Your post speaks volumes - about you. @Moros the kind left always the same on the death or even murder of somebody they didn't like. It really is tasteless.

He has died. Have some respect please

He did those things. His death doesn’t alter that.

Blankitout · 06/10/2026 07:32

When i saw the post on this thread that Monica Coghlan was dead I looked her up. She not only died a tragic death but had quite a tragic life - like a lot of women drawn into the sex trade - and the Archer affair totally affected her life.
This morning I've just listened to the piece on the Today programme about Archer's death which included an interview with his pal John Gummer - former Tory MP, now member of the House of Lords. What sticks with me is Gummer's assertion that Archer was a life enhancer. He apparently enhanced everybody's life that he came across. Well it doesn't seem to me he enhanced Monica's life. But I don't suppose she was a person who counted for anything in the eyes of Archer and his pals.

R.I.P. Jeffery Archer. Flowers

You were definitely gonna get some pretty negative comments about him on here though @ImarriedTravis Definitely a fascinating and colourful character though, with a very chequered life!

And an excellent author.

No and it's a pity it also doesn't alter tosser comments. Ann Widdecome and Charlie Kirk all over again.

Maybe if he had behaved respectfully in his life people would have more respect for him. Being dead doesn’t negate awful behaviour. He was 86, it’s not tragic. Old men die.

robespierresvirtue · 06/10/2026 07:43

Didn’t he have a conversion to Christianity in prison? I’m pretty sure I was at Uni with his son (who was incredibly handsome in an arrogant sort of way). Maybe I’m thinking of another Tory sleaze merchant though.

Yes absolutely. If ANYone dies who is right wing/right of centre, the vile comments come in from the left like bullets from a gun.

As you say always 'the kind left,' so compassionate and caring. 🙄

Yes and one above calling it Tory sleaze. At least it's obvious that politics can make people hateful - even drive one to kill. The lovely fluffy intolerant hard left. They never cease to amaze.

But his books were the sort sold at airports. He was not a a great author of any sorts!!

I don't think you can separate the art from the man. And I am sorry but you have weakened your own argument stating that Gary Glitter had great songs. He was an utter joke, in my opinion.

It was a joke. Glitters song were great pop songs. Pol Pot wasn't that great a cook

I dunno, I'd say 'Rock n' Roll (Part 2)' is a banger tbh 🫣.

He served his punishment for his misdemeanors

Crimes. Let’s not trivialise them.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/10/2026 07:56

Proves only the good die young

He was a horrible grifter, liar, ruined a woman’s life, incredibly craven about money, awful to his wife (who stayed with him as he told a good story and was narcissistically charming).

He was incredibly charming and extremely manipulative. It infuriates me how much that is lauded.

Rock 'n' Roll Christmas is one of the best Christmas songs ever, and takes me back to a very happy, carefree time dancing in my local social club Christmas parties, with my family, neighbours, and friends, in the 1980s. Grin

Yeah love that song. Agree about social clubs and the 80s. If only to go back. Half a lager and lime and pork scratchings, waiting for your fave songs to come on do you could go and have a 💃

Hate perfectly summed up. Yuk.

And a pernod and black and southern comfort and lemonade!

Also enjoyed Step Into Christmas and Wonderful Christmastime at that time! Grin

Who is minimising crime? He was convicted and served a prison sentence.
There are many who have done worse and are walking freely on the streets
