselves.

Yes! "Line eyes" and "nub theory" threads were so relentless when I was pregnant that I didn't engage with the pregnancy topic on Mumsnet at all.

"How do people afford X/Y/Z?"

They have more money than you. That's it.

Isn't the answer to leggings always NO?!!!

Apart from sobbing around the house and long haul flights, yes.

Naurrr · Today 17:03

I have loads of topics hidden, but apart from those..
•the threads where a man shits out an entire dissertation whining how he's unfuckable.

•an OP listing how their child is currently being abused and traumatised, but the OP is only interested in dumping some replies in about another thing her bloke did, and another thing. Not interested in any replies. (Distressing to read and often no hint of it in the title, to warn any victims of CA)

•'I chose to date a man who is a shit parent to his kids, then moved him in and now, predictably, my life is hell. No, I won't change anything at all about this.'

•Shouid I date this absolute predator? He's called me names, is in debt and has 10 kids by 13 women 😍 I will only reply to defend what a catch he is, thanks.

•600 replies all saying 'just say no'

•Plop and run, no replies from the OP

I've never been to Aldi/Lidl before, what should I buy?

Whatever you fancy, I don't know what you like and it's just a supermarket.
