What would the Left call the Right, if the small boat people were white?

Blondiebeachbabe · 29/09/2026 13:19

I'll start by saying, I am very anti open boarders, and I am horrified that so many illegal immigrants are arriving every day. But for me, it has absolutely nothing to do with skin colour, it is more to do with :

ONE) They have no documentation, and we have no idea if they have criminal backgrounds

TWO) They tend to come from cultures where women are not respected

THREE) They often come from places where rape is not a crime

FOUR) They cannot work, and it is costing Millions to house, feed and clothe them

FIVE) We are granting asylum to some people who should never get it - like the Hamas bodyguard we heard of yesterday

Lots of valid reasons I feel, however, for me, it has nothing to do with skin colour. If I had to be locked in a room overnight with a white man from a backward culture, or a black man from the UK, I would choose the latter, every single time.

It isn't colour, it's culture

But I see that people on the Far Left just scream "Racist" to anyone who opposes illegal immigration. What would they scream, if all the small boats were full of white men? And would people still march for England?

So which part of what i said is not true? it’s not virtue signalling to tell the truth about british culture.

The context in which you said it was comparative -- risibly so.

There are limited data sources as the stats are only just being recorded, however this may help you:
https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/migrants-and-crime-in-the-uk/

Also, look at Refuge, Women's Aid, ONS, pretty much every police force and they all agree that in most instances (the high 90 percent) violence against women is perpetrated by someone known to the victim. Often their partner or a relative.

Thank you. It will be interesting to see what the data show once these are available.

Thank you. It will be interesting to see what the data show once these are available.

I don't suppose it will be any time soon, and, while there will inevitably be a small increase, I don't suppose it will be significant for all the reasons stated already.

In this country, a woman is far more likely to be attacked by someone she knows, and / or a protestor at an anti immigration protest than they are an actual immigrant.

Yes. As always, statistics can be manipulated into the sound bites required at the time. For example, we are all going to die at some point, and many of us eat baked beans. QED baked beans must kill you, eventually.

If you read the article I linked to, the majority of incarcerated men who are not British nationals are actually not Afghan at all. And also, it depends on what the comparison is. The reality is that a staggering amount of men both British and otherwise are never actually convicted of anything. The percentage you reference could be over a sample size of 25 people which would be an additional 3 people.

The question I responded to was about asylum seekers specifically where there is a minimal increase in the percentage (1%), and there are several studies referred to including the migration observatory's own that also state that migrants (not just asylum seekers) have no impact on the stats.

Thus, it is necessary to dip into the data a bit in order to understand it and form an opinion, as opposed to quoting a headline. Otherwise nobody will ever buy baked beans again.

there are several studies referred to including the migration observatory's own

The other studies in the table only use data from 2002 - 2010, or data for EEA migrants 2003 - 2017. 'The available studies are few and now quite old (Table 1).'
There is no specific focus on sex offences in the table studies, only two broad categories: violent crime and property crime. However, Figure 5 in your link shows that foreign nationals are underrepresented when it comes to convictions for violence against the person (9.2% 2024) and overrepresented when it comes to convictions for sex offences (15.4% 2024).

If you read the article I linked to, the majority of incarcerated men who are not British nationals are actually not Afghan at all.

Your link does make a reference to Afghan nationals;

In general, convictions in 2021 tended to be lower among citizens of higher-income regions and higher among citizens of lower-income ones. Among the 50 largest individual nationalities, some were underrepresented in the [general] convictions data, including Indians, Pakistanis, French, and Chinese. Others were overrepresented, such as Albanians, Iraqis, and Afghans.

Note that these figures are for non-citizens only, and do not include naturalised citizens or UK-born ethnic minorities. For example, the Census indicated that, as of March 2021, the majority of people born in Afghanistan had become UK citizens.

Yes, it does, but if you read further, the majority of incarcerated males are Polish and Irish.

If you are hell bent on finding evidence that supports your assumptions, you will, but it is not the danger you think it is.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/09/2026 22:21

Dickheads probably

I think, though, that the far right wouldn’t be as upset about the boats if the occupants were white - I think that’s why people call them racist.

I am not saying that anyone and everyone should be allowed to come to the Uk, but yelling “stop the boats!” is an over simplified response to a problem with complex causes that requires a complex response.

People need to discuss these things rationally, not just come up with slogans or turn up at ports etc in balaclavas.

Do you think committing a crime while you are having an asylum claim processed is respectful to the host country?

The majority per capita or the absolute majority?
Or do you not even know what the difference is?

The absolute majority.

And yes I do know what it means. Clearly you don't to use the term in this context.

The connection with colonialism can go take a running jump.

”We” invaded other countries and stole their resources did we?

Who’s we? The poorer people of Britain are the ones who were disenfranchised first and chucked into factories, on long hours and low pay, and we have been seeing those times return for the last few decades. Our supposed benefit from cheap labour overseas could equally well be read as our screwing over by the making of cheap crap overseas being dumped on local markets - that is becoming equally obvious now. Some of us wanted fair trade over ‘free trade’, so called, with working plebs around the world.

If you want to give compensation then take the Crown Jewels and the aristo’s descendants’ bloody art works, but the land here was never theirs to take or give. By the way, there are very very few places in the world where Europeans rocked up in their millions to places that were already overpopulated by natives.

Edited

That’s literally the point - the people fleeing Afghanistan are as much the Taliban as ordinary Brits were/are ‘the British Imperial Project’. And yet everyone here is banging on as if every asylum seeker is a taliban leader.

It’s not about ‘compensation’, understanding that history is how we understand what’s going on in the present, on both sides. If one actually wants to understand rather than just froth over popular media narratives built on emotion rather than evidence…

and I won’t even get into what you mean by ‘natives’ in historical or contemporary context 😅

washingmysocks · 29/09/2026 22:52

LuckyHazelFox · 29/09/2026 20:37

Who's saying they are superior to foreigners? Colonialism is often used to make ordinary every day people feel guilty. You don't need to be afraid of having your opinion, I'm not.

Literally half this thread is people arguing that certain cultures aren’t fit to be in the UK mixing with us! Describing some cultures as more ‘civilised’ than others!

it’s not about feeling guilty it’s about understanding why we’re all in the place we’re in. I personally think that’s very important, if we want to find effective solutions.

moderate · 29/09/2026 23:03

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 29/09/2026 19:03

I'm not comparing at all. I'm simply stating that we don't generally prosecute people for rape in this country either, so let's be honest about that as well.

Yeah, you’re not comparing, because an actual comparison would belie your attempt to “both-sides” this.

Do you deny that some cultures are more civilised than others?

EasternStandard · 29/09/2026 21:01

It’s relevant on this thread given it’s about systems of entry into the country.

it’s not though is it? I’m speaking purely on the OPs points re; the way women are treated by ‘immigrants’ when the fact of it is, here is not any better in how women are treated. The idea that if we just stopped letting ‘them’ in all the women in this country would be safe. The fact is they wouldn’t be.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Women's rights in Afghanistan are obviously not comparable with women's rights in the UK. That is so obvious that it shouldn't be to be spelt out.

Well let’s start with, say, how a culture treats women and LGBT people.

Yellowshire · 29/09/2026 23:21

You will never get liberal women to agree there is anything wrong with what is happening. Never. It's a waste of time. They enjoy sanctimony.
