I had an appointment on Monday, put on my coat and left didnt check my reflection upon leaving by the door as we were running late.

I spoke to an eldelry lady i knew by the bus stop, the bus driver who I had to explain to repeatedly where was getting off at, a friendly mum I knew from the school run, the receptionist at said appointment, the owner of the business, 3 or 4 people who walked past me smiling at my newborn, the two people I had the appointment with , my own children who were 4 and 6 as well as two more members of staff we passed on our way to the meeting room. And yet no one wanted to tell me I had a CHEESY WOTSIT crisp stuck to my headscarf right next to my mouth the part I wrap under my chin literally 2cm from my mouth if that boldy sticking there. I felt my hijab coming loose so I tucked it a bit more in, sat there smiling and engaging in conversation with two professionals asking me questions and Im rubbing the side of my face until I felt the wotsit and tried to causally use my hand to cover me taking it off and holding it in my hand for the rest of the appointment. Why are people horrible??

It's over 50 years ago but I still cringe...
When I was about 14 I had a massive crush on my brother's friend Mike who was a couple of years older. One day I was messing about trying to style my newly cut fringe when the doorbell went and it was Mike, looking for my brother. I said he'd just gone down to the shop and would be back soon and would Mike like to come in a wait and I'd make him a cup of tea. So grown up. We chatted for a while until my bro arrived home and they disappeared off together. I went back to my bedroom and caught sight of myself in the mirror. With a big strip of sellotape across my fringe, to make it lie flat...

Maybe people thought it was a brooch?

😂

thecatdidit · 09/10/2026 20:15

I've just remembered another one. I was walking home from work laden down with carrier bags. I felt something wasn't right and realised that my knicker elastic had gone. I was wearing a skirt and my drawers fell right down around my ankles. I had to put all the bags down and pull them back up and try to hold onto them and then my bags. 😂

aminchargok · 09/10/2026 20:37

I regularly end up with marmite on my face after eating it on toast 🤦‍♀️Have been out and about for hours before noticing!

NotSureICanDoIt · 09/10/2026 20:38

I was once in the middle of breaking up with a boyfriend and one of the last times I saw him I wanted to look my absolute best. I left the house, got a taxi, walked along Oxford Street, popped into a couple of shops and then when I saw him he instantly said “Are your eyebrows blue?!” Yep, in my desperate rush to look nice I had used the blue eyeliner rather than a brown brow pencil. There was nothing I could do, I just had to walk around with blue eyebrows. Unsurprisingly he broke up with me that night.

I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever recover from this, and I need you all to understand just how thick I can be sometimes. 😂

So, I’m standing in my local corner shop, which has two counters: one for the post office and one for normal shopping. I’m queuing behind a man, minding my own business, waiting to be served.

Unbeknownst to me, the girl behind the counter has decided to abandon the regular till and wander over to the post office, despite there being a queue of people waiting.
The man in front of me turns around, looks at me and says, “Do I smell?”

Now, any normal person would understand that he means, “Why has she gone to serve someone else instead of us? Is it because I smell?”

But no. Not me. My brain has apparently packed up and gone home for the day.
I LOOK AT HIM, LEAN IN, AND ACTUALLY SNIFF HIS ARMPIT. 😭😭😭

Then, with the confidence of someone who has absolutely no idea what’s going on, I say:
“No, you actually smell okay!”

THE SILENCE THAT FOLLOWED. 💀

It took me approximately 0.7 seconds to realise what he’d actually meant, and by that point, the damage was done. There was no coming back from it. I had sniffed a complete stranger in the middle of a corner shop and given him a personal hygiene review that he had NOT requested.

The man behind me was absolutely BUCKLED. And the poor bloke in front just looked at me and said, “At least you’re honest.”

To which I replied, “Yeah, I wouldn’t lie.”

I just wanted the ground to open up, swallow me whole, and relocate me to another postcode.

Anyway, if anyone needs me, I’ll be avoiding my local corner shop for the rest of my natural life. 😂💀

OMG some of these are hilarious. This one in particular has had me screeching out loud plus the one of the poor lady who had to walk the length and breadth of London in her slippers. We need more of these to keep our spirits lifted.😂

You know I've never considered a wotsit as an accessory but I think you might be onto something. We should try and start it off as a trend. We'll soon be seeing hijabs with a chin wotsit going viral on TikTok and I will be the first to purchase!

