Where do you think Jewish people come from?

Antisemitism is at full volume at the moment and I caveat this post with saying that I have absolutely no wish to make Jewish MNers feel uncomfortable but as an an atheist with no connection to Israel this really makes my blood boil.

I see so many SM posts about the Jews having 'colonized' Israel and Judea & Samaria, not having any claim to the land, not being indigenous and of course being 'Europeans settlers'.

They can't answer where they actually come from though so I thought anyone on here who shares their views might be able to give an answer and how they came to that conclusion.

I understand that Jews are an ethnicity with Judaism as their religion. Being Jewish is not a religion. Jews are still today spread out all over the world with the majority living in Israel and the US.

This has come into focus since the UK Government sanctions on Jewish businesses in Judea & Samaria recently with Jewish communities living there classed as 'illegal settlers'.

It's almost as if Jews and Judea have no connection at all.

So AIBU to ask where the Jews originated from if not from there?

I don't feel this belongs on the CITME board as although the war in Gaza has amplified beliefs, this not directly about that.

Totally agree with Bloodysquirellls. I would hope that Jews born and resident in Europe consider themselves Europeans, not Israeli.

Why would Jews who have never been to or lived in Israel consider themselves Israeli?

Is that why there have been antisemitism and attacks on Jews since the Oct 7th genocide do you think? Because people who want to harm Israelis, and the antisemites, get confused like you just did?

Do you hope all immigrants to Europe consider themselves Europeans because I think you might be disappointed?

She means that people using the G word about Gaza don't have the first clue what they're talking about, and that cynically misrepresenting a conflict that is so obviously a war by every metric for political reasons* is a huge insult to actual victims of genocide. And a disgusting lie to troll Jews (actual victims of genocide).

*There is a currently a global campaign led by jihadis and propped up by useful idiots of the Left to de-legitimise the State of Israel as a prelude to it's ilimanation, so lying about about Israel committing the crime of crimes helps them achieve this goal.

Also, your username - very apt.

Gosh, didn’t realise the robot from Oz was so relevant.
Also had no idea that in all my years of research, I was just looking at jihadist sponsored AI. Silly me.

Jews have always been in Israel, Judea & Samaria.

Do you regard migrants who move to the UK, especially with no connection to here, as 'stealing land'?

The 'stealing houses' is terrorist propaganda btw.

Can you evidence that a house was ever 'stolen' from a Palestinian?

Sorry but the stealing houses is not terrorist propaganda.
Israel has seized around 55000 buildings since 1967.

One example is the The Basbous family* *homes in the Batn al-Hawa neighborhood of Silwan, East Jerusalem, were forcibly evicted and seized by Israeli authorities and settler organizations in early 2026.

There are hundreds of more cases like this.

Totally agree with Bloodysquirellls. I would hope that Jews born and resident in Europe consider themselves Europeans, not Israeli.

From what I’ve read, this is exactly how the vast majority of German Jews felt during the Weimar Republic - they were completely integrated into the mainstream society and considered themselves European.
We all know how much their 'European' identity protected them when the tide turned.

Do some research.

I asked for your opinion.

If you didn't want to give it why bother to respond?

Perhaps they would if an Austrian psychopath hadn’t murdered 6 million of them.

I wonder why Austria/Germany isnt held to account for the holocaust? Maybe some reparations are due?

Germany has paid Israel around 85 Billion Euros in reparations.

And the other problem is that their neighbours keep trying to kill them. It’s not exactly a simple situation.

Yes. That is indeed a big problem. But that's not what the OP was about.

ITMA2000 · 23/09/2026 22:21

I think it odd that Jews want to live in Palestine, but don't recognise that Palestinians live there. Where do they think Palestinians should live? (The clue is in the name).

heresiarch · 23/09/2026 22:23

BlessedIsTheFruit · 23/09/2026 22:10

The Palestinians are African too?

Edited

Everyone's true ancestral homeland is Africa. That's where homo sapiens evolved. Did you not know that?

FriendlyMedusa · 23/09/2026 22:23

I'm struggling to understand the point of this thread.

In the wild, most people don't actually know about Jews or even claim to. My experience as a British-born Jew is that a dreadful conflict has made a lot of people "overnight experts".

Silverbirchleaf · 23/09/2026 22:23

Interesting thread. only read half of it so far, but placemarking to come back when I’m not so tired.

As one of the Jewish MNers I'm more than a little horrified by this thread and don't even know where to begin with watching non-Jews debate my existence.

Same.

It’s bizarre isn’t it?

I come from that general area (but not Israel or Gaza specifically) and my family are Muslim though I am an atheist.

it seems to me indisputable that Jews originate from that land. The Al Aqsa mosque is built on top of the temple of Solomon - how on earth can Jews returning to their ancestral land (having survived an actual genocide) possibly be regarded as colonisers?

how on earth can Jews returning to their ancestral land (having survived an actual genocide) possibly be regarded as colonisers?

