To think less of those who slept with a lot of people

AIBUISJUSTASBADASAITA · Today 17:43

I don’t actually care how many people someone slept with, but if they choose to tell me, I think less of them

This could be at least partially caused by someone once telling me slept with someone from each continent and he is would now like to hit his next target of sleeping with someone pregnant

That’s to say that, if I really think about it, I don’t feel most upstanding members of society engage in sleeping with hundreds of people and counting, for various reasons

That’s because for most regular people, once you’ve encountered the time and effort it takes to, for example, build and progress a career / raise a family / build a business / travel / excel at a hobby / maintain friendships and family relationships / find lasting connections and fall in love / get a degree etc etc, there’s not that much time left to sleep with an insane number of people

I also get squeamish about diseases thinking of the sort of sex lives those who manage to sleep with hundreds lead

Finally, I’ve met a few women who clearly thought the number of people they slept with validated them in some way and felt it was worth mentioning. It was volunteered in a way as if to say “I am so attractive / cool / outgoing / sexual” that I’ve slept with such a high number of people. Yeah, not the brag you think it is…

AIBU, if you’re being completely honest?

I think it’s just plain bizarre giving a number regardless of if it’s low or high for men and for women because it is none of my business. People can put their genitals wherever they like as long as where their genitals ends up consents.

ImogenBrocklehurst · Today 19:40

What’s a lot, OP? And in what way does it affect you?

Anything over 50 is gruesome

So, 49 is fine, 51 is not?!

yep. In my opinion, anyway

In the same way that 3 is the acceptable number of divorces. If you get married again after. Being divorced 3 times, my eyebrow would be rising

autumnwitch4 · Today 19:42

I definitely think less of men who brag about their sexual exploits. I’ve not come across women doing this but it’s more the bragging than the number itself that would make me think less of someone.

oh! How strange.

For example:

Your beloved husband announces he has been having an affair. Then you find out the affair partner is a swinger who has shagged 100 men. I think most people would be like ewwwww you are well rid, what a vile woman etc. And I can just imagine the mumsnet posts!

AIBU - my husband left me for a swinger who has shagged 100 men. AIBU to think she is disgusting and he has very poor taste?

1000 replies saying URGH how grim, not 'oh how nice for her. Hope she had a good time 🤣

Even if someone said her husband cheated on her with a virgin, I don't think many posters would be saying "hope she had a good time" Hmm
I'm sure there would be some people responding as you suggest, but that doesn't mean everyone who disagrees with you is pretending. We might just have a different opinion to you!

EmeraldShamrock000 · Today 19:44

It is not my business or my body. The choices and actions other people make don’t impact me unless it was a potential partner, then I’d have to have a think about it.

AIBUISJUSTASBADASAITA · Today 19:44

LilacBalloons · Today 17:54

I don't care how many people anyone has slept with and I don't think sleeping with lots of people says anything about your self esteem. I also don't care who you're judgmental of or why, what a tedious little subject.

but you do care to comment? Must’ve touched a nerve

No I'm sure they wouldn't be supporting the woman regardless.

But it is absolutely a sign that the woman is a wrongun, and people would use it as an reason why the woman is grim!

AIBUISJUSTASBADASAITA · Today 19:47

Simonjt · Today 17:48

The number of people someone has had sex with has absolutely no bearing on who they are as a person.

It kind of does if you think about it. In the same way if someone has worked very smart and managed to make a lot of money or if someone boycotts palm oil or if someone prefers to work night shifts.

Yes, some people would call the woman "grim" and a "wrongun" for her prior sex life. I know that some people are misogynistic.

But I'm still not sure why you can't believe that some posters genuinely have different opinions to you.

marlboro · Today 19:49

yes yabvu what’s it to you? Lots of people experiment/ have fun when they are younger and then settle down when they get older. And even if they don’t as others have said how does that impact you?

Exaclty.
Someone who has slept with 2 people and been married for 50 years is a very different type of person to someone who has slept with 500 people and used sex workers and been dogging. Those 2 people will be quite different

Shot in the dark here but I think maybe that might be more to do with the affair bit than anything else. Hurt and angry people lash out.

Its a strange thing to do to tell people that they dont really believe what theyve told you they believe because you've decided you know better.

In a way I agree. I think people who slept with more partners tend to be more interesting (not always of course)

yes in terms of sexual experience. Not much else 😂😂

Yesitsweird · Today 19:51

I'm calling men who have slept with 100 people grim and wrongens and disgusting too.
I'm not saying it just about women. It's the behaviour I judge, not the gender.

Would you be happy to get with a man who had slept with 200 people and was a swinger?

AIBUISJUSTASBADASAITA · Today 19:51

Backedoffhackedoff · Today 17:51

I don’t understand why you would care or judge

you make it sound like you have a little level in your head of “good” and “bad” people and categorise them according to the different information you learn about them, with them going up or down the levels of your approval depending on what you learn.

whats the point? What difference does it make if you “think” less of someone?

What difference would it make if you thought a lot of someone? What difference would it make if you thought someone was very interesting to talk to or awful at singing or draining to be around? The answer is self-explanatory really…

Why is having sex a bad thing? If someone enjoys sex then why is it something to be judged……and why do you then feel superior?

This thread is not about the enjoyment of sex and neither is it about feeling superior or inferior as against someone’s level of enjoyment of sex, but thanks for commenting😄

So yet more things that have absolutely no bearing on who someone is as a person.

foursquares · Today 19:55

Completely agree. I think the amount of sexual partners has had, particularly if they brag about it, tell you alot about their inate character. Who wants to ride the village bike anyway?!

TremendousFlatulence · Today 19:56

Being weird is one thing OP. Being weird and try-hard snappy is quite another.

Go have a jodrell rather than trying to get your fizz here ffs.

AIBUISJUSTASBADASAITA · Today 19:56

ToKittyornottoKitty · Today 17:58

Yeah you sound very judgemental. I’d rather be friends with someone who’s slept with all load of people (which has zero impact on me) than someone like you.

It’s good I’m not asking to be your friend then, as I can’t stand people who lack the ability of think critically or be able to appreciate someone’s point of view even if it’s different from theirs.

OP posts:
marlboro · Today 19:57

I personally always feel sorry for people who are a bit sexually inexperienced. Like you’ve slept with 2 people in your life. You could be having absolutely mediocre sex and have no idea about what good sex is. Maybe that’s why you’re so judgemental op?
