I'd do it for my child. I don't think I'd feel too guilty about it nor suffer mentally afterwards. Certainly no where near as much as I would with the grief of losing my child.

For sure. We take action every day that hurts others and we don't care because we don't know them.

Also: flip it around. Would I kill someone I love for strangers I know nothing about? No. That would be terrible and cause actual guilt.

But you'd be torn by the guilt of having chosen to kill the person you love the most. It's an either / or situation.

I love my dd more than anyone in the world, but I wouldn't kill an innocent person just to save her - let alone 10,000.

Apart from anything else, I know my dd well enough to know that she would be horrified by the idea of an innocent person dying just to keep her alive.

I would rather kill myself than make that decision and live with it in either direction. I would kill to defend my dd from someone who was threatening her though.

He's not talking about whether it's justifiable. I think the point is more that many of us would do things which are completely unjustifiable (objectively) to saved our loved ones.
