To cancel a day out over breezy attitude?

Not sure if im being unreasonable here or expecting a little too much as I struggle to make friends and feel a bit disheartened with this situation.

I'm off work this week and have some childfree time to myself. I asked a friend if they fancied doing something like go fo a walk. They took a while to respond but eventually with a backhanded comment "sure a walk tomorrow then, what time?", I responded with a time and meeting place which was read and nothing further. We are due to meet tomorrow and haven't heard anything more from them since then.

A similar thing happened a few weeks ago when i invited them to lunch, had a great time (i paid) and went for an hour walk afterwards. Then I got ghosted or semi causal/vague responses to messages after that. I feel a bit disheartened that i get a sense they are just not interested and trying to placate me.

This has taken a lot of effort for me to put myself out there and make friends, instigating more rather than being led. I guess thinking a little enthusiasm or reciprocation would be nice but am I expecting too much? Is this actually how friendships are? Should I cancel and just move on from this situation?

We have all been subjected to drama of one kind or another. The trick is to walk away from it and not engage, rather than stewing over it and allowing it to poison all subsequent friendships.

True, but don't think OP was stewing over it.

Not people I would be friends with

That's good.

Are you friends with drama seeking people?

I mentioned in my posts you quoted.

I think you are overthinking it. Perhaps she has just been busy - my friendship group can often go a few weeks without messages, then we’re back planning something. All of us juggling work/kids/life/homes.

Also, you might be keen to meet up on a day off but perhaps she wants her own time? I dont generally meet friends on my day off as its my day to get things done at home, run errands and have some peace! Usually see friends at the weekend and my day off is ‘protected’ for me.

I’d send a quick msg saying ‘still up for a walk but no problem if you’re busy’ and leave it at that. If you do meet up, perhaps ask her if she feels like meeting up in the week or is there a better time that works for her.

Qoute history will show you I did mention my friendships status.

Also, @MaybeOverthinkerNightmare , I don't know why, but I'm getting the sense that this individual might only be interested in seeing you if there's something in it for them. Maybe I'm influenced by my own experience of being taken advantage of, but alarm bells are ringing (on your behalf!).

I agree

the Op very pointedly doesn’t ever say “she”

I reckon this is a man. And she maybe wanted a relationship with. And he’s flakey

What's your problem with how many friends I choose to have 🤔.

My issue is that you seem to have given up on every single one of your friends aside from one because all drama seeking.

I find that curious

Beingseenisneedy · 29/09/2026 18:38

Why is it an issue to you though?

seem being the operative word in your post.

I don't have an issue with my friendships status and didn't ask for help or pity.

I think it's highly likely that she saw this thread and was very understandably upset

This. I'd be furious if it were me. Very unfortunate

Lemonbiccie · 29/09/2026 19:11

@Beingseenisneedy were your drama llama friends that are no more all part of the same group? Or different friends from different warps of life?

The irony of self-righteous users pouring over this thread then shaking their head disapprovingly at the OP for writing the thread.

Very unfortunate.

Lemonbiccie · 29/09/2026 19:24

I would bet a lot that this wasn’t a woman friend

HoraceCope · 29/09/2026 19:24

that was a rude cancellation
your instinct was right op
