To sleep in the garden tonight

My beautiful dog is going to be put down tomorrow. Shes in pain and the cool air and grown outside seems to offer some relief. She doesnt like to be alone. So I'm thinking about just sleeping in the garden to join her. But im aware that for one I'm grieving and thats clouding my judgement and for two I don't have the most clear judgement anyway.

I should add I'm a scout leader so I'm not afraid of the elements. Its dry and pretty temperate here tonight and I have a lovely double sleeping bag to cosy up in.

Aibdriven mad from grief or should I go for it?

So sorry for your loss x

TheSunIsAlwaysThere · 01/10/2026 20:12

Oh. That has really hit me. I am so sorry. Star looked a lovely dog and one my dog would have wanted to say hello to.

I have three pets and all are poorly in a way. It's so hard.

wanttokickoffbutcant · 01/10/2026 20:12

Oh hugs to you and DDog. How much love they had and glad you had a good last day.

Blueeyedmale · 01/10/2026 20:13

Im so sorry for your loss, remember the happy memories that you shared,I remember having to put my border collie/ jack Russell to sleep it was 15 years ago but I still miss her so much my parents got her for my 14th birthday.

You shared beautiful moments together, you gave Star a beautiful and amazing life my thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

SendforJulietOne · 01/10/2026 20:17

I’m so sorry. I wanted to share this with you, it brought me so much comfort when my dog passed away. It’s a massive loss, and I hope you can cherish the time you had together, and for making star’s last day so wonderful for her.

“Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....“

Shes gone. Part of my soul is gone too.

I am so sorry. Idk what your beliefs are. Mine are that this is a journey and our souls are linked to the ones we love and who love us. Xx

NoodleHorses · 01/10/2026 21:03

I am so sorry for the decision that you needed to make. It’s our final act of love to our beloved pets. sending love from our home to yours. My dogs are sending you waggy comfort.

grinandslothit · 01/10/2026 21:04

I'm so sorry to hear about your lovely girl. It sounds like she had the most brilliant last days a dog could possibly have with her loving family Flowers

Prangie · 01/10/2026 21:12

Sending you love and a hug! It's horrible, I know. One thing that helped me when our dog, my beloved collie, left us was that 'the grief you feel now is a reflection of the love you showed her when she was alive.' As I was utterly distraught, it felt strangely comforting. xxx

CowardlyCravenCunt · 01/10/2026 21:13

I’m so sorry. Your love for her shines through. Her last days sound perfect.

JMSA · 01/10/2026 21:29

So, so sorry. And yes, go for it. She is blessed to have had such a lovely owner x

Thankxalotl · 01/10/2026 21:34

It’s devastating I know but she was telling you when she wouldn’t eat curry that it was time. You’ve done the kindest thing. x

WhyCantThingsJustBeEasy · 01/10/2026 21:37

RIP Star ❤️ Sending hugs for you and your family ❤️

DoYouWantHalfThisSandwich · 01/10/2026 21:45

I’m so very sorry @NotQuiteUsual 💔 From your last post it sounds like you & DS gave Star the loveliest of days, & she will have felt your love like you felt hers. I know at this moment it feels like the cruelest of decisions,
but someone once said to me a day too early, rather than a day too late - I’ve always tried to keep that in mind when making this awful decision because it’s true (Not that it helps right now, I know).
Run free over Rainbow Bridge Star with all the other bestest doggos 🌈 There’ll be endless swimming for you & the other Newfs there (All my friend’s Newfs will be waiting for Star, ready to look after her for you OP). Big hugs to you & your family tonight & for the coming days, weeks x

Maighnuad · 01/10/2026 22:03

Do it. You will never get this day back. I am so sorry to hear this btw.

rottweilersrock · 01/10/2026 22:10

So very sorry 😢
Sweet dreams Star ❤️🐾🌈

The6thQueen · 01/10/2026 22:44

I slept on the floor with my girl for her last few nights. She was sore and woke a lot. I’d find her snuggled into me each morning. It’s been 7 years and I hold those memories very close. You won’t regret it for a second, even if you get no sleep at all. Thinking of you tomorrow and sending much love your way x
edited to add, I’m very sorry for not reading the full thread. I’m glad she had such a special last day with you xx

LancashireButterPie · 01/10/2026 22:57

Aww Mate, they break your heart into pieces.
RIP Star.
🌈

KTMeetsTheRsUptown · 01/10/2026 23:46

So sorry for your loss 💐😢
Thanks for sharing the photos. Star was such a beautiful girl and it sounds like you gave her the best last days possible. Seeing her in her DoggyHut reminds me of my Staffy/Pitt cross who couldn't walk in the end due to Cushings Disease and had a DoggyHut too. She went to sleep 10 years ago😢. They tell you with their eyes and actions when its time to say goodbye, as your Star did when she refused her fav curry. You did the best thing possible letting her go. You'll always have your memories. Thinking of you and your family ❤️

MyCrushWithEyeliner · 01/10/2026 23:52

Sorry she’s gone, was thinking of you, Star and this thread today
