Are there any MN's out there that aren't like this?!

Going on about Birkenstocks
Have a family inheritance
Private schools for kids
Saving loads for their Retirement or kids UNI

Yes we are all from different walks in life and that's what makes mums (or mumsnet) great!

I just feel I cannot relate to this site anymore!

I don't know what Birkenstocks are.

Everything else is me unfortunately.

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · Yesterday 22:43

But for all of those posts there’s a ‘are you for real’ so obviously not everyone’s like that!!

NotAnotherScarf · Yesterday 22:43

Like all social media. There's a lot of liars.

However, I think that there are a lot of middle class, wealthy people here and I think that, on balance, they slightly more to the right politically than would be expected.

dreamingofgoodhair · Yesterday 22:44

I’m none of those.

Birkenstocks hurt my feet, family - not a pot to piss in let alone inheritance or large financial gifts, I work in the public sector so private school is never going to happen. I do love a savings account, probably due to deep rooted childhood trauma linked to financial instability and poverty.

DramaAlpaca · Yesterday 22:46

DH and I are not far off retirement so we're being sensible and practical about squirrelling money into pensions. I might get an inheritance if I'm lucky. One kid still at university.

I didn't send my kids to private school, don't agree with it. I wouldn't be seen dead in Birkenstocks; they're ugly things.

cauliflowercheesey · Yesterday 22:48

The Birkenstocks are very random?
But no I don’t have a pair.
And no I do not have bags of cash (and never have had).

shellyleppard · Yesterday 22:48

Single mum. Birkenstock are the fancy shoes I think. Not much money but I have got my two sons through college and have a bit of savings.
Just an average jo

ACatNamedRobin · Yesterday 22:49

Ha! None of those
I think Birkenstocks look abominable.
I come from a poor country in Europe so no inheritance.
No kids, and I’ve kept moving jobs so my pension is made up of crappy itty bitty ones.

ILoveKits · Yesterday 22:51

I quite fancy a pair of birkie shearlings for slippers.

Apologies @MyLifeHasChanged

SeedsOfReason · Yesterday 22:54

Going on about Birkenstocks
Shred my feet something awful

Have a family inheritance
Ha, ha, ha (bitter laugh)

Private schools for kids
Childfree zone!

Saving loads for their Retirement or kids UNI
Nope.

Muchtoomuchtodo · Yesterday 22:54

We’re none of those!
I had some second hand Birkenstocks once but they hurt my feet!
We will support DS through university but there’s not been any chance to save in advance.
Inheritance? Dp spent well and enjoyed what they had. It wasn’t millions but it was theirs to enjoy

MrHankyTheChristmasPoo2 · Yesterday 22:57

Going on about Birkenstocks ❌ (WTF?!)

Have a family inheritance ❌ ✅(husband will receive some, I’ll receive a small amount )

Private schools for kids ❌

Saving loads for their Retirement or kids UNI ✅❌
(depends on what you mean by loads, it’s all relative. We have savings for kids uni -they’ll still need the loans but we’ll need to contribute as well, and both have pensions that some people would consider huge and others would consider tiny)

Bundleflower · Yesterday 22:57

None of those just strangely in a way I’m all of those.
People can pose as all sorts. I wouldn’t worry.

Stompythedinosaur · Yesterday 22:58

I have some second hand Birkenstocks! None of the rest, though.

I think there's all sorts of people on mn.

They’re just shoes, they’re not even expensive, mine were about £40 and I’ve had them for a decade…

Ah, I see.

I don't own a pair of shoes which cost less than €400.

Coffeewinecake · Yesterday 23:03

Not the first but all the others.

Lougle · Yesterday 23:04

Nope. I really don't think there's a homogeny amongst posters here, which is why I enjoy it. I love seeing 'how the other half live' from all directions. Old, young, rich, poor, working, SAHMs, professionals with fancy jobs, people with very basic jobs that are flipping hard work...

Yeah I mean I’ve just looked and they are about 75 now for the ones I have, but I have a basic sandal. I dont think I would buy any more at that price, they’re only a single strap sandal. Mine cost less than trainers and I just wear them on an evening on holiday because I’m not particularly into fashion and don’t have many shoes.

Maybe there are expensive ones too that people are obsessed with 🤷‍♀️ I have zero clue on anything clothing really, just live in hoodies and jeans my entire life.

SoSoLong · Yesterday 23:05

All I've got to say about Birkenstocks is that they are fugly. No inheritance. I tick the other boxes.

notnorman · Yesterday 23:05

I love my Birkenstocks. I’ve had a new pair every year since early 00s

Joolsin · Yesterday 23:05

I haven't noticed any threads on those topics, not do I relate to any of them apart from the Birkenstocks, which I've been wearing since they didn't cost the earth. My newest pair came from Vinted.

MyFriendNorman · Yesterday 23:07

Going on about Birkenstocks - nope, horribly uncomfortable things and very pricey
Have a family inheritance - nope
Private schools for kids - nope
Saving loads for their Retirement or kids UNI - kids going to uni but will get loans. We are saving for retirement.
