I cannot believe I am typing this but my now ex “partner”of 2 years has given me an ultimatum. Have an abortion and we carry on as a couple, or keep the pregnancy and I will never see his face again. As soon as he said this, we were done!

His initial reaction was apprehensive - I thought it was fair. But I NEVER would have imagined hed do a runner. When I first told him I was pregnant he made it clear that he wasn’t going anywhere - it just wasn't the best time. 3 days later he gave the ultimatum. He was as cold as ice.

He’s being manipulative and saying “don’t let any man tell you what to do, if you want to keep it, that’s fine, but I will not be there”. He had a truth dump and admitted to being a terrible father to his other two kids, beating them, being abusive, and basically not enjoying fatherhood. He loves them “sometimes” but cannot stand the responsibility. The entire time we were together I never met his kids but he claimed to be father of the year, pretending to see them and be with them.

I’ve cut contact with him and blocked him yesterday!

Hes ruined this. He was the one who told me not to take the morning after pill! We agreed we would see what would happen regarding family planning and a baby. Hed go up and down but always maintained it woild be a good thing.

i had a bad feeling that I’ve misjudged who this man is and contacted his ex who I have never spoken to.

she was an Angel and told me he has not seen his other two kids properly in two years due to social services intervention because he badly best their 9 year old. On top of that he was just a terrible terrible partner that financially abused her and beat her. He wouldn’t turn up to visits, ignore them for months at a time. No birthday cards….nothing. He also refused to divorce her and she had to get it done via court order. He told me they were divorced 3 weeks into us dating. The amount of lies exposed in our conversation was something out of a Netflix documentary. He told me she was a housewive….turns out she had 3 jobs while he paid for nothing. When her son was a baby she came home and he had bitten him! Hes a stranger. A stranger. I’m broken.

I basically have been with a compulsive liar and sociopath who saw our relationship as a bit of fun. I ignored a lot of red flags because I’m 34 abojt to turn 35 in December and I’m scared. I’m kicking myself for letting my loneliness consume me.

I don’t want to be pregnant anymore but already had a termination at 31 and cannot bring myself to take the pills. I feel no connection to the pregnancy anymore because of him, and am scared I’m romanticising motherhood out of fear of it not happening for me.

you know how some woman say “F U, I’m keeping it!”. That’s not me! It sounds horrible but I’d love to just have a miscarriage to take the choice out of my hands. I have no desire to be a single mother or raise the child of a compulsive liar. I don’t think I can love this child and heal from his lies. I’m also petrified this is my last chance to be a mum. I guess I’m clinging on to being pregnant - I felt so special and giddy in those short three days before my world was turned upside down.

please give advice and be soft with me. I want to be a mum but not like this. The abortion just feels….wrong. I’m 34 about to be 35. What if I never meet anyone? What if I do but we can’t get pregnant. The abortion I had at 31 was a massive massive relief. This feels like the hardest thing ever. I see no good outcome. Children abandoned by a parent seem to have a lot of trauma no matter how big the village.

my head is saying get rid of it and feel horrible because you deserve to. Deep down inside you knew who this man was and you played with fire because you were desperate. If you don’t have kids after this - that’s the way the cookie crumbles. The other side of my head is saying that I’m just grieving a massive loss and I will forgive him, come to peace with this, and love my child.

please give it to me straight and share your experiences because my brain is fried. I’m 5 weeks + 4

I think regardless of what you decide to do with the baby, you need to get rid of the man.

Abortion, then LTB.

Right
I’d have a termination and get rid of the man to be honest
there will be other chances to have a baby with the right person

Whyherewego · Today 14:10

Yep so ypur choices are abortion or be a single mother with little to zero support at best and at worst a really unpleasant ex in your life.
I am sorry and this is a tough decision. In your shoes I would probably abort but I am not in your shoes and so none of us cam really give you that advice. I do know this man is not good for you either way

Thundertoast · Today 14:11

I am so sorry you are in this position.
My concern is that if he changed his mind, he might end up with access to your child. By having this baby, you would be putting a child in the hands of an abuser. Im really sorry.

Bobcurlygirl · Today 14:12

Oh dear lord.. Bless you, so much to unpick.
First of all get rid of the pathological liar. Him threatening that you will never see him again is a "win" anyway.
You really need some local help with this - do you have a relative or close friend you can tell. I Dont think any of us can advise on whether you keep the baby but all of your feelings and concerns are valid and I can understand your concerns. Please look after yourself and make sure he can't physically hurt you as his ex has suggested he is abusive.

NattyEagle · Today 14:13

Hey everyone - him and I are done. Thanks for your responses and I’ve edited my post.

