The Green Party are an unelectable bunch of extreme soundbites and not environmental at all

The Green Party are more and more extremist. The latest is that supporting the right to Jewish self determination (Zionism) is now racist.

The Green Party are a million miles from the Green Party I voted for years ago. Now full of men that think they are women, accusing people that believe in self determination for their own people as racist. They appear unable to see the division and racism of their own party. Many antisemitic tweets from their members over the last few years.

The Green Party are long gone to a bunch of extreme individuals with not a chance of being elected party.

A woman takes a photo of sign advertising the Green Party conference.

Green Party members back 'Zionism is racism' conference motion

The vote has caused divisions among figures at the top of the party at its conference in Brighton.

They are the oddballs of our society - worryingly given a political mouthpiece. I despise them.

And getting the Gaza vote shows just how dangerous a situation this country is in.

He's had to co opt Hannah Spencer for that!

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The Greens really should remember what happened in Persia in the 1970s.

I think the Greens don’t canvas my house as I am marked as ‘one of those women’ but if I see them canvassing in the street I may offer them a history lesson.

ForGreenHiker · 05/10/2026 14:30

There is context here. The UN General Assembly passed a resolution in 1975 declaring that Zionism is a form of racism. This was lobbied and overturned 2 decades later partly due to pressure from Bush.

In terms of Israel - I can’t see a path to a two state solution anymore. So the creation of a single democratic state in the region seems like the most sensible end goal.

Goatsarebest · 05/10/2026 14:39

The worring thing is that this was carried by around 300 votes out of a couple of thousand voting and has to now become Green (agree they need a name change) policy as per their constitution. So a well organised rump of new ideological membership can now dictate their National Policies. This is exactly how Militant Tendency operated in Labour. They get power on decision making platforms and executive bodies through well organised and motivated individuals and rely on apathy of the majority.
The leader pissed off and wouldn't face it, 4 out of their 5 MPs didn't want this, ex leader and first elected MP didn't want this. Yet 1100 ideologically driven antisemitic fanatics have managed to force a mainstream National Political Party to adopt one of the most extreme prejudicial policies of our time.
I hope the backlash is what they deserve. Starting on Thursday.

This is easy to say ( and dare I say. a pretty colonialist mindset to assume some people in The West have any right to tell people in the middle east what to do) but much, much harder to do. Do you really think there is any future for Jewish people ( or apostates, or any other religious minorities) in a single Palestinian state? The entire region is Muslim. Most of historical Palestine is in Jordan, which is a Palestinian state. If Jews could live happily in Muslim run countries, why have they been expelled and persecuted out of those areas? Where would you tell the Jews to go?

MasterGland · 05/10/2026 14:54

Extremist infiltration aside, the most depressing thing in my opinion is the complete destruction of the crusty greens that I was part of back in the day. Reduce, reuse, recycle. With the overriding emphasis on reduce. Less was the only way forward, simpler lives to prevent further environmental destruction. That message was completely hijacked and now it's all infinity electric cars made with finite lithium grubbed out of the ground by African children. And now it's just extremism and millionaire socialists. So grim.

There is already a single democratic state in the region. It is called Israel.

I travel alot in Eastern amd Central Europe and often vist sites of horrific Jewish massacres in communities, not in the gas chambers. The first thing that strikes you is that alot of it wasn't Nazi implemented. Sure, they wouldn't stop it and might encourage it but a significant number were done by locals turning on their Jewish communities when they were occupied. I travelled around Lithuania last year and town after town had mass Jewish graves that had no Nazi involvement. Same in Slovakia and Hungry and Romania, and more.
I could never grasp how this could happen. How a community could kill halve of its population because of an ideology from Berlin.
I'm really beginning to understand how it can happen now. The takeaway ftom the Greens is we can now say all Jews are racist (though that's not exactly what they said, it's the message that will be heard). One more justification when we want to get violent. Who doesn't hate a racist. Who's going to call me out for attacking a racist. This is how it happens, isn't it. Demonise them and then violence becomes acceptable and even encouraged.
Greens should be ashamed of themselves.

I joined as a life member decades ago, and never in a million years did I imagine it would become the pantomime that it is now. I have not RTT but I have met some of the people who are now The Greens In Exile.

Who are the Greens in Exile? We are a group of long-serving and loyal Green Party members who have been forced out of the Green party.

Thanks for link. I started with the Ecology Party but gave up a good few years ago with Greens. But I'll support this. Proper Greens got some significant policies mainstreamed into the larger Parties and there is still a role for them.

So we have a political party in the UK that hates capitalism, blames all our problems on the rich and the Jews and to cap it off their leader is also vegetarian.

Now what 1930s German political party does that remind you of?

Yes, Hitler and Himmler were animal-loving vegetarians, ironically.

I’m an animal-loving veggies but not of their sort, I hasten to add.

Greens should be ashamed of themselves.

During WW2 only the governments of Denmark, Bulgaria, Finland and Albania actively protected their Jewish residents by refusing to co-operate with their German occupiers.
In every other occupied country (whilst some ordinary people hid jews) the local administrations actually assisted the occupying Nazis to implement their anti-Jewish decrees and exportations (including in the Channel Islands), some with great enthusiasm.

As a result approx. 95% of Danish jews survived the war whilst 95% of Lithuanian jews died.
With the Green Party's new motion it's becoming easier to understand how Governments could have allowed it to happen and how it could happen again.

Newrumpus · 05/10/2026 18:11

I’m not sure that there is much of an understanding about how dangerous this is. There’s not enough outrage about it.

A vile bunch of anti-semitic actors playing at being MPs for the UK. The rest of the party don't even know what's unfolding.

4 of the 5 MPs voted against the “Zionism is racism” motion. It was the rest of the party that passed it, they can’t claim to not know what’s going on, that’s a lazy excuse.

Polanski is absolutely pathetic in his avoidance of it by claiming to he’s too busy in Holborn to vote.

They've also dropped their opposition to nuclear power.

"The motion, adopted at conference, removes a “blanket opposition to nuclear fission” and instead commits the Green party of England and Wales to assessing nuclear projects alongside other low-carbon technologies.

Its electricity generation policy still prioritises offshore wind, onshore wind and rooftop solar as the primary sources of electricity, but allows elected representatives to support new nuclear reactors on a case-by-case basis.

The Green MP Carla Denyer said the decision recognised there was a role for nuclear while the country moved towards an electricity system based primarily on renewables. “This evolution of our policy does not commit the party to backing new nuclear, but accepts this power source is here to stay for now, while we transition to electricity generation based primarily on renewable sources,” she said."

I checked out the greens in exile website yesterday to see if they had anything to say on this. Their slant seems to be to try and persuade the green party back to their original path, but really it's gone too far for that. I could never vote for the Greens again. I hope the Greens in exile can make their minds up to create a new party. There is also the Climate Party..they have a candidate in the upcoming by election.

Yes, a very deliberate move by Polanski. He's under specific orders.

Douglasmummy · 05/10/2026 21:41

He also persuaded a lot of people to leave the conference with him to campaign. 🤔

If he loses the Holborn by election by a significant percentage then he is pretty much finished.

Andrew Feinstein last of Your Party and very pro pal came second to Kier Starmer in 2024 so it's possible this will make him more, not less popular in Holborn and St Pancras.
