AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

To be honest, I think it's very unlikely that the British government will publish these stats. They want to keep us in the dark.

Not everything is a conspiracy theory.

It’s an appeal by the MoJ against a ruling of the Information Commissioner’s Office that the government must publish criminal conviction data broken down by nationality. I haven’t seen anything limiting it to sex crime data. The appeal seems to be on the basis of cost and complexity, whereas the IOC accepted it would be both costly and complex but ruled that those are not sufficient reasons.

So it’s going to be assessed still? And Labour might be ruled against and have to publish

Which is awful and we need to fight for the rights of those women too.

But this is the UK where rape is encouraged to be reported.

This country is not perfect and we’ll unfortunately probably always have violence against women.
Our systems like the police force have deep routed misogyny.

Just look at the husband who drugged his wife and how many men raped her whilst she was sleeping - these were all ‘normal’ men and non immigrants.

But the difference is, in this country it is a crime and women can usually get some sort of justice.

You need to sort out the algorithm on your social media because that is responsible for brainwashing people.

Yes that's true but we have a two tier justice system here and many women do not understand their rights because they believe other things are more important and we are hands off when it comes to different culture..

I read an awful story years ago in the times of a young girl who had escaped somerhng awful forced marriage or fgm or sexual abuse and she ran away and a "community leader " spoke out and took her back.

How awful is that ???
We allow forced marriages and all sorts.

We are not able to combat this and so there are millions of women in the UK living under different laws that are not UK laws.

Read a few reports of these men committing crimes all over Europe and then getting caught in UK for a crime and these other crimes come out of the woodwork. Does this mean we are the end of the line and the worst of the worst are pitching up at 40 saying they are 16! The other tribe that seems to turn up on X & fb daily are the ones who have a visa to study but decide whilst away from their rather strict culture decide to groom 14 year old girls on WhatsApp. We not only need statistics on these creeps but feedback on outcomes then we know they have been well and truly deported on release and if not why not! And who will do something about this and their feckin family life is more important than our daughters!

You think that preventing people from hearing true facts prevents racist behaviour

Why not, then, ask for data re sex crimes committed by ALL people? Not just migrants. What is the agenda here, do you think? Why does the OP (and others) not seem bothered by the lack of that data?

Sure, I also think that data should be released!

I'm just really unpersuaded there's a group of people saying "man, I'd just love to do some racist assaults, but I really need the official stats before I start".

poetryandwine · Today 21:35

@poetryandwine

yes, young poor and brutalised men are more likely to commit crimes, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that certain demographics are more of a risk to women and society generally.

The men of greatest risk to any of us statistically, by far, are the men we know.

You can read the original OP, there is a link there to an article about the government's legal action to prevent this data being released.

I'm more interested in hearing your take.

It was recently reported that a very mentally unwell Sundanese man was rejected for alsyum in France and yet managed to get here via the boats and ended up attacking a woman 30 times with a broken bottle.
Allowing this style of immigration we just can't vet people

Agrumpyknitter · Today 21:38

I would just point to what the rape crisis centres said that people need to stop politicising sexual violence against women. We are having a 2 tier system. Where rapes against women committed by British men are seemingly getting none of this attention and all of it going to migrants. They’re both wrong and both need to be tackled. But because the men are British nothing gets done.

The vast majority of women who go to UK Rape crisis centres are being attacked by people they know, men they are in a relationship with. It’s practically legal for rape to occur in this country just look at the pathetic low conviction rates. And even when there is evidence as in the case of those poor girls raped and filmed by those teenage boys the system is rigged in the boys favour.

ClarkeandNewman · Today 21:39

Because when we go to the ballot box one of the issues is immigration. People should be properly informed of all if the facts. What has the government got to hide? If immigrants commit no more crime that UK citizens that would shut the racists up. And if they commit 3 x the crime we ought to be told so we can decide whether we want to back parties by their attitude to addressing this.

I’d have thought this was obvious!

Edited

I think you should pay more attention to how I phrased my first question.

I'm just really unpersuaded there's a group of people saying "man, I'd just love to do some racist assaults, but I really need the official stats before I start".

So do you think the stats will show immigrants commit fewer crimes? Then great, publish the figures and shut them up? Would this not be the best way to close down the argument for good?

5MinuteArgument · Today 21:41

ThatBreezyScroller · Today 21:29

No it isn’t racist to acknowledge certain things but things that happen in other countries aren’t representative of what’s happening in our country.

I am the first to call out the crimes committed in places like India.
But we do not have the same problems here.

We might still be at risk of violence, we might not be believed by police etc but we wouldn’t be punished for going to the police.

90% of SA and rapes are committed by someone the victim knows.

So when we’re talking about immigrants, it’s going to be the women they know (likely also immigrants) who are more at risk.

People keep saying it’s immigrants that are more responsible for sexual crimes but that is not true when 90% are people you know.

You need to have a look at the stats published by Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

Blooko · Today 21:46

poetryandwine · Today 21:07

PP was advocating pre-emptive deportation, not giving immigrants a chance to commit a crime. NEETS who have no criminal record may have a very thin paper trail. We may know very little about them.

But that's obviously perfectly sensible. Immigrants who may have a criminal record elsewhere are patently different to NEETS who definitely don't have a criminal record, regardless of what other issues they may have.

Immigrants are also different to native-born people, in that we have a choice about whether we have them or not. I don't understand the frequently trotted-out argument that goes along the lines of 'we have bad people here already so we shouldn't care about the additional bad people we might be letting in'.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · Today 21:47

ThatBreezyScroller · Today 21:31

Who are you telling your children to be afraid of?

Everyone knows that children are more at risk around family members and friends.

Nonsense.
Who’s this everyone.
Let me guess you are another one in a safe area with luxury beliefs.

Indeed. We are obliged to deal with our own sex pests. We don’t have to import more (if that’s what the statistics show).

Same. Especially when if there’s a risk women and girls usually bear the brunt.

I’m not sure why Labour are so against the information being known. They might lose and have to share it anyway.

Stop it all ?

PeachOctopus · Today 21:50

Data must be approached objectively, and probed carefully.

On this issue, how would you adjust your thinking for the fact that victims of sex crimes under-report the 85% or more of assailants who are known to them? And are much more likely to be British.

In that case the data will show that and white British men will be wildly over represented by the data per capita.
We want to know what the actual data shows because we have a right to the facts.

@Blooko I agree.

Did anyone see the case about the tube sex offender Simon levy ??

Convicted of several murders and multiple gropings and sex offences in the tube mainly over many years. He was caught and let go many times.

How good are our policing systems ??
Can they cope with more sexual deviants ??

Id say. No.

Are you suggesting we end immigration?

We should definitely not be allowing undocumented men to wander freely around.

Why do we all have passports, undergo biometric fingerprinting, eyeball recognition etc to move between countries, yet men can make their way into this country illegally , then claim asylum - and are miraculously then not illegal and are totally at liberty. It makes no sense .
