Colin is not a birthday cake

Tomorrow our younger daughter is 24. I would love to have the energy to make her a cake but I’m running on fumes and have been for months.

I gave my husband one job. Go buy her a birthday cake. He sent me a photograph Colin. I said no, there is only one time a year she can have a cake with happy birthday written on it. Would you believe such a thing does not exist at our nearest M&S!

Her older sister has come to the rescue, she’s gone to Sainsbury’s.

YABU Colin is the gold standard shop bought cake

YANBU Colin is an any time of year cake

Colin can be anything you want him to be😁

Colin is most definitely a birthday cake.
Did you know that you can order a large personalised one that serves 40 from M and S? It does cost £50 but comes on a board with your personalised message.

Can have standard ones delivered too. In a nice set with candles.

I haven’t had a birthday cake since I was a child. Am I the only one?

I hope so. But no you won’t be sadly.

I hate Colin. So dry and overrated.

Unpopular opinion alert - Colin is overrated!! I’d be disappointed with a glorified Swiss roll for my birthday.

You need reprogramming!

I'm very worried about all the people who seem to think that a Colin cake is the bees knees. Have they never tasted any other cake? It's honestly one of the worst quality cakes I've come across, as far as supermarket cakes go. It all seems a bit Emperor's new clothes to me.

I'd say the vast majority of my birthday cakes have not had Happy Birthday written on them. And if you are buying readymade that would limit hugely as to what you can buy. For our family you can have any sweet baked goods, pretty much. Maybe not cookies, but I had brownies one year. I think the last two we did were a pavlova and a cheesecake. If the recipient likes Colin then Colin is good.

I mean.. there is nothing stopping anyone from having a Happy Birthday cake for breakfast every day! We all have free will 😂

But I’m with everyone else - Colin is absolutely a birthday/celebration cake.

Colin is special for ALL occasions! My very wealthy friends had their wedding at a beautiful vin yard… all very very naaaice… the wedding cake(s) were Colin and Connie 😆

No.

To be fair, Colin is definitely a bit overrated. The chocolate doesn’t stay attached to the cake and you end up having to eat it separately. Cadburys Swiss gateau was our go to choice for an emergency shop bought birthday cake growing up and a worthy contender.

Any cake can be a birthday cake if you stick candles on it .

This ☝

Mermaidmusing · Yesterday 12:51

I find it a bit weird for adults to even have a birthday cake, unless it’s a milestone birthday. However, if someone insisted on buying me one, I’d be perfectly happy with a Colin. It’s a nice cake, a crowd pleaser and very easy to portion.

IzzyGone · Yesterday 12:52

A cake with the words written on Happy Birthday and a bit of butter cream icing and raspberry jam is a treat on a birthday

Colin is a cake for taking into work to share round for getting a deal or job finished

BadBadCat · Yesterday 12:52

Don't get they hype around Colin- it's always dry and sugary.

Colin puts in an appearance at every birthday in our house!

Same! 🐛💚

You need to add pouring cream and a slug of brandy
😋👌

Mermaidmusing

why is it weird for adults to have a birthday cake?

Its a celebration and cake is great to celebrate with, share and enjoy

NightIbble · Yesterday 12:56

We always have a Colin in our house and the birthday boy/girl gets to eat the face!

Ultraalox · Yesterday 12:57

What have I stumbled into. Colin is clearly the elite cake.

whatsit84 · Yesterday 12:57

It’s my kids favourite (and I wouldn’t be sad of one either!)

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · Yesterday 12:58

Op this might be the most unreasonable thing I’ve ever seen on aibu. How dare you😉Your dh should have been allowed to do what he was doing, he would have won the birthday😉Happy birthday to your dd and hope ye all enjoy (even with the Sainsbury’s cake😅)

Blooming eck I’d rather have a Colin than a generic sainsbugs birthday cake any day of the week.

we only have Colin’s on our birthday

Colin's what?

badbunnysadbunny · Yesterday 13:00

Colin is supposedly a birthday cake. He is a DRY cake and he belongs in the bin
