We need to educate ourselves and our daughters on how to choose ‘good’ men.

The point of the thread is asking if there are any. It sounds quite victim blaming to suggest every women hurt or killed by a partner was at fault for picking badly. We all know men who lie and cheat to get what they want at any cost, so the onus should be on men to call each other out and lift their gender in the process.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 07/10/2026 17:47

I suggest you start your own thread. Maybe entitle it "I am a man and want to know why this woman has been put into a psychiatric hospital because I can't accept that she has mental health issues and want her to be like all of the heartless murdering men" and see what you get.

Please let me know when you have those details. Thanks.

But according to mumsnet there's no such thing.
Maybe we hope our daughters turn out to be lesbian or asexual or that they just never leave the house or something...

Why does someone murder their wife?

I don't understand..how do you do this to someone you have 3 kids with? Like you love your kids....how do you take away their mother from them?

I literally can't fathom this. DH and have had such horrific arguments in the past but he's never laid a hand on me.

This makes me sick to much stomach.

I think more people than who care to admit, love only themselves.

There are a lot of people out there, probably more men than women, who simply don’t love their kids. Or wife. Or anyone around them. It’s not personal to the people, they just don’t feel that true affection and love. Which makes violence much easier for them.

We like to think that love conquers all. But what even is love? People say it after weeks of being together, it’s an expression, I don’t think it always reflects deep respect and affection, sadly.

Bit silly but we can demonstrate through our actions- that out girls don’t have to tolerate bullshit and misogyny, we can educate them on where to get help, to talk, to not stay silent and to protect their friends

But it’s those raising boys , including fathers, to educate their boys - violence isn’t women’s problem to solve

Do you really think those who are in abusive relationships went into them thinking anything other than the man was a “good” man? So much victim blaming. Often the most horrific of abusers are the ones who are charming and tick every green flag box to begin with.

I’m trying really hard to believe it’s ‘not all men’. However all I read about on the news is violent crimes against women and children. Each time my faith in men is squashed. I’m trying very hard to bring my son up correctly to stand up for women’s rights and show respect. I’m having to have discussions with my 13yr old daughter about male violence towards girls and women. I truly fear for her safety as she becomes more independent. After leaving a long term abusive marriage I will never be able to trust men again completely. Fortunately my son is determined to become the complete opposite to my exh, but unfortunately both my children were witness and experienced dv. I don’t know the solution, apart from educating boys from a young age.

I think it’s a lot to do with entitlement. If you bring up your child with boundaries, so he doesn’t think the world owes him and that he has to consider others I think you’re well down the right path. The ones that end up in trouble almost always have parents who try and get them off, say she led him on and/or say what a lovely boy he is. How many years have those parents been making excuses for them.

Why are men great till they gotta be great …

they are all ‘good men’ till they’re not

7 men raped an unconscious woman for 7 hours - 50 good men knew and did nothing

Wasn’t aware that a law degree was required to comment on public criminal cases. In any case, is that the same law that lets many pedophiles and other violent criminals off every year?

We shouldn’t victim blame, it truly can happy to anyone.

But there are often signs that people either don’t see or ignore. Low confidence, raised in an abusive home, innocently minded, financially or emotionally dependent, children etc - so many reasons why women may choose to downplay signs until you can’t deny them anymore, but can’t get out safely.

Girls need to be given the confidence to trust their instincts, to break up a relationship that doesn’t work for them (whatever the reason), and to demand a certain level of treatment and behaviour from their spouse.

Number one rule is to never stay if someone has hit you, even once. Never give a second chance. Never doubt yourself.

Twice as many men get murdered as women, all murders are horrible, and oppression of women is still a terrible thing but don't put it out of proportion, there are a lot of nasty people out there who kill men as well. I guess women are more likely to be killed by a partner.

How many of those men are murdered by women? I’ll take a wild guess that it’s a very small percentage! It’s also not the subject of this thread!

Do you know what else women and girls need - to be believed, to be treated by the law as victims of crime, for those crimes to be prosecuted, to know they will get justice

not to have the police dismiss them, start group chats about them, share photos of their injuries or dead bodies with vile comments, not have police officers murder them …

it’s not a women problem

No - and it won’t - because men rape - I’m in no way suggesting you can prevent rape by educating women!!!

I was 4 - not even old enough to understand how much men hate us - but the quote was in response to how to help girls - pretending it’s not all men and that life’s is fine if you choose the right one or are a lesbian isn’t going to help either

I read a comment recently that said something like: Men are protectors, but they're protectors of other men, not women.

I think there's a lot of truth in that.

Of course it is and they've co-opted some women too.🙄 Just look at the amount of NAMALT, Not my Nigel, victim blaming and apologist posts on this thread. A thread about the ever present risk to women and children from MEN!😡

I am heartened by the poll.❤️

It is not 'a tiny minority of men'.

If you want to talk about women committing crimes, start your own thread.

It's approx 3-5% of the male population that commit violent crimes so definitely not all men

Yes definitely, I’m sickened by the low conviction rates and piss poor sentences. It’s humiliating and degrading.

But unfortunately at that stage it’s often too late too, the abuse is normally pretty bad by the time people call the police.

One hit or push is one too many.

Are you basing that on conviction rates? If so, it’s highly underestimated.

Most victims don’t report. Most of those who report don’t get a conviction.

Sadly, abuse is often hidden. As they say, you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.

Excuses are made for violence all the time though, another thread running where OP cites her son as being nice but dim

He basically targets people that he thinks need a telling off and bullies and frightens them, pretends he's a police officer etc etc

Apparently the poor lamb has ADHD and so theres tons of blather about how his poor brain isnt developed, he will grow up and out of it, he cant help it, he has a condition resulting in this that and the other

All excuses, I dont really care whats wrong with someone or what condition they have, they need to behave to expected standards in society. These same men who end up being violent are 5 years earlier having threads made about them to say how awful or unfair they've been exluded from school or had some other consequences that they shouldnt have because they have some condition or other.

Excuse after excuse made for the piss poor behaviour of men. It starts at school violent children in mainstream schools assaulting others, throwing books, pens or furniture at others. Little children having to deal with abuse and assault every single day, behaviour that would not be tolerated in the Heads office or the offices of our M.Ps or other adults but seemingly acceptable in a classroom.
Parents allow unchecked access to the internet for children. As long as the children are quiet the parents don't give fuck what they are watching. Primary school children with their own smart phones bought by feckless parents. Children watching deprived porn and extreme violence because the parents are too busy scrolling on their own phones to bother monitoring what their children are watching.
Then we have Hollywood churning out violent films one after the other. Yet they are staple viewing in many households. Closely followed by video games.
Bloody casual violence everywhere and too many adults allow it.