DARVO

The actual colonisers are DENYing what they've done; they're ATTACKing the people seeking to claim their ancestral lands; and they've REVERSED the VICTIM and OFFENDER so that the colonisers are the victims defending thier land and the people whose land is was originally have become the colonisers stealing land.

So they were tenants who decided they were entitled to ownership after the Jews were killed/kicked out in 1948 war and after years of legal battles, which they lost to the owner who proved ownership from 1881, they are now crying victim?

As I said terrorist propaganda.

That does not make someone immune to tribalism, which was the issue referenced. It just means the "tribe" isn't based on religion or nationality. People are tribal about everything from politics to TV shows to football to fandoms.

100%. People can even feel superior about being atheists - imagine, eh, @Eyesopenwideawake ?!

No it didn't. That figure is for compensation to all survivors of Nazi persecution. Only a small amount of that (less than €2bn) went to Israel and that was to support the large number of survivors that Israel was supporting.

Where does anyone come from

Britain is a mish mash of many ethnicities

PP has rightly pointed out that it seems we all originally descended from Africa.

Ancient Egyptians were long in all the regions nearby many many thousands of years ago too.

Edited to add, this should begin….I agree.

I’m Jewish and regard myself as European and nothing done to dispossess and murder hundreds of thousands since 1948 is done in the name of my heritage.

Zionism is a political movement not Judaism ..it is a supremacist and apartheid belief system. Used by the West to have a stake, political interference in oil resource rich parts of the world. See Sudan for similar resource wars.

There is a growing resistance movement in Israel.

No distraction from state sanction executions in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon and beyond, mass detention without trial and genocide OP

Philosophical discussions about ancient origins are an insult to the thousands of child amputees suffering now

No other country created from the ashes of various conflicts has to justify its existence. Israel has as much right to exist as every other country. If Israel has no right to exist, then presumably Germany should also still encompass half the Baltic, Prussia and Ukraine, which it lost as a result of losing a war it started? Nobody thinks that. I can hope the terrible israeli government is voted out, without ever questioning the existence of Israel. In much the same way that I think the AFD ist a tragedy for Germany without therefore hoping Germany would somehow vanish.

I really wish we could move beyond a polarised discussion of who really is entitled to that land versus you can't just kick people out of their homes. It gets us precisely nowhere.

Look, both Jews and the people we now call Palestians have lived in the area for aeons. Communities ebbed and flowed, people passed through, some stayed. The land passed through the hands of various colonisers. In the early 20th century more and more Jews arrived, fleeing pogroms, getting their children to safety as any of us would. As you would expect, this wave of immigration was met with some resentment and resistance.

After Hitler came to power, the trickle became a flood, with many more Jews desperate to get to Israel, Britain or the US - but not being allowed in. At the end of the war the pressure to find a home for European Jews became intense; those Jews who tried to return to their European homes found nothing left, and sometimes experienced further pogroms. The last displaced persons camps in Europe didnt shut till the early 50s; they were stuffed with European Jews.

Meanwhile the British were being bombarded by Jewish terrorists in Israel, and Britain was fed up. So it did what it (and the other Allied powers) were doing all over the world and drew lines on a map. Think Israel was unique in having its populations suddenly find themselves on the wrong side of an arbitrary line? Look at India/Pakistan, look at Eastern Europe, look at Africa.

Israel's neighbours instantly attacked it (and drove out their own Jews). Israel drove many Palestinians out of their own homes. It was all ugly, and I think we can all agree it shouldn't have happened in the way it did.

But arguing now about whether Israel has a right to exist seems utterly pointless to me. It does exist. The only way to stop it existing is through genocide.

It is equally pointless to pretend that Palestinians don't also have a valid claim to the land, and of course the human rights to safety, security, homes and means of work.

So yes, it's a mess. But we have to look forward. In both South Africa and Northern Ireland, progress was only possible once it was accepted that whoever lived there first, all inhabitants had the right to live safely. Scared people make bad choices.

Great post

Isn't it perverse that with the consensus that colonisation caused profound damage to the world, and indigenous nations, that one of the most remarkable examples of decolonisation in modern history is condemned

Edited

Cool, maybe the Britons should decolonise England and send all those with Anglo Saxon or Danish or Norman heritage packing? Or maybe they could be imprisoned in Cambridgeshire and bombed?

Oh sod off OP!
This is a parenting forum, not a place for Jew-Bashing!!

BlessedIsTheFruit · 23/09/2026 22:32

This thread was not supposed to be about the war in Gaza, as another outlet for antisemites to spout terrorist propaganda, so can we keep on topic? Any excuse!

My OP was pretty clear.

I'm off for a bath now anyway, not sure if I'll be back tonight so may come back tomorrow.

Who was in that area before jews? Humans have been around for 300,000 years...pretty sure there were people in that area called 'Palestine' well before judaism was founded, circa 1300 BCE...unless they all converted...which i dont think is the case...
