Are there any MN's out there that aren't like this?!

Going on about Birkenstocks
Have a family inheritance
Private schools for kids
Saving loads for their Retirement or kids UNI

Yes we are all from different walks in life and that's what makes mums (or mumsnet) great!

I just feel I cannot relate to this site anymore!

None of those are me OP.

Btw, I think Birkenstocks are butt ugly, I wouldn't take them in a gift

CremeDeMure · Yesterday 23:07

I don't go on about my Birkenstocks, comfortable as they are. I do fit the rest but don't generally post about them either.

I love my Birkenstocks. I’ve had a new pair every year since early 00s

Really? But they don’t even seem to change style at all…what’s the point?

PrincessDonutTheQueenAnneChonk · Yesterday 23:09

Even on this thread people have to sneak in that little brag.

None of those apply to me OP, Disabled in a council house, ILs both died earlier this year poor and disabled. No savings, no expensive shoes, no family.

nevertherightweather · Yesterday 23:15

People are so materialistic and all about appearance and status now. It’s a shallow existence. I hate it. It’s very like this where I live.

nevertherightweather · Yesterday 23:16

PS I personally don’t like the look of Birkenstocks

GarlicEverything · Yesterday 23:19

Hello, I'm Garlic and I'm a State pensioner with chronic health issues. I live in a tiny HA flat in a town I don't like, am pathetically isolated and have a hundred bad habits. I did get a modest inheritance from my mum; that disqualified me for housing & CT benefit so it's basically going on living costs.

People come from all walks of life, stuff happens, fortunes change. It's OK. We have more in common than not!

eta: I don't like Birkenstocks.

bigboykitty · Yesterday 23:22

I've only got the birkenstocks bab.

boredsmored · Yesterday 23:22

I think it’s a dying number who still have dc in school!

Vitrolinsanity · Yesterday 23:24

Well, you’re dead wrong with Birkenstocks. Marvellous and cured my plantir fasciitis in a month. DS went to private school on a 50% bursary which I couldn’t afford now due to the VAT. He is now in the Army. I work in the state sector, never have lunch, work most weekends and have trouble sleeping due to the amount on my desk. And I’m a Tory voter, which fits me up nicely for cloven hoofs and a tail on this site.

boredsmored · Yesterday 23:29

I think many of the answers prove my point, MNs skews much older these days. The average poster age is probably 55 plus, nothing wrong with that but that’s not what MNs market stats suggest.

TheFormerMrsTruelove · Yesterday 23:30

Why do you feel you need to have stuff in common with other posters in order to give them your opinion? If someone is being a twat, they’re being a twat, regardless of their footware.

And fwiw, I don’t have any of those things.

DewDropsAndCobWebs · Yesterday 23:32

I adore my many pairs of birkenstocks, but alas, there will be no inheritance for me, my DC attended the local Canadian public schools, and there is no fancy retirement on the horizon.

Deadringer · Yesterday 23:40

I have heard of birkenstocks but never seen a pair.
I grew up poor and didn't receive any inheritance.
We are fairly low income, no savings to speak of, no private schools, dh has a small pension, i have none at all.

SquirrelGG · Today 00:46

Going on about Birkenstocks - the most uncomfortable shoes ever

Have a family inheritance - I have inherited some money, not life changing and not even enough to buy a house

Private schools for kids - no kids but if I did most definitely no private schools

Saving loads for their Retirement or kids UNI - saved a small amount for retirement, now retired

Stinkybooks · Today 00:57

Most of us are not as you describe in your list. Yabu

ChoccyHobknob · Today 01:01

Nope, nope, nope and nope. Nor can I afford to shop at Seasalt or be full on a massive salad.

But I can make a chicken last 3 meals for me, DH and DD 😆

YourAmberExpert · Today 01:06

Fairly standard stuff, never heard anyone going on about Birkenstocks though.

I've sometimes wondered about that. But the parenting boards are always busy, and loads of the threads I read (not on parenting) mention young or school-age children.

I imagine the average age has probably increased. Mumsnet's 25 years old and many of us have been here since the early days, getting older with the site - but it is still fundamentally Mumsnet.
