What a terrible example to pull this loathsome man into a school to talk to children about his writing.

He was there as a successful author of popular fiction.

He has died. Have some respect please

Why have some respect? He didn’t respect anyone while he was alive, except himself. Not even Fragrant Mary.

Jeffrey Archer, liar, bully, convicted criminal and user of prostitutes?

That’s the one.

He was there as a successful author of popular fiction.

So his character and past conduct are meaningless? We should not judge him by his actions but just by his success as an author? Gotcha.

Teado · Yesterday 23:00

I didn’t know that the woman he paid for sex, Monica, had died at the age of only fifty. I just googled her. Poor woman.

Jeffrey Archer will be mourned by his immediate family and close friends and I have sympathy for them.

THisbackwithavengeance · Yesterday 23:00

He was a very, very talented man. Best selling author. MP. Did he not play a sport at an international level? He had an exceptionally full life. I’m sure he did lots of good things as well as bad. I remember his court case very well.

SpottyAlpaca · Yesterday 23:03

I still remember laughing & cheering when Archer was sent to prison for four years. He was a liar, a con man & a convicted perjurer who cheated on his wife, shagged prostitutes & sued journalists who told the truth about him.

Top Lad. 🙄

This was before his egregious actions and imprisonment.

Oh would have been good if you had made that clear in your post!

The fact he is dead does not alter the facts - he was a convicted perjurer who used women.

Why should I? I'd already made it plain what I think of him and was describing my friend's account of how well he came over at a school visit. That is all.

Exactly, he was a truly vile individual, sociopathic. Anyone who can lie so freely in court is a dangerous person, a court case he himself brought against the Star for libelling him! They had correctly claimed he had sex with a prostitute. Poor Monica Coughlan. How anyone can wax on about his books and deny the reality of his sordid and disgusting past is just beyond me.

Appreciate the art. Warner, horrible anti semitic, great composer. Michael Jackson brilliant singer..pedo

Gary Glitter great songs...pedo. Hitler great artist....Gengis Khan brilliant trombone player...And you should see what Pol Pot could do with a fish and a clove of garlic

Edited

Because his infamy as a perjurer and user of prostitutes cannot be seperated from writing from the perspective of looking at him now. So it would have been helpful to therefore clarify that this event preceded the most damaging aspects of his life. HTH.

But his books were the sort sold at airports. He was not a a great author of any sorts!!

I don't think you can separate the art from the man. And I am sorry but you have weakened your own argument stating that Gary Glitter had great songs. He was an utter joke, in my opinion.

Sad for his family, but no great loss to the literary world.

I'd rather have respect for the prostitute he used who convenient died, his wife and other victims.

SpottyAlpaca · Yesterday 23:53

In fairness to Archer, he became a multi-million selling author because he understood that his readers wanted a proper page-turner with an actual plot, so he gave them exactly that. He didn’t care about the critics. The more the envious literary snobs sneered, the more truckloads of copies he sold & the richer he became. I can respect him for that, if nothing else.

You're quite the intuit aren't you? I don't think @echt was trying to conceal their indifference to the news of an old con's demise, as I wasn't when I responded "oh well"

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · Today 00:08

He has died. Have some respect, please.

No. This awful man doesn't deserve respect.
