He has died. Have some respect please

Why does his death mean that these things are no longer relevant?

Myli1 · 06/10/2026 09:22

Ah the crooked corrupt and dishonest old Tory jailbird. How sad. Anyway, what shall I cook for dinner?

Jeffrey Archer, liar, bully, convicted criminal and user of prostitutes?

He's dead nobody speaks ill of the dead remember.
I agree with you though, and probably his ex wife would too.

Absolutely- many of whom will be walking the streets tomorrow shitting all over the memory of the rape and slaughter of Jews.

Nailed it 😡

Appreciate the art. Warner, horrible anti semitic, great composer. Michael Jackson brilliant singer..pedo

Gary Glitter great songs...pedo. Hitler great artist....Gengis Khan brilliant trombone player...And you should see what Pol Pot could do with a fish and a clove of garlic

The trouble is that he was anything but a great writer. He could put together a good story, but it was very derivative and his writing style was pedestrian.

What ex-wife? He was still married to Mary Archer at the time of his death.

How can there be trouble when it’s based on your opinion?

Pedallleur · 06/10/2026 09:29

Can you imagine the MN thread?
My husband has been v.successful and we have a lovely riverside home/expensive lifestyle and move in high circles. But he has committed perjury, lied about his past and used prostitutes. What should I do?

More fool her then.

I was pointing out the problem with the argument that he was in the same category as the artists quoted.

This.

Archer dead? Such a liar! I would want to see the body before I believed he was dead.

Great isn't it?

The BBC obviously HATED him and aren't lauding him just because he has done something we all do in the end

Great novelist, lying, adulterous scumbag, seems to sum it up with them

A shame really as his really life story is far more interesting than the lies he told about it, especially about his father

HideousKinky · 06/10/2026 10:11

robespierresvirtue · 06/10/2026 07:43

Didn’t he have a conversion to Christianity in prison? I’m pretty sure I was at Uni with his son (who was incredibly handsome in an arrogant sort of way). Maybe I’m thinking of another Tory sleaze merchant though.

I think that was Jonathan Aitken

Shockhorror22 · 06/10/2026 10:15

I worked at his main publishers back in the 80s. He was a bully and everybody loathed him.

Pedallleur · 06/10/2026 10:19

I can't believe the fandom on here. His art, his writing, life enhancer. Con man deluxe. He made Boris look like a Saint (almost). Archer would have made off with your savings/pension/home. In other times he would have been described as a cad, a bounder, wrong sort of chap and be asked to resign his commission. Probably didn't get long enough in jail

RedRiverShore6 · 06/10/2026 10:21

Well no one on the left will like him anyway, even if he was a saint.

It seems The Telegraph HATED him too.

Jeffrey Archer, best-selling writer and Tory MP with an incomparably colourful personal life

His life story was a tale of ambition, power, money and sexual intrigue, with more unexpected twists and turns than one of his novels

Death the Leveller all the same.

Jeffrey Archer was a mountebank and a bad hat.

I do love Mumsnet. 😁. Genuinely.

i had to google mountebank, can’t wait for an opportunity to use it in real life.

I was always suspicious that the prostitute died in a “hit and run”.

She wasn't killed in a "hit and run". The man who crashed into her car was fleeing the scene of a robbery, hit her car head-on after overtaking a lorry, seriously injuring himself as well. In fact he stole and crashed more than one car in his reckless getaway - total coincidence that Monica Coghlan was one of the drivers in his path:

My ex- bro in law was inside with him and said he was a really nice bloke. But villains stick together.

Cherrycoko · 06/10/2026 12:03

He was a true renaissance man. I don't care about his private life. I draw the line at paedophilia but consensual sex is different.
