The Green Party are an unelectable bunch of extreme soundbites and not environmental at all

The Green Party are more and more extremist. The latest is that supporting the right to Jewish self determination (Zionism) is now racist.

The Green Party are a million miles from the Green Party I voted for years ago. Now full of men that think they are women, accusing people that believe in self determination for their own people as racist. They appear unable to see the division and racism of their own party. Many antisemitic tweets from their members over the last few years.

AIBU

The Green Party are long gone to a bunch of extreme individuals with not a chance of being elected party.

A woman takes a photo of sign advertising the Green Party conference.

Green Party members back 'Zionism is racism' conference motion

The vote has caused divisions among figures at the top of the party at its conference in Brighton.

I cannot understand anybody sane supporting the Greens.
MN is full of "I can't respect best friend/neighbour for supporting Reform" posts. Where is the outrage for this openly misogynistic anti-semitic party?

I know! Concerned women on illegal immigration = racists.
A cult party driven by antisemitism = worthy of votes.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The Greens really should remember what happened in Persia in the 1970s.

I think the Greens don’t canvas my house as I am marked as ‘one of those women’ but if I see them canvassing in the street I may offer them a history lesson.

Edited

Exactly what I've been thinking. I wonder how much history any of these people know.

Andrew Feinstein last of Your Party and very pro pal came second to Kier Starmer in 2024 so it's possible this will make him more, not less popular in Holborn and St Pancras.

There is a substantial Jewish population in that constituency. I'd be surprised if they didn't turn out in force to make sure that Polanski doesn't get elected. I hope to see him utterly humiliated. The only worry is who might replace him. There are so many people who see Green and think 'the environment! I'll vote for them' and have no idea that the environment has slipped right down the Greens' list of priorities.

Actually thinking about it, I wonder if he'll lose the support of Feinsteins supporters too because he didn't vote for and is trying to row back from it. Apparently he was desperate not to stand and asked Feinstein twice if he would join the Greens and stand in his place. Poor Zack knows he's toast if he loses and the Greens for Palestine will attempt a full scale takeover.

Yes, Hitler and Himmler were animal-loving vegetarians, ironically.

I’m an animal-loving veggies but not of their sort, I hasten to add.

No they weren't. That's am urban myth.

It's all very odd. I have friends in the Green Party who are your traditional Friends of the Earth, second hand clothes and sandal wearing vegan Greens. When challenged about the bizarre direction of the party they do seem to be unaware. I can only think at grass roots/individual branch level they don't pay attention to what's going on.

Timsbluetrousers · 06/10/2026 08:47

I'm vegan..I've voted green .. although I struggle with them wanting an end to nuclear weapons..but I decided you can't expect to agree with everything a party does
However the last two main elections ..I definitely didn't vote green ,and while the party is of down numerous rabbit holes that don't have anything to do with being green ..they are most definitely not the party for me

I find this baffling. I joined the Labour Party when I was very young and when it came time to renew my subscription I didn't, because I was aghast at what I had seen in that short time. It was the very early 80s and Militant Tendency was attempting to take over. I vividly remember a woman explaining to me that elections were not necessary and a much better system would be for everything to be agreed by various committees of senior members whose decisions would then be reported to local district meetings that ordinary people would attend (it sounded very much as if she thought they should be forced to attend). 1984 and Animal Farm were fresh in my mind. I knew something about the Stalinist purges. The Cold War was at its height. I couldn't believe that anybody could think Communism and any other form of totalitarianism would be better than democracy. Democracy isn't perfect but it's the least worst system of governance as far as I'm concerned.

If you go to the length of joining a party and paying the subs, why wouldn't you pay attention to what's going on? Wouldn't you be the kind of person who tries to keep up with the news?

Timsbluetrousers · 06/10/2026 08:51

It's actually caused quite a split in our family..we are a family of 6 vegans ..who were all green party voters ..now only my DH is still green ..two went to reform and two to lib dem ,and one floats not really sure where to go ( me )

It’s disgraceful that we have a party like this, deeply shameful. The unholy alliance of islamists and hard left is concerning.

