Colin is not a birthday cake

Tomorrow our younger daughter is 24. I would love to have the energy to make her a cake but I’m running on fumes and have been for months.

I gave my husband one job. Go buy her a birthday cake. He sent me a photograph Colin. I said no, there is only one time a year she can have a cake with happy birthday written on it. Would you believe such a thing does not exist at our nearest M&S!

Her older sister has come to the rescue, she’s gone to Sainsbury’s.

YABU Colin is the gold standard shop bought cake

YANBU Colin is an any time of year cake

Ah that's nice, you're a charmer I'll say that 😘

And your comment calling people weird for celebrating was charming?!

Makebelieveanotherlife · Yesterday 13:55

To me it looks like a giant poo and i can’t unsee it 🤣

BumpyaDaisyevna · Yesterday 13:56

I got a Colin from my colleagues at work and was thrilled!

I’ve learned on mn - some adults are fucking weird about birthdays. I assume they don’t have friends or family who celebrate with them so they put others down to make themselves feel better/normal.

Don’t be disrespectful to Colin.

Didn't call any people weird.

Connie is the female version. My DD had one for her 23rd this year.

(I'm usually too tight to buy one).

My youngest daughter was 21 a few months ago and wanted a Colin cake and ended up with two next to each other with 10 candles each and one up his arse - she was made up (she won’t let me post the pic on here)

Colin (and Wiggles, Cuthbert, Cecil, Letty, Slinky, Connie, etc) are all most definitely birthday cake IMO. One of these makes an appearance at every household birthday. And we’re all adults.

I generally eat the feet and the face Blush. The best bits. Perfect birthday cake op.

Edited to add: we actually had a Colin caterpillar cake at my Dad’s funeral. His name was Colin and the cake is very tasty.

I've just had a Colin delivered to my 23 yr old
son for his birthday tomorrow!!!!

Grammarnut · Yesterday 14:12

I'd prefer something more enterprising than a Colin. Sainsbury's birthday cake will be fine. Colin's are usually chocolate anyway, which I don't like much.

kombuchabucha · Yesterday 14:14

I'm a firm believer in a homemade cake and have never purchased a birthday cake from a shop, but I saw many a Colin at parties I attended as a child and my kids have received mini Colins in party bags before. He's a birthday cake.

I find it very weird that adults celebrate birthdays like children, as if they're a big thing. An adult expecting a big fuss on their birthday, bizarre. Like American adults drinking out of straws.

Edited

How sad. I love to be able to celebrate the people who I love most on their birthday. Its a huge privilege to be able to do so and a good reason for a lovely family or friends time together. Even better with Colin, the King of cakes.

SweetnsourNZ · Yesterday 14:17

Ha. I even know what Colin is and I haven't been to UK in 55 years. It must be a great tasting cake.

IsItWickedNotToCare · Yesterday 14:18

Definitely not over rated, he's gorgeous!

Mossyfox · Yesterday 14:19

It's a nice for anytime cake. And that includes birthdays. He's a national treasure imho.

Monty36 · Yesterday 14:20

I thought that is what Colin was. A birthday cake.

shuggles · Yesterday 14:23

@BeMintFatball I wish I had so much head space, and such a trouble-free life, that I could get annoyed at the suggestion of Colin the Caterpillar being used as a birthday cake.

BigMommasHouse · Yesterday 14:24

I would be delighted to have a Colin cake for my birthday. Much nicer than other non-home made cakes.

CrazyMidget · Yesterday 14:28

Why are you dissing Colin?

BatsInHibernation · Yesterday 14:29

rubyslippers · Yesterday 11:55

Colin is 10000% a birthday cake
I’ve never eaten it on any other occasion

Colin is tasty.
Occasionally I have found a 70% off Colin and then I have eaten him on an average non-birthday day

diddl · Yesterday 14:32

I don't think that having a cake on your birthday is celebrating like a child or making it a big thing.

We'll all have cake on our birthdays for as many years as we wish.

CrazyMidget · Yesterday 14:35

Mookie81 · Yesterday 11:58

And his bumhole! 😂
He is 100% a birthday cake, my group of friends get each the birthday girl a Colin every birthday.

Colin has a bumhole????

dh280125 · Yesterday 14:35

I have Colin for every birthday. And for my wedding (giant one!) DO NOT dis Colin!
