The Green Party are an unelectable bunch of extreme soundbites and not environmental at all

The Green Party are more and more extremist. The latest is that supporting the right to Jewish self determination (Zionism) is now racist.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6jdm5n1vy7go

The Green Party are a million miles from the Green Party I voted for years ago. Now full of men that think they are women, accusing people that believe in self determination for their own people as racist. They appear unable to see the division and racism of their own party. Many antisemitic tweets from their members over the last few years.

AIBU

The Green Party are long gone to a bunch of extreme individuals with not a chance of being elected party.

A woman takes a photo of sign advertising the Green Party conference.

Green Party members back 'Zionism is racism' conference motion

The vote has caused divisions among figures at the top of the party at its conference in Brighton.

Indeed. Do people really imagine that Hamas would set up a democratic state?

Hamas, a organisation created by Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, would be seeking a caliphate and certainly not a democratic state. It was founded in opposition to the more secular PLO with the aim of creating an Islamic state with no distinction made between religion and government, and with the Quran serving as the basis for all aspects of life.

Just how anyone thinks that will translate into one big happy democratic state is anyone’s guess. Those advocating for a one state solution need to read more.

darkdaysareover · 06/10/2026 09:56

Young uni students are an easy target for the Green party so their numbers are growing but like Reform, the Greens will never get in power because most UK voters are not racist extremists.

Douglasmummy · 06/10/2026 09:59

Following the conference, Green leadership issued a unified statement re-affirming that the Greens are "an anti-racist party in every way," fully bound by the Equality Act, and deeply committed to protecting all minority communities—including both British Jews and British Asian groups
Shame they have already demonstrated their disregard for the Equality Act in relation to sex based rights and that one of their leadership, Mothin Ali heavily supported and refused to amend a motion to write in protections for Jewish members who attend Synagogues, which are all 'zionist'. They can say what they like. They all stood by, and Ali actively participated in, a motion that wanted a Palestinian state ' by any means necessary'. They are in no way, shape or form deeply committed to protecting anyone who has a different opinion to them in any way. Polanski has spoken about removing people with right wing views from society. There are people in the Green Party who see the Labour Party as Right wing. So that's basically anyone who disagrees with The Greens ( including presumably most of their MPs) removed from society.

DrBlackbird · 06/10/2026 10:04

And this openly antisemitic motion is just one of many crazy proposed policies.

Along with its manifesto that emphasises welcoming migrants, ending the "hostile environment," and abolishing the Home Office and replacing it with a migration department. I read that some members have called for open borders but have no firm evidence of this though they have called for reducing police budgets, removing use of tasers, decriminalising drugs other than weed, reducing the number of prisons….

They see those actions leading to a socialist utopia and I see those actions leading to crime without consequences. None of it is about the environment.

Absolutely, such ignorance.

Kulwinder54 · 06/10/2026 10:06

None of the current political parties are actually concerned about the environment, they could not care less. It's all about propagating more human beings and giving them benefits for more consumption. Who care if there's no more nature/green space/animals/clean water left....

Open borders?. I'm assuming their perfect Palestinian State will have borders, though.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/10/2026 10:14

I can’t believe what’s happened to the Greens, it’s nuts. I always thought we’d all eventually end up voting Green as environmental issues got more prevalent, now I see a party that has no interest in the environment, is more interested in student politics and appealing to Muslim voters, at the expense of Jews and Women. I wonder who they will target next?

Dappy777 · 06/10/2026 10:15

AgeingMillennial · 04/10/2026 22:12

Well yes. How can you be all for the environment while wanting further immigration into one of the most nature depleted countries in the world?

My local woods have been hacked down to make way for two new housing estates, and a second housing estate has been built at the other end of the village. Now we've been told the fields in the centre of the village are going to be built on as well! 😥At least half the people who've moved onto those new estates were born outside Europe. This pressure on our borders isn't going to stop btw. Africa has the highest birth rate in the world, and the African population is going to double.

Everywhere I go the countryside is being destroyed. Developers are jamming rabbit hutch houses onto every bit of land they can find. Human beings need nature. We need silence and birdsong. It's vital for our mental and spiritual health. But instead of nature, I now have houses, and instead of birdsong all I hear is the screeching and backfiring of souped up cars.

As a labour party supporter, I'm quite glad there is a new home for every entryist, crank and foreign policy single-issue obsessive. You're welcome to them.

Bringemout · 06/10/2026 10:27

Also it’s interesting how “blood and soil” they are about Palestine (which isn’t even accurate, a lot of clans trace their routes to places like egypt from the 18th century and Jews have been continuously present in israel for millennia).Yet blood and soil chat is despicable in the west.

Either only “indigenous” people should be allowed to live on any piece of land and you are faithful to that as a universal value or no-one should be pursuing it as a political ideology. you would have to then be ok with mass expulsion of all minorities from the west, myanmars ethnic cleansing of rohyinga and so on and so on. And good luck proving who’s indigenous and who’s not and at what point in time do we start?

