I had an appointment on Monday, put on my coat and left didnt check my reflection upon leaving by the door as we were running late.

I spoke to an eldelry lady i knew by the bus stop, the bus driver who I had to explain to repeatedly where was getting off at, a friendly mum I knew from the school run, the receptionist at said appointment, the owner of the business, 3 or 4 people who walked past me smiling at my newborn, the two people I had the appointment with , my own children who were 4 and 6 as well as two more members of staff we passed on our way to the meeting room. And yet no one wanted to tell me I had a CHEESY WOTSIT crisp stuck to my headscarf right next to my mouth the part I wrap under my chin literally 2cm from my mouth if that boldy sticking there. I felt my hijab coming loose so I tucked it a bit more in, sat there smiling and engaging in conversation with two professionals asking me questions and Im rubbing the side of my face until I felt the wotsit and tried to causally use my hand to cover me taking it off and holding it in my hand for the rest of the appointment. Why are people horrible??

The estate agents came over to give a quote on the house and I’d just been drinking Ribena. The ex didn’t tell me I looked like The Joker till they’d left lol

I was at a hotel in Belfast for my Uncle’s funeral. I went down to breakfast in my funeral dress as we were leaving for the crematorium straight after. My dress had a split down each side. I walked all the way round the breakfast buffet sorting out my breakfast as as I reached the table a man leant over and said ‘Your dress is caught’. It wasn’t just caught - the back of it was basically tucked into my knickers!!! Not one other person had thought to mention it as I was wandering round the sausages. 🤦‍♀️

Not horrible, trying to save your embarrassment

I wouldn't worry, considering you had a child with you, no one would have been surprised. I went to work with peppa pig stickers on my trousers, toddlers are fun

Ps. Why are there lots of deleted messages on this thread. Are ppl making racist comments about the hijab?!

Vinvertebrate · 09/10/2026 18:06

Sorry OP, that is a bit cringey (but also funny!)

Not sure whether I would have said anything either tbh. As a junior lawyer I was scrabbling around on the office floor doing bundles - very much against the clock - and one of the secretaries made a huge deal of tapping me on the shoulder, stony faced, beckoning me into a meeting room, and starting with "I didn't know whether to point this out, but if it was me, I'd rather know..."

I thought at the very least I'd shit my pants or was flashing my boobs. But no, it was because the price label was visible on the soles of one of my shoes and everyone could see because I was crawling around the floor. I mean, so what? I bought some shoes in the sale - how is this noteworthy?

I did not thank her and neither did the court clerk when my bundles were late! again

ForQuirkyFawn · 09/10/2026 18:09

What's my cringe moment?...I'm 59, there are too many to mention, don't stress about it, one day when you are lay in bed unable to sleep, this incident will come back into your thoughts and embarass you all over again, I guess it's just being human

FamilyPhoto · 09/10/2026 18:09

I once answered the door at work to an interviewee wearing a headband with elf ears on. It was summer and a college and I were clearing out an unused office , found the Xmas bits and had been trying them on. I totally forgot I was wearing them and didn't realise until after Id seated the interviewee. 🤦‍♀️

I feel for you! I popped home for lunch and then went straight to a sales pitch which went fine until I caught sight of a single baked bean welded to a button on my white blouse. It put me off my stride and I flicked it away.

I think you win for this being the most similar to the OP 😂.

Many years ago, I was having a lift in a car with a person I don’t know very well , it had been raining before I got into the car and I had a blue headscarf on ( told you it was years ago )
I took it off in the car and wondered why the driver kept looking at me oddly, we stopped at a cafe,
I went to the loo and the blue dye from the scarf ( it was cheap ) had mixed with my bleached blonde hair and my hair was about 80 % green. Had to wash it in the washbasin of the cafe.

PistachioTiramisu · 09/10/2026 18:37

What is a cheesy wotsit?

Drivesmescarlet · 09/10/2026 18:41

Maybe they thought it was Paddington-esque? Keeping a cheesie wotsit on your scarf for later for a snack rather than a marmalade sandwich under your hat.

What is a cheesy wotsit?

A crisp, Wotsit by name, cheese-flavoured.

Beingseenisneedy · 09/10/2026 18:43

Rushed out and got chatting to a neighbour, whom I'd incidentally helped get spinach out of her teeth last week.
20 minutes later, I get in the car, look in the mirror and I have a blob toothpaste on the corner of my mouth.
Not sure why she wouldn't just say.

A snazzy wotsit shaped orange brooch haha

Maybe you will start a new trend.

Loloblue · 09/10/2026 19:04

When I was at school I applied stick concealer under my eyes and walked around with big unrubbed stripes of it there all day!

