What would the Left call the Right, if the small boat people were white?

I'll start by saying, I am very anti open boarders, and I am horrified that so many illegal immigrants are arriving every day. But for me, it has absolutely nothing to do with skin colour, it is more to do with :

ONE) They have no documentation, and we have no idea if they have criminal backgrounds

TWO) They tend to come from cultures where women are not respected

THREE) They often come from places where rape is not a crime

FOUR) They cannot work, and it is costing Millions to house, feed and clothe them

FIVE) We are granting asylum to some people who should never get it - like the Hamas bodyguard we heard of yesterday

Lots of valid reasons I feel, however, for me, it has nothing to do with skin colour. If I had to be locked in a room overnight with a white man from a backward culture, or a black man from the UK, I would choose the latter, every single time.

It isn't colour, it's culture

But I see that people on the Far Left just scream "Racist" to anyone who opposes illegal immigration. What would they scream, if all the small boats were full of white men? And would people still march for England?

  1. It may suprise you that people who are enjoying being in power in their own country rarely decide to give that up to travel halfway across the world to choose a life of poverty where people like you openly hate them
  2. Whilst no process is perfect, the whole point of the asylum process is to investigate as far as possible to understand people's circumstances and what is plausible and genuine. That's one of the reasons it takes a long time. No one gets off a boat, decides they're known as John Smith, and gets sent on their merry way, contrary to popular reformer belief.
  3. In countries like Afghanistan, the UK has a decent amount of intelligence on those in power and their supporters because of how long our forces were there.

Ok so apart from the hyperbole you don’t have a way to check.

Yellowshire · 29/09/2026 16:55

Once you accept that for a large proportion of posters on Mumsnet, calling people racist is their only engagement in politics, it all becomes a lot clearer.

It's not worth worrying about.

Somerford · 29/09/2026 16:41

Did we royally screw up Afghanistan? Tony Blair and The Labour Party have a lot of blood on their hands for sure, but as I said previously they were under Taliban rule before and they're under Taliban rule again now. Is it any less safe there now than it was before, save for a small number of people who assisted Nato forces?

Your comments on Pakistan and India are reliant on acceptance of the idea that erstwhile colonial rule makes the UK responsible for all problems in those countries forever. Where parts of Pakistan are unsafe, the problem tends to be Islamist insurgency or sectarianism. I'm not at all interested in taking responsibility for the internal squabbles amongst the various sects of Islam.

Re Pakistan, We stole from their country for 200 years, and we still perpetuate modern slavery by relying on cheap labour there, to this day. At partition, still in living memory, we displaced 20 million people and we were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Would you think it should just have been forgotten about by now, if that were your parents/grandparents generation?

Just because you want that to be forgotten about in an instant doesn't mean it's a morally or legally the right thing to do.

Yes, of course! Asylum seekers are leaving horrible regimes, war-torn lands and persecution - otherwise they wouldn't be leaving. That said, refugees do not commit more crime than anyone else.

Could you please provide a link to the data showing that in areas where there are large numbers of single male asylum seekers, there is no evidence of an increase in crime - in particular serious sexual crimes - in those specific areas? Showing this evidence to the local communities involved is surely the best way to allay fears and reassure them of the safety of women and young girls.

Personally no, but then I'm not the home office. There are people whose job it is to do that though. Out of interest, did you know that reform want to CUT the departments that do that work?

Genuine question - if you had to spend one hour in a locked hotel room, with 5 men from Syria/Afghanistan/Iran, that had arrived yesterday on a small boat, or 5 men from, say, Milton Keynes/Edinburgh/Oxford, which option would you choose, and why?

The departments don’t either, that’s the problem.

I didn't ask for it to be forgotten about, on the contrary. It's an important part of our history and theirs, it likely always will be.

What I asked you was how that had made Pakistan "unsafe" in 2026, because that's what you rely on to place moral obligations on the UK in the present day.

I vote that reform voters should go live in those countries. Because they always seem to argue online for things that are common in totalitarian states, like detaining people, the death penalty/harsher prison sentences, allowing vigilantes/retribution, reducing taxes for the wealthy, policing what women wear, and making women stay at home looking after children.

Oh look, you didn't answer the question. What a surprise. You're fooling nobody.

moderate · 29/09/2026 17:06

Pumpkindice · 29/09/2026 16:50

You won't answer the question you deflect with a stereotypical attack, typical reformer. You missed out woke but you're pretty much following their script

"The question" was just whataboutery designed to distract from the point we all know: that women and LGBT people would suffer much worse in the countries whose men we're importing. You're not fooling anybody.

They don't understand per capita do they

EmeraldShamrock000 · 29/09/2026 17:10

Who knows. No doubt there would some other vile gaslighting accusations throwing about.
The funny thing is, being concerned around mass immigration doesn’t equal right wing.
It is infuriating.
I would be left on a few issues outside of mass immigration and transitioning of minors.

Most of them understand it full well, but will be ostracised by their in-group unless they pretend not to.

"there's no data" - "hmm that data's not very good"

Lots of our neighbours in the EU have such good clear data but they ignore it

It's all they know how to do.

"I'm done here."
"I'm not wasting my time arguing with you."
"You're just a racist and I'm not going to engage."

Or my personal favourite:
"You're fascist! You ought to be locked up for your fascist views."
(Sorry, who's the fascist in this scenario?)

Iran is so dangerous that people from the UK are told never to travel there. Craig and Lindsay Foremen ignored that advice, and are now rotting in an Iranian jail. But fear not ladies, if you can't go to Iran, we will bring the Iranian men to you.....lovely jubbly.

They were not imprisoned by Iranian men, though. They were imprisoned by the government. Count your blessings that you don't (yet) live under autocracy. Many people do and are at risk due to not aligning politically with their government. And those very people are often (not always) looking for safety as refugees. So again - xenophobia in action right here.

Who is saying anything about offering asylum to anyone who wants it? Each claim would have to be assessed on its own merits, of course.

I don't buy the argument that we're a small island that's "full", but there is a case for having a system to manage the numbers. Personally, I would like to see the government opening up safe and legal routes so that the process can be managed more effectively, with appropriate investment in infrastructure and support for integration etc.

Full....try thinking about the fact the government state we have to build 250,000 houses per year. Despite the birth rate being essentially zero.

Try reading the thread about the delays in cancer treatment

Try thinking about the 1.5 million unemployed

Try thinking about the massive increase in rental property prices but stagnant wages during the period of open EU borders

That's why we are full

Peer-reviewed studies using the Violence Against Women Scale find that up to 92% of married women in Tehran have experienced lifetime IPV (with ~91% psychological, 46.7% physical, and 41.4% sexual abuse).