A Hamas leader actually talked about this once and said it didn’t matter if they were indigenous or not because they are arab and the land is dar-al-salam (i.e. once a land has been ruled by muslims it must always be ruled by muslims). Which explains the islamist obsession with Spain.

Also when people suggest a one state solution, they either seem to think people can just work it out or that there will be a massive fight and the arabs will win. Which according to my reading has never happened before, Israel still appears to be there, the most likely outcome would be that Jordan would become Palestine and Gaza and the west bank would end up in Israel. Even if you want Israel to be wiped out it takes quite a lot of magical thinking to assume the arabs would definitely win.

Tbh more than anything else I’m sick of how a conflict thousands of miles of way has taken over domestic politics to this extent. It’s led to terrorism and harassment of a minority group, it’s soaked up so much political energy which should be focused on the UK, wasted police resources because every idiot with a flag needs to be on the street. It’s just gone way too far and the government needs to start coming down hard on all of this shite. The worst of our society have become emboldened and our government sits on its hands and looks the other way.

It's in their manifesto I thought. Not as policy but their wish is to see a world without borders but until that happens they want all those things mentioned above. They also want to break up NATO and have a defence agreement with ' global south' countries instead. So considering the US bankrolls NATO, presumably their policy will be that we bankroll defence for the 'global south' members, as we would be the wealthiest member by far. That would make spending 3% of GDP on defence look like loose change. It would take out the entire budget. But luckily we have thousands of billionnaires to tax ( not millionaires like Rachel Millward just billionnaires).

That is not entirely accurate. The motion was put forward by activists and heavily opposed by the party's top leadership—including four out of five Green MPs, who publicly spoke out against the wording. Furthermore, conference votes become internal policy but do not automatically dictate the general election manifesto.

It is also worth noting that the motion was championed by prominent ethnic minority members, like joint deputy leader Mothin Ali, to oppose oppressive systems. Following the conference, Green leadership issued a unified statement re-affirming that the Greens are "an anti-racist party in every way," fully bound by the Equality Act, and deeply committed to protecting all minority communities—including both British Jews and British Asian groups.

This is exactly the point I made. 1100 activists can dictate policy. There are 200k new members in the last 12 months. There's some joining to do exactly this. The constitution says this is now policy though they can hide it by not putting it on the manifesto. But it is policy and strengthen those who want to normalise hatred of Jews. If you have a system that permits activists to do this then own it. Don't say we didn't really want it, but hey it happened, nothing to see here. Move on.
If the leader is against it why didnt he speak against and his statement after the vote was fairly ambitious deflecting it to a theoretical position, not what was voted on.
The statement about being anti racist is just a statement. It's just words. Why would anyone believe it when they have just adopted the most racist policy of any National Party for decades.
Your post is the start of the minimising and spinning it.

I’d have preferred them to all bugger off to Your Party (is that still going or have they eaten themselves yet?) - or Reform or Restore if they’ve veered round the other end of the circle - and let the Greens evolve into a proper but pragmatically environmentally focussed party which we really do need.

Woodeny · 06/10/2026 10:54

Apparently the Greens have dropped their opposition to nuclear power stations. I detect a dead cat being flung as a means of detracting from the horrors of the weekend. This is undoubtedly a good move but unfortunately about 50 years too late. The reason many European countries enjoy for cheaper and cleaner energy than us is that they embraced nuclear. We are trying to move to renewables without having a backstop and this is unbelievably expensive in terms of the storage and network requirements. Other countries just use nuclear power stations as the backstop. Just as clean and far cheaper.

MidnightFridgeRaider · 06/10/2026 10:56

As Ali noted, the key context for this vote is the heavy Palestinian death toll and the massive, devastating destruction of lives in Gaza and Palestine. For the members who voted for it, this wasn't an attack on British Jews, but a direct response to that ongoing catastrophe—using policy to stand in solidarity against what they view as severe oppression and to call for equal human rights for everyone on that land.

How will formalising antisemitism help? The people of Gaza would be better served if they were saved from Hamas, and allowed the privilege of elections.

I’m shocked at the way they’ve gone. They’re far from the environmental force they purport to be.

They need a change of name - the current one is deliberately deceptive.

I don't want to comment on the current idiocy, but I can say that having had Greens informing SNP policies for years in Scotland they are dangerous.

It’s racist though. The context is irrelevant. And what the hell has Palestine got to do with the UK? What does wasting endless time whanging on about Palestine change? It will have absolutely no effect on what goes on in the Middle East. It’s just a huge waste of everyone’s time and energy. Put that time and energy into change you can effect like improving UK public services even if it is harder to do, not as exciting and means you cannot flaunt your antisemitism as much.

Oh my god, the Greens were the same at the local elections! Their first pledge was "sanctions against Israel" - people wanted local issues addressed like recycling, public transport, pot holes etc.
