Rise of far right

1000 replies

Sillyme1 · Today 07:00

Any one else worried about the rise of the far right in Europe. Churchill once said ‘those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it’. Obviously social conditions are different from the 1930s, but there are similarities such as using immigrants as scapegoats (not Jews this time). Things can so easily escalate and I admit to being worried

It’s not just the far right that’s rising — the right in general is. I’ve never known so many people describing themselves as centre-right. I suspect a lot of them would probably have called themselves Conservative once, before the party made itself virtually unelectable.

Politics is changing, and frankly, it’s right that it does. We’re not living in the post-WW2 world anymore, so why would we expect the political priorities of 80 years ago to still be the right ones for today?

When most of Europe is expressing ‘right’ leaning sentiments, we are all either far right or something have gone very wrong.

The left are panicking, that is why they’re on MN and social media working overtime for their masters.

You do realise there are plenty of right-wing people, including well known journalists who are also gay don’t you?

Yet part of the very definition of being right winged are the removal of the rights of gay people.

And prominent right leaning politicians but that poster knows what it’s doing…

OK, so if the person has a case for assault why does she not go to the Police as they have asked ?

She wants to protect her anonymity. Which isn't surprising given she may fear reprisals from Reform supporters. However according to Climate Resistance she is considering it.
And she doesn't need to 'have a case for assault' it's not a private claim. She is being urged by the police to come forward and report the crime we have all seen committed against her.

That tells you everything you need to know about these men.

They hate women.

Hilarious. It doesn't tell you that at all.

To you however there can only be one motive for a group of men who are organising going into a high risk potentially dangerous situation where the police might start battering them with riot batons and shields restricting this to men only, other than they hate women.

Because she has worked since she left school and paid her taxes. Because she privately rents she cannot afford to save a deposit for a mortgage so why shouldn't she get some benefit. Not long ago our council had a strict rule you must have local connections to get a council house not anymore. You keep believing it's fair that if she arrived on a dinghy she would be sorted.

Yeah and the people who need these houses have lived in wartorn countries with famine and disease, their lives have been infinitely more troubled than your daughter growing up in a peaceful western nation. She can wait her turn.

Im really sorry but what you say about Jewish people completely misses the point about the scapegoating of minority groups / immigrants. It is a different group this time but the rhetoric is the same

The rhetoric is not the same. Go back in time and tell us what was happening to Jews then is now happening to Muslims.

It’s funny (actually it’s not it’s bloody scary) that you don’t even know what you’re supporting.

I bet you all chose to vote for Brexit too and increase non-EU immigration

Most of the homophobes outted were affiliated with the Labour Party but not a peep.

Maybe because I have to earn a living and don't have time to watch TV all day.

Yes, so do I but you have been quite prolific on this thread and you know about the woman being treated violently at the conference so how would you not know what Jenrick said? A momentary glance at the Metro would tell you?

AnonyMumAuDHD · Today 19:15

There were no/few women at the protest because of the tactic being use - intimidation - not because women are not part of that particular movement. I think many people attribute US far right, neo-Christian misogyny with all right of centre parties and movements in Europe. The Tories are right wing, though not far right, and are definitely NOT about female oppression.

What makes your daughter any more important just because she was lucky enough to be born here and not a refugee fleeing war and opression?

That’s a moot point because where you’re born and or where your parents are born does dictate citizenship, otherwise where do you draw the line. Yes we’re lucky to be born here but that’s the same for the hundreds of millions of other western countries. People in Australia have privileges that I can’t have and that’s ok because I understand their people should be prioritised. Having an open border whereby anyone can live anywhere would cause utter carnage so lines have to be drawn so it’s bonkers to suggest that a countries own citizens shouldn’t be prioritised or listened to.

FYI - I voted to remain, as did Cameron and many Tory party members.

You are clearly embarrassing yourself and moving the goal posts because you’re unable to debate the topic at hand.

Enjoy your left wing homophobic filled protests.

Well they defend allowing men into women’s safe spaces which have gone on to commit heinous acts against women and children, so we know they’re on the side of the depraved and sick.
