The Green Party are an unelectable bunch of extreme soundbites and not environmental at all

The Green Party are more and more extremist. The latest is that supporting the right to Jewish self determination (Zionism) is now racist.

The Green Party are a million miles from the Green Party I voted for years ago. Now full of men that think they are women, accusing people that believe in self determination for their own people as racist. They appear unable to see the division and racism of their own party. Many antisemitic tweets from their members over the last few years.

The Green Party are long gone to a bunch of extreme individuals with not a chance of being elected party.

A woman takes a photo of sign advertising the Green Party conference.

Green Party members back 'Zionism is racism' conference motion

The vote has caused divisions among figures at the top of the party at its conference in Brighton.

But his days are limited. Guardian feature on his lack of leadership in controlling the 1 percent who have voted the racist policy through.
What next. We wait with bated breath. It's not going to be great.

Goatsarebest · 09/10/2026 03:40

I wouldn't be labour voter, but that acceptance speach around prople having to believe that politics and voting can make a difference and working with the government to improve the lives of her constituents was dignified and hopeful for people who voted for her. Seems they have elected a rational voice. It could have been so different if they had fallen for the alternative Green.

Twiglets1 · 09/10/2026 07:19

A relief that the Green party didn't win in the by election.

Wouldn't want to see Polanski in the House of Commons spouting his antisemitic nonsense.

ThatCyanCat · 09/10/2026 07:40

Still far too much support for a bunch of antisemitic cranks for my liking, though. I wonder if they'll boot him now or not. On the one hand they might think he's still useful as the (transparent) fig leaf for their antisemitism, on the other they might be confident just having it all out there openly at this point. They might as well.

SevenYellowHammers · 09/10/2026 08:42

Did you all see that Zack said he didn’t vote for that Zionist Is Racism motion? I don’t say that to defend him, I’m a lifelong Labour voter. It makes him weak for letting the motion through without amendment. They did strongly in what was going to be a strong Labour area. They need to regroup, get back to Green politics and hold Governments to account to deal with the emergency we are facing.

Yes I did see that but consider that he deliberately missed the vote (along with Hannah) so that he couldn't be blamed for voting one way or the other.

He is the leader of the Green party and he didn't show any leadership re this vote. Which never should have been allowed to get as far as it did considering the result has tarnished the reputation of the party.

Agree with you that the Green party need to regroup & get back to Green politics. To do that they will need to find a new leader who genuinely does consider environmental issues their main concern.

Won't happen, they have been fully parasitised. Only chance now is to start a whole new party that actually is dedicated to environmental issues, as the Greens originally were, and let people see the contrast and show their support for what they really stand for.

It looks like the antisemites who got slung out of Labour years ago largely migrated to the Greens; a few of them made a pit stop at Your Party on the way.

They did, and Your Party seems to have died.

What happened in the end with all the fees, donations and the membership portal?

He didn't say he c didn't vote. He said he wouldn't have voted for it if he had been there. However I believe there is a proxy voting system in place which he didn't use, so he was too cowardly to actually vote against it. He just said he wouldn't have done it after the fact. He's playing both sides.

He’s trying to, not sure either side is finding it particularly convincing.

Oh yes didn't Jeremy Corbyn accuse Zahra Sultana of taking funds/? Not sure what became of that or even if Your Party is still a thing anymore.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/10/2026 11:01

That’s the thing isn’t it - the Greens have stopped being the Greensand simply become the party of ex Jeremy Corbyn supporters -it’s brought them more votes and probably cash but lost them on my opinion a particular focus - obsessing about very particular world affairs ( I don’t see them constantly bringing up Ukraine) or very particular domestic ones- but no big well rounded picture-

ThatCyanCat · 18/10/2026 10:23

As loathsome as it is, they shouldn't overturn it. It would be unconstitutional. It passed according to their rules and it stands for who they now are.

For the same reason, their weaselly get out clause that would have allowed Jews to belong to synagogues was right to fail too. If you think the mere concept of a Jewish state in the Jewish native land, under any government and within any peace plan, is racist then of course you shouldn't allow members to belong to such a racist organisation that disagrees with your stance. It's totally illogical. So let that stand too. The Greens are now a party who don't want synagogues to exist. Let that stand too. They shouldn't hide what they are now: cranks and antisemites.

And let people now continue with their legal processes as a result of this. And let's see how it washes with the law and society.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/10/2026 10:27

Seems to me that they simply pursue policies that they think will get them elected in particular targeted constituencies.
I certainly don’t seen any of the sort of ‘greenery’ that motivated the original Green Party.

Ugh ... Polanski clarifies that the motion will remain in its current state until at least 2028, as Green Party rules don't allow policies to be changed any sooner than two years.

I agree with @ThatCyanCat here.
I think it should remain, so everyone can see what they have voted for.

It’ll make it more difficult for well-meaning middle class people to pretend the current Green Party is all about peace & the planet.

I find the motion so nasty but I take the point made by yourself and @ThatCyanCat that it provides a dose of reality to the well meaning idiots that the party they support is antisemitic.

Look at it this way: if the motion were "Black people shouldn't be allowed to join organisations that celebrate black culture because it's racist", then obviously that would be a pigshit ignorant, racist, offensive motion. However, if it's what enough people in the party believe, then it doesn't help to overturn it unconstitutionally and pretend it never happened or that it's not what the party stands for. Let it stand, let people see what absolute cranks and turds the people in that party are, let them see that they consider it an offence for black members to join an organisation about black culture... and please, please bring on the lawsuits!

This.

I view the people that vote Green just like the people that vote reform. Both parties are racist or anti semitic or could be both. Vile parties.

I mean these are the people who are still moaning that Jeremy Corbyn accepted the findings about anti semitism in the Labour Party even though he clearly did it with his fingers crossed behind his back. They could be sued into oblivion and it would be the law and the rules who would be wrong, and the reason they haven't won is because of the ' mainstream media's forgetting that the Internet exists. I agree that this is who they are and they should go full pelt lean into it. Don't hide that this is their stance and who they are now. Let them own it and own it fully. As Polanski said, the majority of the people who joined The Greens since 2025 agree with the policy.

I'm careful what I say about him now as one of my posts was deleted. However, I don't believe he has any commitment in overturning the vote anyway, so I not sure why people are turning to him for answers; other than his being the party's joke leader.

ThatCyanCat · 19/10/2026 17:24

I can't stand the rictus-grinned prick and I don't believe anyone is stupid enough not to realise he's a puppet to sanitise and deny the party's antisemitism, whatever they claim. He's a tool and a weapon in all the senses of the words. But it's important to remember that he's not the mastermind, just the cat's paw.