I fairly attractive and social but like many women really struggle to date and meet men so when people say I will meet someone else and have a baby like it’s so easy….it doesn’t make me feel better! I guess that’s why I stayed with 26262627 red flags!

You really don't want to be tied to this man by having a child with him. Maybe he'll have nothing to do with either of you or maybe he will make both your lives miserable. This is not a good situation to bring a child into. Yes, it's hard. That doesn't mean it's not the right decision.

3wouldbegood · Today 14:14

You should certainly dump that awful man.

I'd suggest specialist counselling IRL to help you with the decision around your pregnancy.

AnneLovesGilbert · Today 14:14

Honestly not sure what to say. You intentionally got pregnant by a man whose children you’d never met after 2 years who you admit you knew was a complete wrong’un albeit he’s actually worse than you’d expected. You knew he was a useless specimen, you’ve now found out he’s extremely terrifyingly violent and you’re still considering having a baby with him.

WhatNextImScared · Today 14:14

Step one: end the relationship.
Step two: work out whether you would like to take this chance at motherhood, with him out of the picture

Iris2020 · Today 14:14

I am sorry you’re in this position.
The only positive is that he left you while pregnant rather than abusing your child.

Do you have a mum or sister you can speak with? You need something your corner who loves you and will be able to best advise you based on their knowledge of you and your circumstances.
Don't carry this alone, you need at least one real life friend to tell.

parietal · Today 14:15

So sorry you are dealing with this.

dump the bloke - block him on everything because you know he is a liar and cruel to children.

then have a good think about the pregnancy. this is not your last chance to get pregnant - plenty of people meet a good partner and have a baby in their late 30s or 40s. And keeping this baby will tie you to an abusive man for 18 years.

Abortion is the sensible option here, but take a few days to think and have counselling.

Thank you. I appreciate this. My mother has told me I can do it but she had 4 kids with her husband of 36 years who never left her side. Her father abandoned her and it’s made her the angriest most bitter person I know.

Well the relationship is over.

contact Marie Stopes internatuonal or BPAS and ask for a counselling appointment so you can get your head around your options.

Meanwhile look after your body and mind. don't do anything silly.

if you could choose, would you like a child one day?

No one is supporting me. They pretend to but get bored after twenty minutes and rush off the phone. My cousin said hed come to see me and never turned up. Let’s say it’s made this much harder. The sad thing is, had my mum
just come over and cuddled me, packed a bag and said she’d stay for as long as she had to, I would have taken the pills. It’s like despite me not wanting a child with him, I’m a very lonely person and this pregnancy is keeping me company? Does that make sense!?!? I’m aware I need help and an innocent life does NOT deserve any of this.

But this is a good point. Even if you don’t put him on the birth certificate he could try to force himself into your lives.

WestwardHo1 · Today 14:19

In your position I would have a termination and never ever see this man again.

NaturalFalls · Today 14:19

I think you should terminate the pregnancy because no child deserves a father like him. You may have to deal with him for years if he does decide he wants to see your child. You will be forever afraid that he’ll harm your child and your child may be hurt. It’s just a bad situation that you can stop, so I would.

Honestly I would personally abort, especially as the pregnancy is at such an early stage. You don't want to be tied to this man for life and it sounds as though he has sociopathic traits. He is physically and psychologically abusive and he is almost certainly going to have a terrible influence on your child and there will be a high chance that the child will be abused by him if he is allowed to see them. There is a chance that some sort of contact will be permitted if he is willing. No idea where you stand on the nature/nurture debate, personally I think both can attribute to psychopathy, but I wouldn't want any of his traits being passed onto to my children. It is better to have no children than be tied down to this abusive monster for the rest of your life.

That's not the baby's fault though.

NattyEagle · Today 14:22

Hello everyone. I’m all over the place but I have abortion pills at home - I just can’t take them!

I paid for a private clinic the day after he gave me the ultimatum. I also had a scan at the abortion clinic because at this point I had not spoken to his ex! I was delusional and thiught he was just freaking out! There was no heartbeat but a saw the tinnnnnnnyyyyy Little thing in my uterine cavity. I won’t lie and say I burst into tears overwhelmed with love and connection but it’s made this harder for sure.

You need to get some help with this decision IRL. Can you book in to see a community midwife? I think your family might mix you up even more

Catza · Today 14:26

In your situation I would (and did!) abort. If nothing else, you would avoid being forever tied to this man.
No it's not easy to meet someone decent but that doesn't mean you should let the unknown future impact what, feels to me, is the right decision. You don't want to be a single parent, as you say, you struggle to feel positively about the child knowing who the father is. You haven't said anything which would convince me you in any way want this pregnancy. Your only reasoning for keeping it is fear of what might or might not happen in the future. Which is a rubbish reason because that's the part we cannot predict or control.