AmberVerdigris · 09/10/2026 19:10

I put my (prescription) sunglasses on on the journey to work because of the low winter sun.
Spent the whole morning at work interacting with colleagues and members of the public.

I went to meet DH for lunch as he worked quite close, we went to a cosy little cafe and sat in a dark corner. DH said, deadpan, “yeah, it is very bright in here”, and I was confused because it was actually very dark indeed, come to think of it, I think I assumed he was being ironic and said “yeah, it’s really dark, I can hardly see the menu”, and he told me to take my sunglasses off then.

I’d spent the whole morning prancing around indoors in a pair of sunglasses in the middle of winter, and not one of my colleagues had batted an eyelid.

When my youngest ds was newborn i was very sleep deprived but my dd was at pre-school and it was quicker to walk then take the car. When we arrived one of the ladies said to me, have you looked in the mirror. I had a red ankle boot on, one knee length brown boot and some how I managed to wear my coat inside out. I was too tired to care and had to walk back home.
Another time before my dc's, I was at work and my feet were hurting so much in my shoes I was complaining I found it difficult to walk around the building. Before I left for home I realised I was wearing them on the wrong feet all day. They were high heels as well. The next morning one of my colleagues had drawn around their feet on a piece of paper and written left and right and put it under my chair to remind me not to do it again when I arrived for work. They were a great team to work with.

GooGooMuckMuck · 09/10/2026 19:20

My pencil skirt which had a zip all the way down the back unzipped itself whilst I was standing on the tube and fell down revealing my knickers. Horrid!!!!

I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever recover from this, and I need you all to understand just how thick I can be sometimes. 😂

So, I’m standing in my local corner shop, which has two counters: one for the post office and one for normal shopping. I’m queuing behind a man, minding my own business, waiting to be served.

Unbeknownst to me, the girl behind the counter has decided to abandon the regular till and wander over to the post office, despite there being a queue of people waiting.
The man in front of me turns around, looks at me and says, “Do I smell?”

Now, any normal person would understand that he means, “Why has she gone to serve someone else instead of us? Is it because I smell?”

But no. Not me. My brain has apparently packed up and gone home for the day.
I LOOK AT HIM, LEAN IN, AND ACTUALLY SNIFF HIS ARMPIT. 😭😭😭

Then, with the confidence of someone who has absolutely no idea what’s going on, I say:
“No, you actually smell okay!”

THE SILENCE THAT FOLLOWED. 💀

It took me approximately 0.7 seconds to realise what he’d actually meant, and by that point, the damage was done. There was no coming back from it. I had sniffed a complete stranger in the middle of a corner shop and given him a personal hygiene review that he had NOT requested.

The man behind me was absolutely BUCKLED. And the poor bloke in front just looked at me and said, “At least you’re honest.”

To which I replied, “Yeah, I wouldn’t lie.”

I just wanted the ground to open up, swallow me whole, and relocate me to another postcode.

Anyway, if anyone needs me, I’ll be avoiding my local corner shop for the rest of my natural life. 😂💀

Maybe they thought it was a snack for later?

I'd tell someone if they had food in their teeth, a hole in their trousers or toilet paper stuck to their shoe. I don't think "do you know you have a wotsit on your scarf?" is in that same realm. Doesn't make me horrible because at a certain point, it's verging on rude to point out such a 'flaw'.

I am unsure why that first sentence made me chuckle!

If you are unsure if youve finished just leave food stuck onto clothing!

On a serious note, I havent really had cringe moments. I care very little about what others think or perceive about me. Its none of my business.

:)

Namemechangey · 09/10/2026 19:41

Aww this is horrible OP, I am sure they just didn’t notice or didn’t want to embarrass you, I do always tell people though as I think I would rather be told.
I once did a job interview and at the END the guy interviewing me told me my wrap dress had come loose and my whole left boob and bra was showing, must have been like that the whole interview and ai didn’t notice. He was a complete and utter prick and it was mortifying.

YellowBlanketAfternoon · 09/10/2026 20:02

I wouldn’t have noticed. Honestly don’t worry. This stuff happens to me all the time - cloth nappy stuck to my skirt at the back - Velcro. Top falling open and revealing bra in a meeting - pointed out by my manager. Boob left out after breast feeding - in a cafe. I could go on. It was baby brain.

bettyrubble99 · 09/10/2026 20:05

Waaaayyy back in the day (talking 2002) i wss rushing around to get ready for work & i only did makeup on one of my eyes. How i missed the other i don't know. I got home that evening and saw what I'd looked like all day. I was so embarrassed. It was 2 days before Christmas and I worked on the till so i saw hundreds of people that day. I just kept thinking of everyone I encountered that day - and I worked at Boots! I could've done my makeup there but a soul said anything to me. x
