I really liked her music and she seemed like a nice person: her Imagination Library came to my borough recently. I was very sad to hear she'd died.
But was very disappointed to read this. The statements she made about trans people deserving respect, no issue with those.
But minimising the reasonable concerns women have about being forced to let men in their toilets was wrong.
I'm not saying she should have spoken out for GC issues. It might have been best just not to comment.
Parton had connections with drag queens and I wonder if that's the lens she saw transwomen through : not an excuse but might partially explain.

That’s not true. There are many examples of girls and women being exposed to a penis against their consent in what should be female only spaces.

The gym I use has communal changing rooms and glass doors on the showers.

She funded one of the Covid jabs- I can't blame her for speaking out on that. I don't think she said everyone had to have them, and vaccines until recently weren't a hugely partisan political issue.

She supported gay rights , so I wonder if she just saw trans as an extension of that, including shared toilets etc I agree her kindness made her vulnerable on this issue, probably.

I can well believe she knew a lot of gender non-conforming people and wanted to extend kindness to them. I think many people have been on a journey of understanding here and the true implications of opening women's spaces up to men (no matter how they identify) is not always immediately apparent to people.

However now that we understand the issue more, I would take a dim view of anyone who is actively seeking to dismantle women's sex based rights.

She stood for what she believed. What is the point if you criticizing now? You want her to change her mind???

Nothing you've linked establish the claims you're making from it. You're also comparing absolute prison numbers rather than rates, so it doesn't show that trans women are “several times more likely” than other men to have been convicted of sexual offences and neither source provides any data whatsoever on trans women being more likely to murder than be murdered. Neither source contains homicide data, so that claim is completely unsupported by the links you've provide and certainly neither provides evidence for your claim that these patterns are repeated globally. You're extrapolating far beyond what the data actually shows.

So your absolute claims were misinformation, perhaps you could consider making a claim in future that's actually in line with the data you have? Like, did youbr and somewhere else this was a fact and a pattern repeated globally and just regurgitate it? Did you just make it up? Really hard to know how you can't be consciously spreading misinformation when you are clearly claiming things you haven't looked into.

I didn’t read it as she supported biological males in women’s toilets, I read it as she’d been asked a question and gave a brush off answer as to not offend or get into it with the interviewer.

Why not just have individual cublicles, each with a basin and sanpro bin, that can be used by either sex and are accessed via a corridor that is used by everyone?

I haven't read the book in a while, but if this is a reference to A Handmaids Tale, it's not even the right character to use as an insult.

Handmaids are women who are kidnapped and forcefully impregnated against their wills.
