If I could ban one type of thread from this website…

… It would be one's asking about trousers on flights.

Bearing in mind I've been on here over 20 years, Lived through all the baby pasta, the baby modelling threads and all that crap, that yet this one never dies.

I think it's more than even mother of a bride theme because more people are obsessed with what trousers to wear sitting down for a few hours.
What type of thread always makes you roll your eyes?

(Special points for people who say threats like the one we're on now, very good well done 😃)

One of my huge peeves, it's creeping in everywhere

Actually that's an Irish thing. They always use the opposite version of bring and take.

tulippa · Today 16:19

The 'guess who I've just seen', 'guess what I had for breakfast', 'guess something no-one will have the faintest clue about' ones followed by pages of guessing and the OP giving the occasional 'nope' or 'close'. I really couldn't care less.

JeatherLacket · Today 16:19

My own topical nomination is any thread about putting the heating on

How is anyone interested in randomers heating arrangements, switch it in when you feel the need for heaven's sake

MrsPapillon · Today 16:20

Any whereby someone is making a huge song and dance about a very trivial, easily-solvable problem that just necessitates them opening their mouths.

Eg. ‘I want to go to Greece on holiday but now DH has mentioned he fancies Gran Canaria and I don’t know what to do”. Have you told him you don’t fancy Gran Canaria and you’ve been looking at Greece? “Erm, no. We haven’t actually had a conversation about it yet”

Well that’s obviously your first port of call. 🙄

Id be amazed if everyone using it is Irish, the population isn't big enough for that 😂

Onefairfish · Today 16:20

What trousers to wear on flights???!!! Now there is a dilemma I never knew was one.

TheBluebird · Today 16:20

I've been on here 19 years and never seen a trousers on flights thread.

I'd ban MIL threads.

Bonjovispjs · Today 16:21

The guess how old I am threads.

hattie43 · Today 16:21

I wish politics would stay in the political topic and not flood AIBU and chat .

ChocHotolate · Today 16:21

“Has anyone got this cold”
OMG, I just hate these threads. The assumption that anyone could possibly know if they had the same virus as anyone else??
I get that some may just want some sympathy or a kind word but I would happily block all of these threads

ThatCyanCat · Today 16:22

I dislike the ones where OP starts a thread to congratulate themselves on not doing or having something they disapprove of and sneer at anyone who does (anything from Botox and designer handbags to trying to work through a marriage after an affair) but pretends they are coming at it with good faith and just want to discuss it. Usually by claiming they are just trying to understaaaaand, and then steadfastly refusing to accept any kind of explanation to help them understaaaaand, because of course the purpose of the thread is anything but to understaaaaand.

HeddaGarbled · Today 16:22

The weekly “posters are mean” threads.

CleverlyBeery · Today 16:23

Weird as I've been on here for a stupidly long time and have never clicked on or seen any thread about trousers on a flight!

I'd ban any OP complaining about something that's happened, that's a stream of unpunctuated conscience with salient details left out and very unclear what the issue is. Everyone just assumes, projects and argues for pages then the OP never comes back Grin

WokeUpEarlyWalkedTheDog · Today 16:15

Any where the OP or subsequent posters use ‘bring’ instead of ‘take’.

Exhibit A: ‘Should I bring my husband with me when I go to the hospital?’ TAKE! Should I TAKE my husband.

Exhibit B: ‘My husband is refusing to bring me to the hospital’. TAKE!! He’s refusing to TAKE YOU.

Exhibit C: ‘You should get your husband to bring you to the hospital’. TAKE!!! He should TAKE YOU to an event in the FUTURE.

Oh. That feels good. Thanks OP for bringing this up 😉

Bring as an alternative to take is derived from Irish
(Gaeilig) grammatical rules rather than English or American ones. It’s standard in Ireland.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · Today 16:24

All the fishing expeditions about "touchstones of Englishness" and such.
Wank off.

scotsmumofteens · Today 16:25

Posts linking a current news event / like the tragic death of the man at the wildlife park. All the speculation drives me nuts and posters start bickering . Just seems so insensitive to me I really hate these types of posts :(

FancyPantsThatArentThatFancy · Today 16:26

Humblebrag crap where OP describes a situation where they did something noble and wonderful for humanity and then fish for a round of applause by saying something like “was lil ol’ me wrong to save the baby from the burning pushchair????”

Or if they post a picture of a professional looking cake/dress/oil painting that they, the plucky amateur that they be, just created and are we all suitably impressed with their efforts.

Besidemyselfwithworry · Today 16:26

The ones where people post of photo of their new hair cut or the in an outfit wanting everyone to say “oh you look fabulous”

yawn

iCod · Today 16:27

Oh, I love the passport ones because there's an air of peril

OP posts:
mondaytosunday · Today 16:27

Potty shots and nub theory posts.

I kind of like those threads when the finished product is actually shit, as they often are. I don't say they're shit though.

oh God, I also love those because of the innate vanity

OP posts:

All the transphobic ones, including those where the underlying message is one of transphobia but the OP is pretending otherwise.

Aw totally agree, if the thing is actually shite that’s comedy gold.

iCod · Today 16:28

I love the AMA ones when it's something really boring and they think it's exceptional

like "I like sausages AMA".

chuckling to myself.
