Women on Mumsnet

I'm on maternity leave and have been using Mumsnet since the beginning of my leave.
I have been quite shocked at the way that women speak to one another on this platform. For context I'm 38 and was dragged up by older brother so throughout my life have often been quite blokey for want of a better word. In my 20's and 30's due to my work I have worked with people often quite a lot younger than me, and the best thing I have learnt from the younger women is non judgement and to raise each other up! It's been wonderful. I'm so thankful that my line of work enables me to be able to learn from younger generations ( I'm not suggesting they don't have faults, they can also be overtly judgemental, but when it comes to this one topic I find them great) their bringing up of women is truly fab!
So I guess it's
Yanbu- women on Mumsnet seem to appear quite harsh/ haven't learnt to raise each other up yet!
Aibu- women on Mumsnet feel they are in a safe space so say exactly how they feel no matter if it seems harsh or not.

Haven’t read any of the replies but I find the women on Mumsnet to be rude, keyboard warriors who sit at home with absolutely nothing else to do but to pick the vulnerabilities of other women who have the courage to post asking for help on this site.

Vicious and condescending towards other women, who have reached their last resort to speak out anonymously albeit publicly.

And the whole LTB culture? A woman with children can’t just get up and leave? There are other needs to consider. It’s not a decision that can be made straightaway and there are so many things to consider before leaving is

No one should be thinking that MN is a 'safe space', ever. It is not.

I’d definitely find people on here so much meaner than they were ten years ago but then sadly that’s real life too- less patience, people not bothered to be diplomatic and just so much anger and bitterness

I’m not sure all tthe ‘you are amazing’ lift people up stuff is always that genuine - I have a desk in a business centre but in a casual environment and I do hear an awful lot of ‘you go hun’ type conversations- only to hear an hour later same person gossiping and bitching to another - often quite young women too - think the thing on MN is there are a fair amount of us who’ve been round the block by late 40s onwards- and tend to be more genuine and honest - some I admit almost to the point of picking a fight for the sake of it - but there really is a lot of good here, people helping each other with honesty rather than platitudes -

Cripes don't go anywhere near gransnet then @OsfameronTanamoril, if you think it's bad on here. I am a Nana as well as mom obviously.

I couldn't ado with the majority of the women on Gransnet. I stuck it out for a couple of years thinking it's just me. I couldn't take it any longer and closed my account.

The whining, bitching and complaining about everything especially DiLs was unbelievable

Yes it is nice if people (no not just women) support and or help wach other but those fake all women are beautiful people who are saints and need to be told thry are perfect and wonderful it weird

Why are women to be treated as one collective brain, women are not some precious delicate little creatures, there are good and bad women and men

In a perfect world no issues would ever happen and everyone would be treated respectfully because that is what should happem, life is not like that so why would mn be any different

Nobody has to ‘raise each other up’ just because they happen to be the same sex. If someone’s being unreasonable or twattish or offensive, they don’t get a free pass from me because we’re both women.

Same. It's not my responsibility to "raise women up" just because they're women. I'll criticise or challenge them if I think their posts warrant it and support them if I want to - because they're people, not because they're women.

I have been on mumsnet for years. My kids are now both over 30.
It used to be a lovley place with great support, people would really contect and help each other.
Now l just read the forums when I'm bored and can't sleep, people are obviously out for an argument, and some of them dont seem to have any reading compression, but l think you can get support on tbe smaller borads.

It’s not exclusive to older women, either.
