Going on about Birkenstocks
Have a family inheritance
Private schools for kids
Saving loads for their Retirement or kids UNI

Yes we are all from different walks in life and that's what makes mums (or mumsnet) great!

I just feel I cannot relate to this site anymore!

Saving loads but none of the rest

mostly I wear skechers
state schools (don’t believe in private)
encouraging my parents to spend what they have on themselves and enjoying their retirement

None of the above! Never saved for retirement and pension fund is a bit meagre. Come from a very working class family of heavy smokers who died in their 60s or early 70s and I never really got the point of investing in a retirement that might be very short. I Inherited £5k from my father - 5 of us sharing proceeds of house sale once legals, debts etc settled. I have done well in terms of career and do tend to spend a bit on nice clothes - no Birkenstocks though! I’m happy to give my DCs and other family members (brother and sister also died young) as much as I can when I have it

DCs have done spectacularly well despite one leaving school with no qualifications at all. Both have achieved a much better work life balance than I’ve managed.

The materialistic attitude of so many really annoy me and I think it is so incredibly shallow. I actually think Birkenstocks are ugly. I used to work in private schools. Some are no better than state schools, in fact some are worse. I couldn’t give a hoop if you drive a new Audi or an old fiesta. It’s who you are that matters to me. But then I have an old car, a modest house, no inheritance and a low earner living in a wealthy area. If I had money, I’d just put it away for my kids and as long as my car works and my home is comfortable and a safe space, that’s all that matters to me. People have gotten so precious and care too much about appearances. I blame social media.
