To think the government need to make disruptive pupil behaviour the parents' problem not the school's?

Low level and more serious disruptive behaviour is having a serious impact on children's education and teachers' health and wellbeing.
I propose a very, very consistent system of mini -exclusions whereby for every instance of low level disruptive behaviour (eg talking when they are not supposed to be talking )
The following procedure applies

1)the child has 3 chances a day.one initial warning One final warning and on the third occasion the child is sent to the office and the parents sre summoned.
2) The parent must be at the school within 60 minutes of the call
3) From the time the child leaves the school they are not allowed back until both
a) a full 24 (not counting weekends) has elapsed.
AND
b) the parent has completed an hour long very interactive virtual parenting course.Tbis happens every time the child receives a mini exclusion

If the parent fails to present themselves at tge school within the 60minutes this is treated as child abandonment and an escalating series of fines imposed, followed eventually by prosecution
If the course isnt done in time for the child go return to school after the 24 hour mini exclusion, then this is treated as unauthorised absence.
In cases of hitting ,swearing. Spitting etc no chances are given.
The parents and their employers are going to getboretty sick of this pretty quickly and sort their kids out.

They don’t have an answer for this. They just want to stamp their feet and yell “do your job” and it be done

This is not an argument. Another poster on here said 70% of pupils "have no manners" - well, I find it hard to believe. Unless the standard of what she expects is somehow unreasonably high.

My experience is that teachers expect children to sit still, never talk, never move, never turn around. TBH I think not even many adult would be able to do that for a whole 40-45 minutes!

It is. It’s horrible to know what a sizeable percentage of adults think of my child. That he’s essentially a feral little shit who should be kept out of the way of the good kids who deserve an education, whereas mine apparently does not.

“No, schools don’t have to accept that parents will not be contactable at any point…”

so… what are they going to do about it?

you and I both know they can do fuck all. So they have to accept it

Our head used to phone social services and they would collect the child. Caused the parents a lot more trouble than finishing work early.

I have a good kid. I don’t say that, her teachers do(she saves the unwanted behaviours mostly from home, on the autism assessment waiting list).Guess what? Even she talks. More than once. She’d also be sent home and miss on education by OP’s standards. Tbf every single child would. Great idea.🙄

I have a good kid too, with a disability.

I envy the people on this thread who feel entitled to their righteous indignation through their sheer ignorance.

It almost keeps me awake at night, wondering what the heck we are going to do with all these aggressive unemployable adults in 15 years, having spent £££ on SEN and it got us nowhere. Can’t see it improving

Sure social services came zooming straight round, to gather up the child of a loving parent who just isn’t allowed their phone on the shop floor or whatever.

Yup! And afterwards I imagine everyone clapped for the super cool teachers who's authority was then established as incontrovertible!

Back in the real world, human life is complicated, and schools generally are reasonable places that work alongside their families.

I like this post. Mn is full of doom and gloom about teens, and it doesn't represent my experience, either of my own teens and their friends, or if the teens I work with.

You are trying to be goady but im not rising.
Nobody said students should not talk. They should not talk when the teacher is speaking or when they have expesdly been told to be silent and they also get 2 warnings.
Is your kid so disrespectful as to speak over her teacher three times every day?
Imagine 30 kids in a class and they all haveito be told to shut up 3 times a day. That's 90 times the teacher is breaking off every day duringbthe zhort amount of time the little darlings are asked to be quiet- which would bevsay during teacher input assembley, lining up do maybe a max of 2 hours at primary.Interrupted nearly once a minute.
NOW do you get the issue?🙄🙄

Where do you get off saying the state need to mandate how we parent our children?

if screen are that damaging why doesn’t the state put laws and protections in around them?!

Because then the state would be telling you how to parent and you don't want that!

Adults have been despairing of the younger generation since Shakespearean times. Strangely the world seems to soldier on.

We know far more about child development now than we ever did before. Things like corporeal punishment are (mainly) not socially acceptable. Dads are far far more involved with caring for their dc. Children stay in education past 14 and aren't shipped off to work. Childhood malnutrition is hugely reduced since the welfare state.

I'd say there are lots of ways parenting is better than it's ever been before!

Surely a teacher wouldnt be telling kids to “shut up”?

We can barely get SS to intervene properly in actual cases of abuse and neglect. Even when they do it takes ages.