I posted this link before as a good explainer as to the ideology underpinning some of whats going on today. It’s extremely good and I highly recommend the author.

The Third-Worldist Logic

Exactly! The minimising and excusing of anti-semitism is disgusting and worrying. This needs highlighting and repeating until nobody can pretend they didn’t know what was happening.

They have dropped their anti nuclear stance now.

I think they'll also drop Zack P once he has outlived his usefulness, perhaps next year and become even more rabid.

I fully expect them to be there with their infitada banners on the pro Palestinian march planned for 7th Oct (as if we needed more proof, but the date alone proving the march isn't about Palestine at all!).

There is context here. The UN General Assembly passed a resolution in 1975 declaring that Zionism is a form of racism. This was lobbied and overturned 2 decades later partly due to pressure from Bush.

In terms of Israel - I can’t see a path to a two state solution anymore. So the creation of a single democratic state in the region seems like the most sensible end goal.

Didn’t the phrase come from the soviets who were the originators of the elders of zion nonsense.

Plus a one state solution would just result in a lot of dead people, I’m not sure which side would win frankly but nonetheless a lot of dead people.

The worring thing is that this was carried by around 300 votes out of a couple of thousand voting and has to now become Green (agree they need a name change) policy as per their constitution. So a well organised rump of new ideological membership can now dictate their National Policies. This is exactly how Militant Tendency operated in Labour. They get power on decision making platforms and executive bodies through well organised and motivated individuals and rely on apathy of the majority.
The leader pissed off and wouldn't face it, 4 out of their 5 MPs didn't want this, ex leader and first elected MP didn't want this. Yet 1100 ideologically driven antisemitic fanatics have managed to force a mainstream National Political Party to adopt one of the most extreme prejudicial policies of our time.
I hope the backlash is what they deserve. Starting on Thursday.

It's very frustrating but has happened so many times. Take the unions. People join a trade union to get support at work if there's a problem and so that the union can negotiate with management for better pay, pensions, working conditions and so on. They mostly don't bother to vote in the elections for who's going to run the union. It's therefore very easy for the union to be taken over by extremists who get elected on a tiny number of votes.

I saw this 20 years ago when I was a member of UCU. At every election at least half the candidates would say at the start of their statement 'I am a member of UCU Left' and would follow it up with all sorts of stuff about Gaza, boycotting Israel and so on - and very little about the bread and butter issues that were why I was paying my subscription. Eventually I'd had enough and I left.

The obsessives seize the chance to organise demonstrations and boycotts for their favoured causes and lobby the Labour Party to follow suit. They wield a lot of power because of their role within the Labour Party. I genuinely don't understand why ordinary members put up with it.

My husband was merrily intending to vote Lib Dem’s at the last election, until I pointed out they were ‘females can have penises’ loons. He was aghast. He had no idea. That’s the problem when you just put a tick in the same box every election without paying any attention to their actual policies.

I think the european greens are trying to ditch them now, also horrified.

We are also going to have rallies on the 7th October, I’m sure the greens will be front and centre, the behaviour is really vile.

MidnightFridgeRaider · 06/10/2026 09:19

That is not entirely accurate. The motion was put forward by activists and heavily opposed by the party's top leadership—including four out of five Green MPs, who publicly spoke out against the wording. Furthermore, conference votes become internal policy but do not automatically dictate the general election manifesto.

It is also worth noting that the motion was championed by prominent ethnic minority members, like joint deputy leader Mothin Ali, to oppose oppressive systems. Following the conference, Green leadership issued a unified statement re-affirming that the Greens are "an anti-racist party in every way," fully bound by the Equality Act, and deeply committed to protecting all minority communities—including both British Jews and British Asian groups.

Well, here on this thread, look at the vote. And lots of other threads I’ve seen, the antics of the (increasingly misnamed) Greens pretty often feature on the feminism board.

Like many, I’ll have no truck with what the Greens have become or Reform either.

If he loses the Holborn by election by a significant percentage then he is pretty much finished.

We have to worry about who replaces him.
