Context -

You would just have to press a button and you wouldn't have to see it happen

You would be guaranteed not to know any of them beforehand

No one would know it was you unless you confessed

Yanbu yes
Yabu no

No, but I would kill myself afterwards. Couldn’t take the pain.

Noshowlomo · 05/10/2026 19:13

Yes to save my son I’d do anything

Blankitout · 05/10/2026 19:21

I'm still reeling after reading about the botched attempted state killing of Christa Pike in Tenessee. Absolutely repulsed by the fact the mother of the murder victim , Colleen Slemmer, was actually present at the execution. Horrible that her daughter was murdered but how does watching someone being murdered by the state make her any better then those who murdered her daughter.
I dont like your thread at all OP.

Absolutely. There are 3 people I would kill or die for.
I’d put a bullet in peoples’ heads myself if I had to, no qualms at all.

BIossomtoes · 05/10/2026 19:29

No. Nobody I love would want that. And I certainly wouldn’t want anyone to do it to save me. Ridiculous idea.

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 05/10/2026 19:31

No. And I say that as someone who has lost the person I loved most.

I am against the DP and appalled by the CP situation but what has this got to do with OP’s question?

OP yes I would but only to save my child/ren. No one else

Surroundedbyfools · 05/10/2026 19:37

Tough one but yes.

I would kill to save my children,

Bringemout · 05/10/2026 19:37

Yes but only for my DC, I would suffer extreme anguish for the rest of my life but yeah I don’t think I would be able to stop myself.

Lonelycrab · 05/10/2026 19:37

What a lovely idea for a thread OP

Gengha · 05/10/2026 19:37

also no idea why anyone is getting their knickers in a twist over it, it’s just a stupid thread, not a scenario that’s ever going to be tested

50Balesofgrey · 05/10/2026 19:39

I would do anything for love,
But I won't do that

I think a few politicians have tested it over the years.

Tap into someones emotional fears and let the killing be anonymous. Has worked well in the past and will no doubt work well in the future. Just need to be those dead people to be others

Shrigley · 05/10/2026 19:41

I think the honest answer must be yes, when you consider what else we do eg I've spent the best part of £1m just on my children's education alone so far- how many children would that have saved in sub Saharan Africa?

Others may not have such an extreme example to share but the principle still applies- how many lives could you have saved just for the cost of non-essentials spent on your children? If it's a large number (and I'm sure it is) how likely is it really that you'd put 10000 lives over your child's life?

Well what actually inspired it was reflecting on the limitations (or lack thereof) of the national welfare state (any nation that has one). You can help 10,000 people from another country and refuse at least some lifesaving but expensive treatments or services domestically or you can do the opposite. Someone is going to die in either situation and you have the power to choose who. You're actually choosing whether you press the button or not.

I was just curious about who would rather the strangers or the loved one. It might have been a better example if I'd said one stranger to save a loved one, on reflection.

And yes precisely. Who even gives up a family holiday to send money to save an African school from malaria. Basically nobody.

I would kill the whole world to save my children. I know that the aftermath would be really really bad and thus probably an overall wrong move but I still would (sorry everyone).

Itsbeensevenhours · 05/10/2026 19:47

God, I don’t think my child would want me to, but I would want to do anything to save them. But then they may never forgive you for going against their wishes and murdering 10,000 people so you’d lose them anyway.
I don’t think you’d be on grandma duties anyway

HelsinkiLights · 05/10/2026 19:49

Yes for my DC & the scary thing is I would still sleep peacefully at night, probably because of the anonymity.

PeasOff · 05/10/2026 19:50

Yes, without any hesitation.

caringcarer · 05/10/2026 19:51

I love my DC more than anything but no I wouldn't murder 10,000 people for them.
