To sleep in the garden tonight

My beautiful dog is going to be put down tomorrow. Shes in pain and the cool air and grown outside seems to offer some relief. She doesnt like to be alone. So I'm thinking about just sleeping in the garden to join her. But im aware that for one I'm grieving and thats clouding my judgement and for two I don't have the most clear judgement anyway.

I should add I'm a scout leader so I'm not afraid of the elements. Its dry and pretty temperate here tonight and I have a lovely double sleeping bag to cosy up in.

Aibdriven mad from grief or should I go for it?

I'm so sorry that you and your family are facing this. It's the hardest part of being a pet parent. 😭
They love us so, so much and this is our last act of love for them to relieve their suffering.😢

I'm so sorry. Thinking of you today OP. What a beautiful dog.

We're having a lovely relaxed day. Lots of tears, treats and endless cuddles.

Star is starting to go off food. She didnt even want any curry and she loves curry. Me and dson(the closest to her out of the kids) have spent ages in the garden with her in my big sleeping bag.

Stars sleeping deeply today, but struggles to get comfortable considering she has boney growths in her shoulder. It's definitely time and that hurts so so bad.

Oh it's just so hard, isn't it? We had to make this decision for our cat a few months ago. I know that we did the kindest thing we could have done for him at that point, but it doesn't make it any easier to lose your friend. Lots of us are thinking of you right now, @NotQuiteUsual

Shes gone. Part of my soul is gone too.

I am so sorry. I wish there was something I could say that would ease your pain. I was a toddler when my first ever dog passed away. He helped me toddle, apparently. He was a golden retriever and would stand in the queue for the ice-cream van with a bag of coppers attached to his collar.

When I was 5, I had my first puppy and she passed away when I was 19!! I used to dress her up in dolly hats and take her for a walk in my dolls pram. She loved it.

You love a lot of animals and you lose a lot of animals. Yet you will never lose the joy, experience, and memories they brought into your life.

I am dreading the day I lose the ones I have now, the ones helping me raise my own family. For now, that is hopefully a long way off, thus I'll cherish every moment with them.

eeemes · 01/10/2026 19:59

Bless you, it sounds like you gave Star an amazing life 💔

Laurmolonlabe · 01/10/2026 20:01

Go for it, but be aware you will be very cold, anything outside the sleeping bag will be cold enough to stop you sleeping, probably.

Do it. You can always go back inside later on if you need to, but I feel like you will regret it if you don't try.

And big hugs for tomorrow.

Glad you managed part of the night. Sorry you are going through this. Hope you had a lovely evening, under the open sky and the stars x
