What has JK Rowling said or done that’s transphobic

Ducketta · Today 13:26

Another thread has said that they don’t want their thread to be derailed. Y HK Rowling and morals, so I’ll start one. Can anyone please tell me what JK Rowling has ever said or done that’s transphobic? Please be specific and outline how she has been offensive to trans people and not just been protective women and girls hard fought right to separate single sex spaces.

I cannot find anything whatsoever that she has done wrong. Nothing. Nada. And yet this JK Rowling = queen of transphobia myth persists. And it’s bloody tiresome.

Have you tried going through the many many threads on this?

thesilliestgoose · Today 13:33

Are you incapable of using the search function or do you just demand all of your information be spoon fed so you don’t have to bother your arse forming your own opinion.

JacknDiane · Today 13:33

I'll get the popcorn...

MoistVonL · Today 13:35

Absolutely nothing.

You're welcome.

Ifeeltheneedtheneedforcoffee · Today 13:36

There is a search function that will bring up lots of threads about this

Lacksie · Today 13:37

Rowling holds gender-critical beliefs under which sex is immutable and trans women remain male, campaigns to ensure that law and institutions treat sex rather than gender identity as decisive in all contexts, and repeatedly has used language that portrays trans female identity as false, performative or male intrusion. People who define transphobia as including systematic invalidation or denigration of transgender identities therefore have substantial direct evidence for calling her transphobic.

Nothing. She's not transphobic she simply supports women's rights. Everyone knows that.

JeanSimmons · Today 13:39

Nothing at all. Annoyingly, this issue is close to my family so I have to bite my tounge. I love JK and will be watching the new series with avidity. I'm so sick of the pathetic 'be kind' brigade.

BIossomtoes · Today 13:40

Have another 🍪 And go and peruse the feminism threads.

Those same people also define “woman” to include men, so I’ll take their definitions with a massive punch of salt.

She had the audacity to stand up for women’s rights, OP and some people don’t like that.

I think the difficulty with combing through the gazillions of threads where it’s claimed the awful transphobic things she says are discussed that actually, it’s either -

a) posters losing their shit that she says things that dare stand up for/centre biological women and girls or,

b) quotes taken from an interview with an another person who thinks JKR is transphobic and the apparent proof of this is some cherry picked words from her essay deliberately taken out of context.

Therefore OP would struggle to find any thing JKR has said which is indeed transphobic.

Fck all

Thechickenhasmypillow · Today 13:48

She wrote a well thought out essay, that was all.
The fiend!

Noodledog · Today 13:49

JK Rowling has said nothing transphobic. She has been a victim of a vicious hate campaign orchestrated by abusive, misogynistic bigots.

Whatafustercluck · Today 13:51

I don't follow everything she says/ has said but I did read her essay on the subject of neurodivergent pubescent girls' experiences of puberty and how that may impact how they feel about their bodies/ lead to body dysmorphia. She quoted evidence of considerable late stage regret from those who had transitioned during puberty. It was an interesting read and healthy to ask questions. I didn't view it as transphobic.

She has persistently fought against the 'trans women are women' mantra, and campaigned for women only spaces accordingly, which many trans activists view as ideologically transphobic.

This exactly. There are no examples of her being transphobic.

The belief that someone is born in the wrong body is just that - a belief. There’s no scientific backing to it. I don’t believe in gender identity just like I don’t believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church. It’s doesn’t mean I’m ‘Catholic Church-phobic’. There’s no crime in me saying I think the Catholic Church teachings are nonsense is there? Why the drama about someone thinking gender identity is made up nonsense?

She hasn’t said or done anything transphobic .
She has spoken out to protect the safety and hard won rights of biological women.
I think everyone knows this really. It’s only the people who dont care about women’s safety who pretend she is transphobic.

MadMazie · Today 13:55

If you actually wanted the answer to this question wouldn't it be better to go on Reddit and directly ask someone who has accused her of transphobia?

Asking on Mumsnet will get you one worldview. If you genuinely want to hear the other view then go to where people with that view post.

I suspect that rather than wanting to hear why some people think she is transphobic you wanted lots of people who have the same view as you to post so you can feel vindicated.

I guess you got what you wanted looking at previous posts.

Why are you asking if you’ve already decided there’s no evidence? Just fancied arguing with strangers on a Tuesday afternoon? Will you be back later to ask why people think Tommy Robinson is racist when he’s just pro-white? 🙄

Firstbornunicorn · Today 13:57

Well she denies their existence on a regular basis.

backformoreofthesame · Today 13:58

Ok absence of evidence isn’t the same as evidence of absence but I also would love to see some evidence

Ducketta · Today 13:59

Because my son’s girlfriend is so vehemently anti JKR and I don’t get it. What am I missing? I can’t find any examples of anything she’s said or don’t that are wrong, and I want to check before I ask her about it, which I’m going to do cause she is pissing me off so much. She seems to ignorant.

Nothing. It’s all smoke and mirrors.

A super successful woman advocating for women is always going to piss men people off.
