Panic buying next week?

Ok very random but I work in retail and we’ve been told to expect panic buying/shortages on fuel next week due to something big happening. Am I really naive as when I was told this I have no idea what it is about? I do read the news in the morning but I haven’t seen anything that would relate to this?

My guess is everyone has heard the government advice to stock up, but many people can’t afford to buy extra without budgeting. Next week is payday for people who are paid monthly, so they will stock up.

I’ve thought it myself. We live on a farm and are quite self sufficient, but I did think, oh after we get paid on Wednesday, maybe I’ll go and buy the extra rice and beans and the water purification tablets I keep saying I should buy.

I’m the most non-conspiracy theorist sort of person, but I’ve been thinking about it for awhile and the government announcement did remind me.

@LorenaWoodnot sure what the face is for? I genuinely just want to know if people know what it could be as when I’ve spoken to people in real life they have said they have heard some similar things but haven’t gone in to detail

Im not trying to join in with the panic, I’m asking for opinions on a chat group. Kind of the point of the site.

I haven’t seen anything in the press either, but an acquaintance of DH sent him a photo of a petrol price of £2.40 a litre, on a major petrol station chain today. They said petrol will be £3.50 a litre by Xmas and diesel will run out in 6 weeks. Something to do with an attack on a Russian refinery.

@Thecatspantaloonsits not a ‘faux’ anything. I genuinely have no idea what it could be. Hence the question.

But think about it, how could someone know now, that next week something will happen to cause panic buying. And even though it’s a secret, they’ve told everyone who works in retail?

I've also read the £3.00 a litre on diesel story today. Apparently Trump is deciding wether to stop the export of diesel and if he does we are basically screwed.

@Lifejigsawwell that’s my initial thoughts and my DH said the same that it’s just nonsense and I should ignore it but I just wondered if I had missed something big in the news or anything. Thank you for your reasonable response

There have been reports on many news sites for weeks now carrying government advice for households to stock up on basic supplies including water.
A simple google search will provide further information.

Wednesday 28th October UK budget. Nothing is going to get any cheaper, quite the opposite. I guess people will stock up on fuel, booze, fags and anything else that is likely to go up. It Isn’t rocket science.

I actually do have a lot of posting history I just changed my username for this. Mumsnet is ridiculous sometimes though and people just love to come on and insult people for not reason. I won’t comment again as it’s pointless. I’ll wait and see next week. Hopefully what I have been told is wrong but if not then I’ll be back next week 😊
