Facebook holiday bores.

What do you think of people who are suffering from main character syndrome when they are on holiday.
The everyday updates on what they are doing and 53 photos. 53.

Taking the phone in the sea and doing a selfie so we can see what they look like in the sea.

It's like some people can't relax anymore unless they are broadcasting every day for validation.

Maybe block them if its not something you want to see. We are the main character in our own lives and I think it's very unkind of you to speak about a friend like this.

They could have saved up a long time for that trip. You have no idea why they posted the photos because it's none of your business. Don't be a fun sponge.

Maybe have a bottle of wine and get laid. You won't care what people on the Internet are doing on their holiday then.

Betty24872 · 09/10/2026 09:23

How would you feel if your friend had said this about you?

VoiceofInsanity · 09/10/2026 09:25

Just think of it as a bit of silly fun and scroll on by without wasting energy feeling annoyed!

PigeonsAmongstTheCats · 09/10/2026 10:40

I'm not sure what I'm more bemused by on this post, whether the faux shock that people still use Facebook or the judgement of people using social media for it's intended purpose rather than specifically curating their content to an individual.

Do you not have to actually click on the post to see 53 photos too? So maybe just don't click on it if you don't want to see it?

Netcurtainnelly · 08/10/2026 16:31

Of course they can, by why do they want too? Some people are really over the top they can't let a day go by with posting something Its obsessive just stop .

Why do you care? Dont look if you dont like looking at their pics, it sounds like you are a bit obsessive if you feel you have to look....in the words of the song, just scroll on by 😘I use FB as my photo album of things I want to remember, yes I can set it just for me but why should I? My family might want to look at them, if you dont then dont, I'll run my FB the way I see fit and you sort your own out 😁

lebin · 09/10/2026 06:47

I hate it when people say they do it “for their own memories”. Your smartphone does that for you, there are apps you can use privately, you can send your family/ friends a photo or you can do it the old fashioned way and make a photo album.

People post on social media to show off. We are interested in other peoples lives and want ours to be interesting too!

Or, rather than download apps to share with my friends and family and clog our phones up, I can just do it on the FB one I already have. You dont have to look. I personally much prefer seeing what my friends are up to than all the random ads, rage bait and weird stuff that the algorithms give us these days 🙄

ruffler45 · 09/10/2026 11:30

Dont you just love people who play "holiday brag" - "just look where we have been" and "just look what we have just done"

And the burglars who say "just look who is on holiday lets go and break in"

None of my friends are burglars.

If your only fling it for yourself you can set your posts to only me.

Or you can scroll past? Why should someone adjust their behaviour to suit your preferences?

It says a lot about you and what you think of your friends if you think they are bragging...

I didn’t explain myself very well. I understand businesses promoting themselves, it’s just people who constantly post their life I find alien really

But some people (probably most people)are interested in other people's lives. The hairdresser is just not thinking of you when she posts about her private life. That was my point.

Only if your friends are burglars.

Ask them, not us ? We don't know.

cheeseomelette · 09/10/2026 13:39

we recently did a big trip and I warned everyone and told them I was fine if they unfollowed me.

I was so touched by the response I got to the pictures I shared (it was every few days, not daily). Several people privately told me that they can’t travel and really enjoy looking at other people’s experiences. A couple are now planning a similar trip.

of all the inane shite which appears on social media, travel pictures are the least of the irritations as far as I’m concerned.

aminchargeist · 09/10/2026 13:43

I enjoy seeing holiday pics and googling where they are staying.

Stompythedinosaur · 09/10/2026 13:48

Holidays are quite a big life event. Pretty normal to share on social media, I'd have thought. It's not like their posting their daily commute and the cheese sandwich they had for lunch.

What are you meant to put on social media if it isn't what's going on in your life?

I’m not against sharing on facebook. I like
looking at other people’s lives and if I do something exciting I like to share it. I’m just not kidding myself.
It’s not creating some sort of memory time capsule (your phone or a photo album
can do that). It’s not so my family can see the photos (I could just send them directly or have my settings so only family members can see the post). It’s showing off that the end of the day and that’s part of human nature!

I understand your point, but there is absolutely nothing in this world that would make want to post anything about myself and I genuinely don’t get why people do it. To me it just screams “look at me everyone, look at how great/happy/wonderful I am/my life is”.

I am happy in my life and I have a wonderful family and we do lots of things, but I just don’t feel the need to broadcast it to the world. That’s the point I’m trying to make 🙂

You dont have to but other people can do what they please.

JustChillin70 · 08/10/2026 17:40

You can also set your privacy settings for a photo dump to ‘only me’ so they don’t keep popping up on all your friends feeds

But I don’t want to do that. I have friends and family who do like to see my photos.
what there is is an unfollow button so anyone not wanting to see can just unfollow.

nam3c4ang3 · 09/10/2026 14:25

Who TF uses FB still!? Anyway - YABU - just scroll on FFS!

Maybe social media isn't for you?

Posting about your life and reading about other people's lives is surely the main point of it!

I like seeing other people's holidays (and their cats, and what their dc are up to, all of that!).

loveawineloveacrisp · 09/10/2026 14:34

I love looking at other people's holidays and trips. Gives me inspiration. Also, isn't it nice to see people happy and having fun? I'm on holiday and I've posted every couple of days. Those who don't like it can unfollow.

Lindy2 · 09/10/2026 14:35

I treat Facebook as my photo album.

I've some relatives that like seeing the photos.

Anyone else is welcome to look at the photos or scroll past depending on their preference.

When you see your friends / siblings / parents in person, don't you chat to each other about what's going on in your lives?

Most people, in real life, talk to their friends and family about their relationships, their kids, their jobs, their holidays and any number of other things about their lives.

Why is that any different to doing the same thing with friends on social media?