Weeellokthen · 09/10/2026 20:52

😂thanks for this. Maybe they thought you were such a fan of the wotsit you had a brooch made.

Orangemintcream · 09/10/2026 21:06

I was once with my boss on a work trip and we stopped at the services. On the way out a very kind lady approached me as informed me I’d tucked my skirt into my knickers while in the toilet …

Thank god she told me. I would always tell someone - better they feel embarrassed for a minute while you let them know then embarrass themselves for god knows how long if no one tells them.

Imisscoffee2021 · 09/10/2026 21:15

So much of my life has been cringe moments I am quite immune to them now in my 30s, it's liberating! I once told a woman a tag was sticking out of her coat, as she was probably wearing it to something then would send back, huge dangling one, and I got a filthy look in return so perhaps people were nervous to say anything, or just in their own world.

I once had a poo at work and sprayed so much deodorant to hide the smell that the smoke alarms got set off. When someone came to check before the alarm went to stage 2, they found me standing guiltily in a room of fumes, I denied it was me and the whole place was evacuated, lots of public in there as well as staff. Everyone knew it was me by the end of the day.

I’m still in my kids room and absolutely shaking with laughter at this, trying to be quiet 😆

Some years ago when DD was in her early twenties, she wore a light coloured lounge suit to go shopping in the town centre but, for some reason, she chose not to wear any underwear. When she came home, she pointed out that the back seam of the trousers had partially come undone and some of her naked bottom was on display! A lady kindly pointed it out to her, and to make it worse, it was the part I had sewn up shortly beforehand. She didn't seem bothered, and I couldn't stop laughing!

BitterTits · 10/10/2026 01:11

These are so funny. I really wish my cringe moments were just cosmetic but they're so embarrassing I daren't commit them to writing! Honestly OP, just chalk it down to experience and give yourself a break. I can literally make myself blush with the shit I've done!

Not mine, but I remember reading one on here about someone who’d emptied the washing machine with her coat on - then had an entire afternoon out and about, including a doctors appointment. When she got home, she took her coat off and saw one of her g-strings was stuck to a bit of Velcro on her coat…

I know this is a frequent one, but I once walked through town, shops, etc with my robe thing caught in the back of my knickers. It was such a shame, as I'd being having such a lovely and delightful day, people looking at me and smiling. Thought it was a bit odd ...

Robe thing? 😕

Mygrandkidsaregreat · 10/10/2026 13:48

Most would be able to see it but could also see you had your hands full with your children! I’ve been out wearing two odd shoes and no one commented ! Most mums understand and we’ve all had moments like this!

I once had a builder retrieve a piece of toast from the back of my shoulder...

Icequeen01 · 10/10/2026 21:57

I’m not sure it’s the worst I’ve done but it was certainly a cringe worthy moment.
I arrived at my local train station to travel up to London to meet some old work colleagues for lunch. When I arrived at the station it was surrounded by police as a major incident had occurred. I went on my phone to see if there was anything mentioned on social media about the incident as no one knew what had happened. As I was doing this I was approached by a police officer which made me think I was about to get told off for being on my phone (no idea why I should think this 😂). The police officer said “Excuse me Madame” to which I replied “I’m so sorry, I will come off my phone”. He looked confused and said “Madam, I just thought you might like to know that you've got your cardigan on inside out”. 😂😂

Holidaymodeon · 11/10/2026 01:51

I always tell someone in the most discreet way I can. I’ve got home so many times and discovered similar horrors in the mirror and all i can think is ‘why didn’t someone tell me?’

Ha ha....I'm with you. Me and hubby once got stopped by one of the police officers (carrying a gun) outside No 10 Downing Street - straight away you think you're going to get a tellling off! He literally just pointed out that my toddler daughter (who was on my husband's shoulders) had lost one of her shoes! ...and he picked it up for us lol

Tamtim · 11/10/2026 03:37

This gave me a giggle, thank you. Sometimes people feel too embarrassed, I think, to say anything. It is bizarre though that no one thought to point it out.

I had a bird fly over me and poo on my face once. There were a lot of other people standing around. It’s supposed to be a sign of good luck. I didn’t feel like the lucky one.
